I know little to nothing about "setting up" carbs. I have been battling this for about a year since I bought my 02. valve adjust, carb sync, exhaust gaskets, AIS disconnect and then had local mechanical shop "adjust" carbs and re sync carbs. I am told the screws are "normally" 2.5 turns out, mine are now about 4.5 turns out and there is no longer any backfire from the bike. Don't know or really care what it does to my fuel mileage, no more backfire. Take it for what it is worth.

Need advise on Passenger comfort
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to DarkHorse9825's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have to agree with the many and say shorter shield. And also go with a full face/modular helmet, check stats and you will find about 75% impact on helmets in a crash are the chin area, things that make you say Hhhhhhhhhhmmmm. The helmet will for sure lessen the buffeting and smooth the air flow. That and remember we are on a motorcycle to feel that wind, I know the buffeting can be difficult so ride faster and cut some of it away. -
My every day bike is the V-Strom as well, I have had it for 3 years and it has never missed a beat. I ride year round but I do throw some Seafoam in a couple times a year when I am treating the Venture. I try to keep the Venture plated most of the time but when weather is crappy it may not come out often and that tank of fuel could get a couple months before it is all used. The turn key and go is great, keeps me riding more and wrenching time to a minimum. I am sure my next big bike will be fuel injected so I hope Yamaha gets it going soon.

Go see an acupuncturist, it will not repair damage but relieve pain. That with physio put all my shoulder pain away within about 6 weeks. Some physios do acupuncture as well.

Do you have a map of places you've ridden?
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to Dale124's topic in Watering Hole
I have been trying to remember to use my facebook to "check in" and that marks a map on your facebook "wall" I know not everyone is into facebook but it is another good way to track.... I know I will be marking The Dalls! -
just to clarify.... you are saying it sandwiches between the bar and the reservoir not on the lid?

Clock and thermometer
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to Groatski's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a clock that will mount on the front brake reservoir, it would look good but then I learned how to bring up the stock digital clock. push and hold the select button on the dash by the fuel gauge, presto a clock. temperature... auto zone or similar or you can buy Yamaha accessory for the handle bar. yamahasportsplaza.com go to OEM accessories.... Star OEM accessories.... select your year.... have fun Then you will find this..... http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/oemcatalogs/p/yamaha_motorcycle_cruiser_2001_royal_star_venture/star_accessories-billet_chrome/4ff76af9f870022970e61e1e/dual-split-ring-mount-by-marlins-white among other wonderful things. :mo money: :mo money: -
Have I seen recently reference to someone selling a re-jet kit for the 2nd gens? Who, why, how much if anyone knows please. All I see in the thread search is discussion of pro and con not sizes or why you would do this? Will this help the 2nd gen back-firing? No disconnecting the AIS does not magically get rid of the back firing, there is a cause that the AIS amplifies that I need to track. It is not: carb sync; valve adjust; AIS; dirty carbs; dirty fuel, but it could be jetting.... I think, maybe.... well possibly anyway. Thanks but fun

I used Metzler ME 880 front and rear on my 86..... I loved them. Great handling and real good in wet. I did a lot of 2 up and year round riding. Sold the bike 3 years after install with them still on and in good shape. Everyone will have their favorites, I have Avons on my 02 and I can say I am not as happy with them as with the Metzlers.

You can go to "thread Tools" at top of a thread and "subscribe" to the thread and you can have emails sent to you when someone posts to that thread to keep you informed.

Local PD's New patrol bikes.... making too much on speed traps??
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to KIC's topic in Watering Hole
Our local PD has been riding them for about 3 years now with mixed reaction. Our PD did order them with shiny paint, in black and white, as they were switching the cruisers back to black and white from all white. They are definitely cheaper than Harley or BMW and according to stats more dependable as well. A friend of mine has ended up servicing them and the big issue he has had is the "main fuse" located up front get soaked and shorts out. They do hit the front crash bars easily on heavy maneuvering I did notice watching the international PD Bike Rodeo last year. -
first tip: pay the $12 you will not regret it 2nd tip: rear brake at low speed (parking lots etc) 3rd tip: find out if you have a local rider training organization that offers experienced rider training, they will help you learn the feel and how the RSV can handle. 4th tip: ride it lots and have fun.

Don, power to you both. These are the times that make our marriages stronger, 33 years of experience here and many strength building days, weeks and months involved. As was said by others I am very happy that things are getting better in your relationship. I am also very happy to hear your problem was not serious health issues as others had mentioned. If the Lord helps.... take all the help you can. Stay strong and ride together. KC

In my workplace we call that a near miss and it must be reported and rectified on the spot. If they were contractors they would be dismissed on the spot. Our Moto, nobody works nobody gets hurt, if there is a chance of getting hurt, contract it out.

I have long felt... if your guts and brain say today is not a riding day.... don't ride. The first time I had one of those feelings was on a holiday weekend... groups from around town wanted a ride... I was going to go... bright sunny summer day... but it felt wrong that day.... went to the lake with the wife and her family. Well the ride got out of hand and one of my riding buddies (Jana) that had as good of brain as I would have had decided to leave the pack... I likely would have joined him. Jana never made it home that day... killed by a drunk driver. I listen when the mind and body say stay home.... Get strong.... be safe

I believe from the comments in the other forum there is an abort or cancil "button". I don't know about where you live but here you get a $167 fine for having your phone in your hand when driving. Dont have to be talking or texting just holding it. More people are killed by texting and driving than drinking and driving.

This came through to me from a local forum I am on.... it sounds like a good idea, not unlike the SPOT unit that would send out an email. Here is a link to an Android app called Cradar that can sense when you crash and if you don't move at least 8 feet in 30 to 120 seconds (whatever you set it for), it will send a text message to somebody. You can also set the sensitivity. Don't know if it's useful, or if it works, but hey it's free. Would be worth trying out. http://actionxl.com/CRADAR.html You can download it free from the Google Play Store.
