  1. The ride for dad is the next weekend..... it would be an awesome way to see a good chunck of the lower island ! http://www.motorcycleridefordad.org/vis/about-us
  2. The MV Coho ( Blackball Ferry http://cohoferry.com/main/ ) is a nice ride on a good day... I often go to Port Angeles and ride there it is just awesome. Prepare your self you need to tie your bike to the ferry so it does not fall over as the ferry rolls on the waves. The Anacortes ferry ( http://www.wsdot.wa.gov/Ferries/Schedule/ScheduleDetail.aspx?tripdate=20100508&departingterm=1&arrivingterm=19&roundtrip=true ) I have never taken but thought we may take it this summer as I think it will be a fantastic sight to see. Give me a shout when in Victoria !
  3. http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/ I get parts from them faster than my local dealers can supply them and usually cheaper even with shipping to Canada they have a great lay out.... I believe my last air filter was $42.00 from them. does anyone have the part number for the K&N filter my local deal could not find a listing for it
  4. took mine apart 2 weeks ago Lots and lots of cleaning to do... get all that crappy old grease off of the spline... every part cleaned.... never got into the "zerts" for greasing. Changed the wheel bearings new rubber... front and rear..... its only money. Got the molly grease from a local auto parts wholesaler...... brand name of "molly slip " a little goes a long way ! Changed rear brake pads... to find that the calipers frozen..... consider that you will be checking and servicing everything before you are done
  5. What is the date code on the tire.... the only E3 tires I could get locally had a date of 13 05. Dunlop said to remove from service after 6 to 7 years of date code no matter the wear.
  6. According to Dunlop the E3 is even better on wet roads due to the new tread pattern. I ordered E3s for my bike but when I got them they were date coded 5 years old. The retailer checked and ALL the the tires the supplier had were dated '05. Dunlop says all motorcycle tires should be removed from service between 6 and 7 years from date code. I ended up with Metzlers and the tread pattern is very close to the E3.
  7. Yamaha motor sports had one in stock for me last spring..... they have been great to deal with. http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com full online pricing and delivery cost.
  8. WOW.... I have never done anything like that before.......
  9. Let me know when you are arriving for the ride!
  10. In our area spring riding starts New Years day... We have had 4 riders killed localy so far this year. Each has been hit by a car that "did not see them". The one exception was a fellow in a stolen car... he made an illeagal left turn on a highway and killed a rider and his lady... then got out of the car and ran away... he was found 36 hrs later. Our local government feels the best way to deal with this is to put all riders into motorcycle riding training with a graduated licencing system. This is one of the letters in our local paper today..... (hoping it works) http://www.timescolonist.com/opinion/letters/Make+drivers+aware+traffic+roads/2715331/story.html I hope your letter helps make your local drivers more aware !!!!!!!!!!!! Watch them.... they are not watching you !
  11. I don't want to jack this post but as we are on the subject of tires and all..... Does anyone know about the "age" of tires. The wife picked up the new rear today... the front is back ordered..... the date code is 1305 on the "NEW" tire...... is that ok?
  12. Good to see so much positive on the E3 tires... My wife is picking up my new pair this afternoon. A little more costly up here in Canada but I think they will make me feel a lot better than the 8 yr old E2s I currently have on my '86
  13. Eh! (I am Canadian after all !)
  14. My '86 Venture has felt kinda unhappy on the road lately.... as most of you know that is not normal for a Venture. I got home from my ride today and put it up on the center stand and with my wife as a helper I gave the wheels a good shaking. It seems that the rear wheel has play in, I assume, the bearings. My question then is..... is there supposed to be some play? How much? The front wheel seems to have none.... should there be? Are wheel bearings still available from Yamaha ? I will have to also assume that at least the right hand bag and I suppose both mufflers will need to be taken off to remove the rear wheel.... is there a tech link on a "how to ...." for the rear wheel some place here I can refer to? I know from reading others calls for help I will get lots so thank you up front. Kevin
  15. I live close enough to the winter Olympics to day trip over if I wanted...... We wish for snow in our prayers before bed every night...... Turn on the TV and watch the 2010 Olympic Games from Vancouver..... RAIN !!!!!!! Sorry but it is bright... full sun and around 14*C (about 60*F) here today.... We did have about 3 hours of snow so far this winter and about 6 days it got to freezing. And NO Mother Nature we are NOT complaining !
  16. Happy Ground Hog Day to all ! I am sorry that those of you in the East and South will continue with poor weather....... according to the Ground Hogs anyway! It is bright and sunny here with about 48*F and you know the bike is coming out for a ride! Enjoy the day all !! Ride safe!!!
  17. Rainx works best I think.... I have used Pledge and it works well. Rainx is advertising now that is is ok to use on plastics... I use it on my windshield and visor.... not my glasses! http://www.jayski.com/schemes/2009/cup/nhms2/1rainx-nhms2-lside.jpg
  18. For the first time in my adult life I do not own a VW. I drove a VW bug when I met my wife had 6 or 7 more bugs ..... only one wife! Sold the 1973 VW van we have had for the last 18 years as the kids grew. I discovered that the north american car makers installed all these fancy things like..... HEAT.... Defrost..... no more scraping the inside of the windows before you can drive....... Thank you GMC. I now have a 2005 GMC Jimmy and loving it. A project VW bug is in the not to distant future I think as the kids are starting to leave home.
  19. I only got 14.... I thought I was better at my US historic facts than that......:95:
  20. The ice and snow falls into a liability issue with children. If your child slips on the ice at school and cracks open their head or breaks an arm then what? Most likely a leagal action will begin. If your school district is like the one I work for there is little to no money or staff to properly keep all school areas clear. The city I live in does not own a snow plow.... some of the out lying areas do. Does 3 -5 inches of snow close schools here? YES. It also closes rec centers cancils almost everything that is non urgent. We may get 2 to 3 days per year where snow is on the ground.... Let the kids enjoy it.... stay home. OOOh and in 1996 when we had 2 feet of snow on the ground and a blizzard hit with an additioan 4 feet on boxing day night.... the military was called to help us. Gotta love our troops ---- at home and over seas!
  21. I am sure glad I live up here in Canada where it is warm and sunny and I was out riding in the sun the last few days........... Not moving south anytime soon!
  22. I have used them also with great results.... they are open late into the evenning deliver what they say and I have had no difficulty with parts crossing into Canada from them.
  23. Thank you Freebird for this inspiring letter.... thanks to you I feel fantastic now. I thought it was tough here with my family on Christmas day but now I know just how lucky we are. Thank you, I hope it gets better from here for you. Kevin
  24. Thanks for the links Monty. I also have a '05 GS500 "for my boys" to ride. Had to tell the wife something before I brought it home...lol
  25. I have used "rainx" and "rain-away" both work well but I am told that they MAY damage the plastic. The other fantastic product is Pledge furniture polish.... I prefer the lemon scented.... use it on my helmet visor also. It rains a lot around here to prove they all work well. Ride safe........... Kevin
