  1. yup the 21st has come and gone.... today is the 22nd on the west coast and so far so good!
  2. The best number is 73! You guys have no idea, my oldest son is a Sheldon, he is an Astro-Physicist. Dang I am not sure even how to spell it! People ask me what that is........ I tell them, Expensive. We have understood little of what he does since he was about 13. In middle school he tossed. His calculator out of his back pack and said it was too slow, I offered to buy him a new one and he said he could do it in his head faster than punching all the buttons. He graduated with what he called "the group of seven" the only seven that started and finished the four year bachelor's degree as a group. Have them over for dinner and you could not understand most of their conversations. Now at 26, as of last week, he is studying the String Theory to get a Masters degree in Physics. Don't even ask me what that is.........
  3. You run a good show Don, thankyou, and. Keep doing what you do.
  4. . . Keep on...... I think we need to petition a good old " Like " button, the thank you is good but we need a like button tooo....... Big Guy?
  5. I hate posting then finding out I was the last one to post.....was it something I said? I killed the thread........ someone.... anyone..... please don't let it happen here too!
  6. As usual the City of Victoria got no snow at all. A few icy patches around. The areas around us got a dusting, Rocket likely had 2 inches up his way. I would love a foot or two to shut this city down for a day or two.
  7. Yes I am going over for Saturday/Sunday. With the V-Strom to play with I will have a new outlook toward the toys. I have ruled out a new Venture or Goldwing so just after the "farkle".
  8. Rick can you give me some info on the LEDs you have there please? I think those would be a great add on to my V-Strom as well. I have LEDs for added tail lighting on the V-Strom so those in white or amber would be great upfront. Oooooh and are you going to the Abbotsford bike show in January?
  9. A very sad thing for everyone every where. Every parent has the feeling their child is as safe as in a school as in their own home. I wish to share this that someone shared on my FB page: TURN OFF THE NEWS....... Morgan Freeman's brilliant take on what happened yesterday : "You want to know why. This may sound cynical, but here's why. It's because of the way the media reports it. Flip on the news and watch how we treat the Batman theater shooter and the Oregon mall shooter like celebrities. Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris are household names, but do you know the name of a single *victim* of Columbine? Disturbed people who would otherwise just off themselves in their basements see the news and want to top it by doing something worse, and going out in a memorable way. Why a grade school? Why children? Because he'll be remembered as a horrible monster, instead of a sad nobody. CNN's article says that if the body count "holds up", this will rank as the second deadliest shooting behind Virginia Tech, as if statistics somehow make one shooting worse than another. Then they post a video interview of third-graders for all the details of what they saw and heard while the shootings were happening. Fox News has plastered the killer's face on all their reports for hours. Any articles or news stories yet that focus on the victims and ignore the killer's identity? None that I've seen yet. Because they don't sell. So congratulations, sensationalist media, you've just lit the fire for someone to top this and knock off a day care center or a maternity ward next. You can help by forgetting you ever read this man's name, and remembering the name of at least one victim. You can help by donating to mental health research instead of pointing to gun control as the problem. You can help by turning off the news."
  10. If you happen to go that way and you should end up in Invermere, find a little restaurant called Mc Toogles; http://www.angusmctoogles.com/index.html Tell Angus that Kevin in Victoria sent you and you will be well cared for.... just don't plan on driving anywhere after ! Ps: Ask Angus to sing hi song Kyla May for for you!
  11. I don't know how she got a license but at the time of the accident she was under court order ban on driving as well as not to consume drugs or alcohol....go figure. http://bcove.me/h6vkbxyb http://www.facebook.com/groups/322244447725/?bookmark_t=group
  12. An impaired driver that killed one of our local riders was given her sentance today.... 1 day and probation..... our riding comunity is in tears. She killed our friend, Jana, dang it. http://cfax1070.com/News/Top-Stories/Impaired-driver-who-killed-motorcyclist-goes-free
  13. I have had a second bike for a few years. I love my Venture, I have thought about a second generation Venture and almost bought one or two but that is not really practical for me to have two Ventures. I had a nice Suzuki gs 500 and my kids used it a lot as well but we all out grew it and so I went looking for something. As a friend owns the local Suzuki - Triumph - Ducati dealer I spent a lot of time there looking at what was coming and going. I test rode anything that the dealers had to test ride on their annual test ride days.... and yes that 2012 Gold Wing is a VERY sweet ride, my brothers BMW gs1200, he has had two did nothing for me. I was looking for a daily, easy ride that was good for me or my sons to use. One day I rode a V-Strom .... it had bags that come off in a few seconds if I did not need them. Or when I go touring they are suit cases at the hotels I check into. It is light, nimble easy to ride and not too bad on the insurance rates as I bought the 650 cc model. I have spent a lot of time riding my V-Strom and would recommend it to anyone for a second everyday ride. On the weekends, I polish the Venture up and love to twist that throttle every chance I get.
  14. Wow, just one Christmas? I grew up in a family of 11 children with mom and dad in the same house for a total of 55 years. Last Christmas was the very first time in my life I was not in moms' (dad passed many years ago) home. You have to close your eyes and just dream of what our house living room looked like loaded up for 11 children on any Christmas. Once, when I was about 6 or 7 I do remember waking up to very loud Classical music.... it may have been Jim Neighbours aka Gomer Pile. He was one of dads favorite singers. As of when I had gone to bed my family did not have a "stereo" just an old WWII ara radio that did not often receive anything. I went down stairs to find my dad and his brother had just carried in a HiFi Stereo unit and cranked it up. I recall my mom walking from the kitchen where she was baking into the living room and saying... Arthur you didn't! in a very stern voice.... I assumed he had asked and she had said no. I was told it was time to go back to bed and dad led me to the stairs to the bed rooms.... as we passed the windows to the front porch he tugged my shoulder and pulled the drapes apart... he showed me my first bicycle sitting there. How ever would I get back to sleep for Santa to show up? A few pictures... first is add in an uncle and a few cousins, second is a Christmas dinner with me in highchair on left, third would have been my first Christmas Tree in 1959.
  15. Looks great Rick, I am just on the wrong side of the water, do let me know if they are coming back to the island and or doing a Sunshine Coast ride. I did the Sunshine Coast in the summer on my V-Strom and it was great. Love to do it again.
  16. Is there ever enough chrome? Really, there must be more!
  17. Miles, when you get a chance, look up Paul "the Iceman" Mondor. Paul was stationed out of Victoria when he did his winter rides across North America. He used BMWs his 650 I believe with a side car once and with studded tires a few times as well. He wore snow mobiling gear from Canadian Tire I believe to keep warm. Paul was the sales rep at the BMW dealership that sold my brother his Bmr and me my '86 Venture that had been traded in. Paul is currently working in Fort MacMurry Alberta in the oil sands.... he just never got enough of the cold I guess. http://www.paulmondor.com/ be safe.
  18. Dang! Did I miss more of the good stuff?
  19. "Gas" and Propane, are only as safe as the guy that installed and serviced the equipment or the moron that vandalized the equipment. You would not believe the nightmare going on around here with fuel oil, a house being torn down to re-mediate the property after a faulty underground oil tank was filled by mistake. A single mother down the block from the same home getting a $20,000 bill because oil was traced back to her storm drains although it was not coming from her oil system in anyway.... but know body died so I guess it is safe, just an environmental night mare ! I am sure 250 gallons of volatile fuel sitting in a rusty tank in the basement will be ok long after the guy that welded it dies will be fine too. Oh did I mention I am a gas fitter........... but non bias.
  20. Glad you are doing well, bones will mend and bike be fixed or replaced. Thanks for wearing the helmet so you are able to chat with us about it. And yup I will throw in for a new helmet for you if it is needed.
  21. Let me know I will join ya. I wanna go to Charlotte some time in Nascar season. :mo money:
  22. Glad you are well, yup smoking takes it toll. Are you going to be able to fix the bike?
  23. I found a local independent m/c shop (co-op) that was happy to do mine a couple winters back in January at a cut rate on the shop rate. 1/2 price was better than nothing I guess he figured. Just a thought to look into.
  24. That took me waaaaay back. Although I have used quotes from the song over the years I had not heard it played for a very long time. I believe my dad broke the LP that it was on that one of my brothers had bought with his newspaper money. Thanks for the flash back mraf !
