  3. Yes I think Wow sums it up as best possible. All the best to you Ed in restarting life. Thankfully you are well and you have the Ventures to help with the therapy. Thank you for sharing this with us in such a difficult time. Kevin
  4. HELMETS a) Helmet Requirement Canada’s motorcycle helmet laws are easy to understand because they are fairly uniform across all 10 provinces and three territories: all passengers on a motorcycle or motor-assisted bicycle must wear crash helmets at all times securely fastened under the chin. In 2011, a Sikh lost his challenge to the $110 ticket he received for not wearing a helmet while riding his Honda Shadow. Baljinder Badesha claimed the Ontario helmet law under s. 104 (1) of the Highway Traffic Act was “100 per cent” discriminatory under the Human Rights Code, no matter what the safety issues were when riding without a helmet. Justice Takach did not quite see it this way, and dismissed the claim. However, British Columbia and Manitoba DO in fact allow devout Sikh’s to be exempt from their helmet laws. Motorcycle helmets must meet safety standards approved for use as a motorcycle helmet in Canada. Only helmets that meet CSA CAN3-D230-M85 standards may be worn in compliance with Canada’s universal helmet laws. These are roughly equivalent to helmets certified by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for sale in America. There should be a label on the helmet indicating the certification. b) Speakers/Ear Devices In Ontario helmets may be equipped with speakers, or as an alternative, drivers are permitted to wear ear phones underneath their helmets for the purpose of communication only. They may not play music through them. Wireless communication devices may only be used to make, answer or end a cell phone call, or to transmit or receive voice communication on a two-way radio or handheld microphone or portable radio. Using any type of hand-held device for any other purpose is prohibited. In short..... unless you are a devout Sikh you must wear a DOT approved helmet fastened under the chin.
  5. I would use nothing but chlorine. Anything you use is a bit of a pita but chlorine is proven over and over to be the best product. I do liquid injection of chlorine on some of my commercial pools and that is by far the easiest but that costs $$$$$. For home pools I still recommend liquid, buy it a commercial janitorial suply place. 12% is a standard strength and you will learn with time how much effect the doseing takes.
  6. I will be very surprised if that show returns
  7. A posting on face book says Zzyzx has lost everything in a fire today. His family is safe but lost some furry family. Pictures there just make me say Oh my God Thoughts out to Ed and family. I have met Ed and know he is a good person.... why does sh*t like this happen to good people.
  8. is it possible to have this poll re-posted in Kilometers so us Canadians can respond to it also @cowpuc ?
  9. I guess I will pay in cash when mine is due.... I will save the 2Cents anyway
  10. can you please share the Delphi post
  11. I reused them on my first gen..... one leaked one did not
  12. You CAN reuse them but are you keeping the bike or selling it of out of town? it will likely get you to where you gotta go but be prepared to tear it all down again in not too distant future. an old saying comes to mind.... pay me now or pay me more later :2cents: +1 cent........... I am Canadian I don't have pennies so take my 5 cents worth.
  13. Is the fire hydrant alright? Well they are expensive so I hope you don't have to fix that too
  14. Rick you live in Vancouver! It is always raining in Vancouver from September to June and some times July and often August..... you gotta ride.
  15. I have to ask..... Why do you not ride in the rain? If I waited for the roads to be dry I would cut my ride time in half every year, I do live on the Wet Coast. I admit that when it is wet my first choice is the V-Strom not the Venture but I do ride the Venture when it is wet.
  16. I recall my brother showing up on a "loaner" bike one time while his was in the shop. I don't even remember what it was other than shiny. I was only just walking with a cane waiting on knee surgery. I mean how can you not jump on and ride. I was in trouble for a few days over that one.
  17. I just read from our local University that this has been the wettest winter since '04 when they started the weather research up there. I do not feel like it has been real wet as we have had a lot of good weather. I have motorcycled to work every day since December 1st, I did take two weeks off for the Christmas break, we did have frost in those two weeks. Only one day in there did I get to work soaked through my riding gear. It is a grand total of less than 5 miles to work. The University has also said we have been warmer than usual but they have not released the numbers on that. Snow...... we have not seen a measureable snow fall in this city for a number of years.... going to say 4 or 5 at least since last time the roads were white here. OK gotta go out and sweep up the cherry blossoms now
  18. The very best part of this whole thread as I started to read through it.... I had been away riding for a couple days sorry..... was to see that The Puc had hit Like and Thanks to every response here. All the best to you Scott and don't be to much of a pain in the as you heal.
  19. I am thinking of hitting a local marine outlet to see what they have when it comes time for me to update my speakers. Maybe some has some brand names out there though
  20. @bongobobny as a reform smoker I can say.... I wish that would be enough. There is more than just one addiction in place with smokers. Not just the nicotine. There is chemical additives in the tobacco and the paper product as well as the sociological addiction. I smoked for 30 plus years. I knew I needed to quit. I wanted to quit. I needed help though. One day my employer made his staff an offer that was my first crutch.... he offered us $500 to quit. That was a lot of spare change to a guy with a wife, 4 teenagers and a mortgage. I chose to take the gamble and try quitting. I went to my doctor and asked him if there was any help he could prescribe to me. He did two things, gave me a prescription for a product called Zyban and told me to phone him before I lit another cigarette. The Zyban works on the quit smoking. It does have other side effects that may not be everyone's idea of fun. For me, I broke out in hives, was off work two weeks, on meds to clear that up. When I went back to work there was a pack of smokes in my van..... I tossed them in a garbage can. Seven months later I lost my oldest sister to Cancer. She had never had a cigarette in her life. Her late husband who had died a few years earlier of Lung Cancer had smoked heavily. On the day Sister died I wanted a smoke so bad..... then..... I thought...... that would be the LAST thing my sister would want me to do. It has been about 14 years now I think. I was told by someone that if you are counting the days or weeks or months then you have not quit, just taking a break. My hints to help: do it, decide you are doing it and do it. Change as many of your habits as you can. Play solitaire with real cards. Change your radio station in your car. Take a different route to work. Go for a walk, not 5 miles required, walk up the street and say hi to a neighbor, go to the mall and just walk around, instead of a "smoke break" at work go for a walk up the block and back. Do not start eating candies although some sugar free gum is not too bad. Take the money you have saved from smokes and put it in a pickle jar or open a separate bank account, I bought a fish finder for the boat.... always wanted one but could never afford one. E-cigs in my opinion are bad in their own ways. I can sell you Propylene Glycol in 5 gal or 45 gallon drums if you wish but I would not recommend you you smoke it. The habit of smoking is not being broken using the E-cigs. Bite the bullet and Just Do It. I know it is hard but do it. when you are at home and really need a smoke.....go kiss your wife.... assuming she don't smoke. I did it so I know you can. @SilvrT in BC quit smoking aids are free. One thing I feel our current government has done correctly. I hope this helps just one person.... all others are a bonus
  21. I love the set of HH I put on my bikes. Both the Venture and VStrom run them
  22. A plumbing wholesaler I deal with can get pretty busy at times and so the other counter guys will pick up the intercom and call out.....Juan to the counter. After 30 plus years dealing with that place I have never met Juan
  23. Carbon one adapter/stand is the way to go. It is rock solid with the legs on. Definitely more secure than an adapter on a jack alone. Very much worth the cost. Don't chance those cheap knock offs on EBay, there is a time and place for cheap, holding your bike in the air is not it. And yes I own a Carbon one unit.
  24. Ok thanks for the reminder on this. I never record milage other than oil changes. So what are the guide lines here.... can I combine the two bikes or is this just about the RSV? I feel I ride the VStrom more than the Venture but changed the oil 3 or 4 times on the Venture last year and only twice on Venture. Could have been because of Venture West using up an oil change in it's self. So i will record milage tomorrow so I can keep track.
  25. I think that @cowpuc should be travelin and shovelin for all the crap he sends your way fool
