I have tried to find Steve on our local facebook pages but so far he is totally elusive. Steve may just want to stay that way but I have had a lot of the local riding community complementing him.

How hot did it get in Gatlinburg?
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
Part of me says that is pretty cool..... but the other part knows it is not. My brother was in Fort McMurray Alberta Canada last spring when this happened to them. I know the feelings I had for my brother when we could not contact him for days. I know the feelings I had for the 80,000 plus residents that ended up evacuated and the hundreds that lost their homes jobs and businesses. My brother had to stay through the fire as he worked for the transportation company that bused the stranded residents and workers. His bus came out with the paint burnt off one side. My heart goes out to all of you effected by this fire storm. Glad you are safe. Stay that way please and remember.... stuff can be replaced... you cannot. A friend has a 2006 road Star 1700. When he shifts it to a gear and lets out the clutch it just "grinds and rattles" no forward movement of bike. Any if the smart folk here have ideas of what the heck? Shift fork or something like that maybe?

If I find the real Steve I will let him know how grateful you are but inthe mean time .........

Low/ intermittent usage recommendations
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to Kretz's topic in General Tech Talk
I ride year round ....except I do not take the Venture out often in poor weather..... I have a VStrom for that. So my Venture could sit a couple weeks at a time. I do put Seafoam in it.... I will add it next time I have it out..... keep it on a tender. I am lucky enough to have a good interior garage so for the most part the bikes are dry and warm. My wife's VStar and the Venture will share the tender and I will have the fuel turned off on her bike as it may sit longer than mine. You do the right thing giving the bike a pre-trip before you head out. On the lower main land and don't take the bike out if the roads are wet.... when do you ride? With that said we just had our wettest October on record. -
To gasket or not to gasket.....THAT is the question
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to uncledj's topic in Watering Hole
I would do the gasket first time. I know they are not always needed but if there had been a leak orevious then there could be damage to the faces. I would gasket it. Yes to never sieze but on exhaust system even that is not perfect. -
It is not the Venture but I know there is a lot of great electrical knowledge here. My VStrom when the turn signal is on my tail lights flicker in time with the flasher. I have check battery leads and and the battery when sitting has 12.5 volts and when running there is 14.5 volts and it fluctuates about 1/2 a volts when the turn signal is on. Ideas anyone

To gasket or not to gasket.....THAT is the question
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to uncledj's topic in Watering Hole
The way I look at it is.... how hard was it to take apart the first time..... do you want to do it again? I am Canadian so cannot use the 2 cents thing (we don't have pennies) so that is my nickels worth. -
Was it a notable difference in the sound. I love my tunes when out on the road.

Buy the E4s we need a good review on them..... when it is time for new I think that is the way I may go. Not a huge fan of the Venom's I have on my 2nd gen but way too cheap to buy replacements until they are done. I liked the E3s on my first gen and the Metzlers were a good replacement when I needed new.

Some out there have installed higher end speakers on their second gen Ventures. I know some have used the Kicker brand which I am most interested in for a number of reasons.... some just the name. Can anyone give me a model number for the Kickers or any other suitable speaker. Thanks
-
More room on the first gen rear seat than you will find on a goldwing...imo...though the second gen is capable of moving the trunk back an extra inch I am told.
-
On an 86 sitting in the passenger seat will be like sitting on a throne. If you are not comfortable in that chair the only other one I think to be better would be a second gen passenger seat.

Very glad to hear you are well and getting back on your feet Ed. All the best to you, you are in our thoughts. Hope you can keep us in yours. Be safe and well. Kevin

2nd gen kick stand
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to kevin-vic-b.c.'s topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I think the point is though that play up and down when stand is extended is "normal" I have checked my wife, Lori, V-Star stand and it has about the same movement. I think the biggest thing is to lube that joint up with the Molly grease. I believe that was 90% of my problem. My bolt and bushing was not worn visibly, it may mic out poorly but not hugely. what do they say... if it doesn't move and it should...... WD-40 if it moves and should not..............Duct Tape -
@divey we may need to talk.... I don't know how I missed this post earlier. Gotta work on the commander and chief with this but you cant ride two of them says the guy with 3 bikes in his garage now. I would like to consider newer.

I think thebest advise through all of this was to put quarters in the spring windings. I have been turning wrenches on everything and everything since I was 9 uears old and never had I heard this advice..... it was fantastic. -
Leaver Johnny is fantastic. They had a few others they wanted to put on but they tried to keep the Songs of the Sea theme going. Some may recall that Johnny Cash did a song "Sam Hall". Knackers does a fantastic version I hope will be on their next disc. The boys have been approached by a pro record producer wanting them to do a vinyl disc in the new year. Paddy on the Railway (Dubliners) and Sam Hall I am hoping will be on that. Thanks
