  2. Someone on this site once posted about the weight on the side stand being different depending on how you left the front wheel. Do not recall the exact numbers maybe someone does. I normally leave my front straight unless i am in a place i feel i should lock up
  3. there is the stuff you see on late night TV that wipes on and puts every back to like new black plastic it works but heed the warning.... wear gloves to apply it it is nasty ****e
  4. it is also the same bolt as the one holding the plastic cover trim around the fuel tank filler and I believe a few other places

  6. Nope, on my phone,laptop and my PC it goes to blank white page when I click on the bookmark.... will try the other devises as when I am at work but that will not be till next week. I have used the link that you told us to book mark the forum earlier in the week to get here.
  7. It all looks great so far. I guess my big question is....... do I have to go to all my devises and relocate the book marks and auto entry set ups? Will this site end up at the same location as the old or is it a totally new thing but the same..... kinda? Oh and the spell check is fantastic!
  8. This is what I did on my 86, I did put the spacer in and the only time I ever bottomed those shocks out again was in some very aggressive rider training exercises but only a couple of bumps.
  9. mine have the cracks down the center. it is the one part of the bike that "looks cheap" they are half two tone painted and a crack down the middle

  11. Tisunac, most of the Ventures use Progressive Springs that I have heard of.... likely same thing different brand. That being said, I have not seen a procedure for installing them in a second gen Venture. I did install them in my '86 and loved what they did for the ride.   12. In the center of the handle bar cluster there is a screw cap..... remove that and you will find a shrader valve like on a tire for putting air in. Press on center stem as you would a car or bicycle tire valve IF there is any air in there it will release. When refilling if memory serves me correctly MAX air pressure is about 12 psi. I used to use about 7 on my '86. If the springs have been changed to Progressive brand then there will be no air and likely none required.
  13. Caravans and old Chevy Blazers gone in seconds. Our Blazer went missing from in front of the house one night.... stereo ripped from the dash. Fixed back up, was not worth claiming on insurance, couple months later it was stolen again along with the new stereo and the alarm system we put in it after first time.... I took the insurance payout after a couple weeks. It was "found" 2 years and 2 weeks later in an apartment building parking lot less than a mile away from where it was stolen.... along with 3 other stolen cars.

  15. Don, thanks for all you do, I for one never knew the site was down so I guess you are really earning that $12. I am just home from graveyard shift saw your first post before work now see all the responses after my shift. Too many guys on here up way too early in the morning. All my sleep deprived self could thing of was David Bowe CH-CH-Changes... listened to it on youtube before I could type this. You gotta do what ya gotta do.... will miss the original but there is a lot of originals in life we all miss but the clock keeps ticking and we will all survive I am sure. Dan, about 10 years back I was doing the 255+, I came home from work early one day as white as a sheet and feeling crappy, told the wife I was going to the basement office to do some estimating. I was told... like crap you are you are going to a doctor or emerg.... I settled for the doctor.. I spent that night in the emerg on the heart monitors. The long and short was drop the weight and get fit or we can control your heart with meds. I do not care for drugs of any kinds if avoidable. The Cardiologist I saw recommended a weight loss program that he had used in past. I dropped 22 lbs the first 10 days and in the end dropped over 75 lbs, my wife, in support, dropped 90+ lbs. What a life style change. We started walking and going to a gym. I changed jobs and started cycling to and from work.... a bit over 10 miles each way every day. I took up running in local races, doing 5 and 10 kilometer runs and this month ran in my first 1/2 Marathon. where you are going with this.... carry the bag of sugar or sack of flower in from the car on grocery day and think..... I have lost this much weight.... and I feel great. Keep up the good work and remember if it is white is it likely going to your belt line. Sugar, flower, coffee cream. Kevin

  18. The Everyday stuff is much different from traveling stuff. Everyday I carry my DL and a Visa card at least. I wear full face and ATGATT so I have pretty good protection from the elements. Most time there is a second pair of gloves appropriate for the season in a trunk or saddlebag and the telephone charger is always plugged in in the trunk. On the Everyday ride like a commute to work, well I am 10 minutes from home to work so nope don't carry tools or slime or anything that is for weekend or longer rides. So if I have DL Visa maybe a coffee card I am set for the day.
  19. I am one of the many that has both a Venture and a V-Strom in the garage. You are very correct that the V-Strom is in no way a good bike for 2-up distance riding, but it is a very good 1-up ride it anyplace or time bike. I ride year round and most of the winter riding is done on the V-Strom but the Venture still gets its fair share of miles. So far I have not had any issues with carbs on my Ventures, I have had 2, like has been said keep fresh fuel, seafoam if you think it is going to sit around some with poor weather or something.

  21. Puc, a huge difference in the two bikes! I have had both,still have the 2nd gen, I was shocked at the learning curve getting on the 2nd. Lori loves the seat (pillow top) it is great on the long rides like I know you two enjoy although I don't think there is as much room for stickers. I was lucky enough to be able to keep my 86 until I was sure I could enjoy the 02. the biggest things are 1, the heavy front end and 2, the heal toe shifter. Comfort is there, just takes some time to wrap your head around the changes.

  24. I do not know your tire brand at all but I know the cupping on my brothers BMW with Metzler tires was totally pressure related. You need to read the tire to find out manufactures recommended pressures then you can play a few PSI from there. Example is my Avon front is rated for 42 PSI max full load. 42 is high so I started at 40 and that was firm, dropped to 38 and it felt good, dropped to 36 is it was mushy feeling. I run 38 PSI front now. My V-Strom I run lower front tire pressure for the feel and flexibility, I don't have to change pressures for gravel road riding.... I can see the cupping starting
  25. On my 1st gen the PO had actually cut the holes to be slots for sliding the shield in and out with out removing the screws. Now I am not a crazy fast rider but I have been on the I-5 south and more than kept time with traffic and never had an issue the shield coming off. Make sure the screws are tight is all. To find a height to cut down to..... put bike on center stand sit on it... get comfy... wiggle around find your place. take your right hand out straight in line with your sight line.... touch the shield... mark it there. I made a template from old Corn Flakes box... 2 pieces split in the middle..... mark the top of the shield..... slid it down to my mark... matched up the outer edges.... will leave you an inch or so in the center to free hand. Cut with a fine tooth saber saw blade...... block sand the line smooth..... take a heat gun if you have one and heat the fresh cut and you will see it flow smooth.
