  1. You can adapt a smaller hose to the end to get right in there
  2. Sadly we lost a rider on our island this holiday long weekend. What makes it most heart wrenching is his girl friend was behind him in the car as he crashed his new to him Harley. http://www.timescolonist.com/news/local/one-dead-in-nanoose-bay-crash-1.1066242
  3. Great job.... thanks for sharing it with everyone.
  4. Technically. Yes but not by much, mostly North of me but then everything in Canada is north of me pretty much cept maybe a lake or two. Hey Bryan....... Still snowing out East? Record high temperatures and sunny here.
  5. A definition of Western needs to be made !!!!!! Whistler is a great place and we have met there before!
  6. Are you leaving out of the US ? If you are you will stop here in Victoria on the return, let me know. My wife and I have been to Alaska via cruise ship and loved it. A great way to have fun. Ooh make sure there is lots of room on your Visa Card!
  7. ALL of the above..... THEY don't care THEY don't see YOU THEY are not looking for YOU (especially in a place like Edmonton where riding season is so short) YOU gotta learn to read the other cars and drivers... wheel watching I think it was put.... but also YOU make eye contact with the driver even if THEY are not looking. YOU need to learn to read the on coming and flowing traffic way better than anyone in a cage needs to learn. YOU need to take an experienced rider training program because just braking will not ALWAYS be enough. YOU need to add additional front.... and rear.... lighting to your bike so THEY can see YOU coming for blocks. and YES THEY are all out there trying to kill YOU
  8. Been there done that, take apart and back is ok to do but very unlikely to fix backfire from right pipe...IMHO. Carb idle screws out a turn and a half further and re sync the carbs. No backfire. Just saying what worked on mine.
  9. I would definitely avoid lock washers on the plastics. If your feeling is it should have a washer then put one on because you are most likely correct. The option would be like a nylon washer behind the screw head and can also go between plastic and mounting point to help stop some of the squeaks.
  10. Tell me you sent it FEDEX AIR not Canada Post !
  11. They say Summer is just around the corner..... I been doing a lot of riding and I have not found THE corner yet. That being said we have set a few record hi temperatures already this season .... mid to hi 20s I will take in April anytime.... May should be brighter. I thought BC was the only place you could use studded tires in Canada.... have not used any in about a decade but I know they still exist.
  12. very sorry for your family's loss. I have also lost a sister in the past and know the hurt. Stay strong .....
  13. I have a co-worker that gets hot anytime here even hears the words Can-Am.... he want one bad so I would like to pass along your reviews to him. Ride safe and enjoy!
  14. I just spent the afternoon riding around the waterfront in Victoria. Late lunch at the marina watching the sail boats. 25 C daytime high.... it is 1:30 am now and it is 14 at the inner harbour.... computer says boiler start time.... 08:00.... going to be a long night.
  15. Careful she may have a large life insurance plan on you ! Throw them and throw them far! Cut them or drill holes in them so nobody else tries to use them.
  16. Every tire has an oval stamping with a four digit date code in it..... (0213) would be February 2013 manufacture. Dunlop says a tire should be replaced after 5-6 years and no tire should be used after 7 years from date code. I believe (IMO) low air pressure may also cause cracking of sidewall as well as cupping on tread. Ride safe
  17. Clive the only way I have ever packed bearings is to put a scoop of bearing grease in the palm of my left hand and worked the grease into the bearings pushing and rubbing the bearing in my right fingers. I used the Moly 50 from from JB auto beside acklands on my 86 splines.
  18. Practice ! I could not get my 86 on the center stand at first. I went to a charity thing at a dealer and they had some nice bikini clad young girls washing bikes for a donation....I had to toss in a 20. This gal that was maybe 110 lbs walked over to my bike, spun it around on the side stand pushed it over to the wash area and flipped it up on the center. There must be a trick I say. So.... push down on center stand with right foot until it touches the ground rock bike back and forth til you feel both legs touch. Then as you put your weight on the right foot have right hand on passenger arm rest and pull forward and up. Left hand on left handle bar. Youtube is always a good place to see how.
  19. Clive likely spends more time on two wheels in the rain than most of ever will. The only things I will ad is to make sure you have good tires, newer the better, after the first 100 kilometers that is, not going to start a brand discussion, keep the pledge on your helmet visor as well, rain-x does work better but be willing to swap visors once a year or so. The biggest thing is to RELAX. Keep to speed limit and relax. I ride year round, do not LIKE the rain but I do not let it stop me. If I did I would have less riding time than most of our southern and eastern friends. Oh and buy a good rain suit.... I also have boot protectors, they are from a bicycle shop.
  20. cowpuc stop messing around... we all know that is you typing! but just in case
  21. PO did it because they did not know better. Carefully heat the reflector and the trunk body from the inside with a heat gun and work the reflector off VERY carefully. It was original held in place by 2 sided (3M) tape. Go to local auto parts store buy new 3M tape.... clean all areas with something like Methyl hydrate with all old tape removed. I believe the new reflector I bought had 4 strips of about 2 inch long holding it on. Be so careful with this reflector, as far as I know you cannot buy a new one anymore. Welcome to the Venture addiction club
  22. I know little to nothing about "setting up" carbs. I have been battling this for about a year since I bought my 02. valve adjust, carb sync, exhaust gaskets, AIS disconnect and then had local mechanical shop "adjust" carbs and re sync carbs. I am told the screws are "normally" 2.5 turns out, mine are now about 4.5 turns out and there is no longer any backfire from the bike. Don't know or really care what it does to my fuel mileage, no more backfire. Take it for what it is worth.
  23. I have to agree with the many and say shorter shield. And also go with a full face/modular helmet, check stats and you will find about 75% impact on helmets in a crash are the chin area, things that make you say Hhhhhhhhhhmmmm. The helmet will for sure lessen the buffeting and smooth the air flow. That and remember we are on a motorcycle to feel that wind, I know the buffeting can be difficult so ride faster and cut some of it away.
  24. My every day bike is the V-Strom as well, I have had it for 3 years and it has never missed a beat. I ride year round but I do throw some Seafoam in a couple times a year when I am treating the Venture. I try to keep the Venture plated most of the time but when weather is crappy it may not come out often and that tank of fuel could get a couple months before it is all used. The turn key and go is great, keeps me riding more and wrenching time to a minimum. I am sure my next big bike will be fuel injected so I hope Yamaha gets it going soon.
  25. There is one here in Victoria just like yours Rick... and we have a bunch of black and white ones around town that are very similar too !
