Gone to Starbucks for coffee a few times and taken a day or two.... last week it took two ferries to get me to Starbucks and back. Victoria ride to Nanaimo then to Squamish to Victoria. I have had a couple trips that my wife sent text messages.... are you coming home soon. When I have free time I ride and ride. Ps. don't try Olympia Washington to Seattle with the GPS set to avoid highways if you are on a schedule.... it is a very long detour.

2nd gen kick stand
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to kevin-vic-b.c.'s topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
What a trip around the internet and shops to get the parts. On line order I was told they are back ordered until end of September. Dealer that had told me weeks to get the bolt and bushing had them for me in 7 days. So now I figure an few minutes and change a bolt right.... wrong. Who has changed this bolt and bushing. I found a thread that told me to put quarters between the spring windings to make it easy to re move but what do I have to do to get that blasted bolt out? -
Key on for 2 weeks
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to 2WHEELSFORME's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I did same thing with my Venture, left key on for days. I took the battery out of the bike and put it on a slow charge ( 1 amp not 10) for about 24 hrs and has been fine starting ever since. The only other issue was that it the headlight burnt out the next time I rode the bike. I am sure the two events were related. -
Thank you, Volunteer Fire Rescue members are second to none. One of my best friends has done 25 yrs with one of our local departments as a volunteer. What you do is very special and such a blessing to all those you protect

New tires always make you feel like Superman out on the road. I have had my Avons on my 2nd gen and they have been great. Keep them pumped up just below max as written on the side wall, mine are 2 or 3 pounds under when I am alone. I have about 20,000Km on mine. I am finding the rear tire is getting kind of flat spotted in the center so the high speed handling is not what it could be. Likely next summer I will buy a new rear. I will start a thread and ask what kind I should replace it with just for fun.

rear brakes went soft
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to garyS-NJ's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Only three things I can think of to create soft pedal are, air, leak, over heating. Maybe #4 would be old fluid. with the system delinked I think that leaves the rear system with a very small amount of fluid in total so it would take such a small amount of leakage to cause an issue I think. Just my thoughts -
Headlight Adjuster

I have never heard of such foolishness how could you not reconnect it:whistling: -
I saw you in Castlegar, I ride an 08 650 when not on the Venture. If you try one you will buy one. I think IF I have to go down to one bike and no Venture replacement I would up to a 1000 V-Strom and call it a day. Excellent bikes.

If I am correct you are looking to test the strength of the Coil output by doing this test more than testing the Spark Plug. On old oil burners we used a screwdriver across the terminals to draw the spark from the coil to see it was bright crisp and how far it would pull. I think same idea.

2nd gen kick stand
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to kevin-vic-b.c.'s topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ok, local dealer price was very fair at $35.00 but would have to be ordered in and it could take 3 to 4 weeks to arrive from Ontario. Ok it did not take my son 4 weeks to ride his bicycle to Ontario I don't think. So Parts Shark it is, 5 days shipping for $9.00 USD and about $13.00 USD for the parts. I am ok with spending a couple extra dollars to get the parts but no excuse for weeks of wait time in this Global World. Even Canada Post can have it to me in less than a week. -
Carbon One Lift

@Carbon One I believe they are in the classified section still -
Lori has completed a "skills" level training at our local safety council once but that permit expired so she is booked in to do it again in a couple weeks. I have done their "Experienced Rider Course" twice, once on my first gen then again on the second gen. Recommend everyone do training like that. I would not send Lori on the road with out it.

2nd gen kick stand
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to kevin-vic-b.c.'s topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks, I now know there is a bushing in there. I looked up the parts at Yamaha Sports Plaza out of Oregon but the $14.00 USD worth of parts would be $40.00 USD in shipping so I will see if I can get them here in Canada. But now I know what I have to fix. -
We bought a bike for my wife Lori to start riding on her own. I hope she will catch the bug and go for it. Time will tell. 2002 V-Star 650

I have been having trouble with the kick stand on my 2nd gen. Very difficult at times to move it down mostly but sometimes back up also. I put the bike up on my Carbon1 stand to work on it. It was totally dry at the fitting so some WD-40 added to loosen it up then some Molly grease as best I could everywhere. My question is, at the knuckle with the bolt through it is there supposed to be play or is it supposed to be a snug fit between the bored holes and the bolt. When the stand is down I can get maybe an inch of play up and down on the stand. Is this ok or is it a sign that the bolt and or the bore is worn or wearing out? Thanks much

I was not sure if I should put this into Jokes and Humor forum or not but it is real. Friday morning Lori and I awoke just after 4 am to the sound of scratching coming from the attic. We have had mice in the house in past years but this was more than a mouse and please we hoped it was not a rat but even seemed more. I went outside to find that the air vents to my attic on one side of the house were damaged. Twenty odd years in the house and never before had any issue. So I took an emergency day off work, Up to the attic I went in search of critters. Something had been there for sure as there was a bit of damage to the insulation in one corner. Off to Home Depot for supplies, no use putting fiberglass screen back up there so got some metal screen, then found some 1/4 inch mesh and hey look at this..... metal sheet of "lath" for putting under the stucco. Now that will work. I bought all 3, made a nice metal mesh sandwich, climbed up the ladder took the old frame work out and installed the new steel sandwich. Sitting having dinner and the neighbours son knocking on the door in a total panic, he had been cleaning his car in the driveway when out of the attic on the other end of the house came a Squirrel. The biggest Squirrel ever he says.... yeah right. So after dinner out I go and make some more metal mesh sandwiches and do the other end of the house. Up the ladder the kid next door is yelling look there it is there. Now normally when we see a Squirrel it is a cute fuzzy rodent you could capture with your coffee mug. Ok this one would not fit under a mixing bowl... extremely large sized rodent no fuzzy cute Squirrel. Ok I got the bases covered all four air inlets redone in metal that will keep the critter out! We take the dog for a walk and when we return here is Super Squirrel on the side of my house, he has climbed up the stucco wall and I guess I had left a few rough metal edges sticking out and he had his tail stuck in the mesh. The rodent was about 2 foot long from nose to tail, not what us city folk expect to see from a cute cuddly Squirrel. I guess he was uncomfortable with me getting too close and he ripped his tail out of the wire leaving a few chunks behind. Well I figure he is well p!ssed of and will leave now. Come 4 am Saturday morning guess what.... Super Squirrel has returned. Now he is real p!ssed at us. He is ripping and shredding the wooden frame work of these air grills apart. There is scrap lumber on the ground under them. He runs around the roof in the gutter and stops and looks over the edge at us through the window, the neighbour can see him from his deck going crazy on our roof. Back to Home Depot for more metal "lath" and a couple 1x6 lumber. I ripped some strips and made a frame twice the size of the air vents, from edge to edge on the soffit 3 inch deck screws up into the framework. Ha try that Rodent! Sunday 4 am Super Squirrel returned but did give up easier today, some of my new framework shredded but not so bad as the fence board I used is much harder than the cedar from the original frames. We are going to give him a few days and then invite our youngest son over for dinner if need be. He trained as a sniper in Army Cadets and still has a pellet riffle. We are Canadians we don't have real guns sorry. See what Monday morning brings with Super Squirrel.
