Sad Day at Work Yesterday
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to Chaharly's topic in Inspirational, Motivational, Prayer Requests, Etc.
I work in a high pressure steam plant now. I know the many dangers here... some keep me frightened daily, some are just in the back of my mind. If there is to be a positive from this young mans death.... let it be a lesson to us "older" workers to keep these young guys close to us on site and help them learn safety on the job. They all know what they know.... but they do not know what they do not know. It is up to us to help keep them as safe as we are on the job so no family has to go through this. Thoughts are with all touched by this tragic event. -
OK I wont say it...... We ride and that is what is important and should be important to everyone. Mine is gold yours is red white or orange, I have a black one too, it really does not matter, we ride and that is what makes us family. the end

The west coast is a great place to ride this time of year.... almost daily ride to work... if rainy I use the V-Strom

I am running a PIAA and it is much better than what had been in when I bought the bike although I do not know what that was. The old light was kinda green gold in appearance and was very dark in tunnels.

1990 venture royale new owner with the first of many questions!
kevin-vic-b.c. replied to Dave82's topic in Watering Hole
On the highway you should be getting hi 30s I would think. Once you get to that 5th gear the mileage goes up pretty good..... so keep it around 70 mph and enjoy. -
Doing the reading in the Haynes manual here and it seems that the head bolts are just Torqued to 70 Ft-lbs. No extra turn so I am assuming that these bolts with not be stressed but yes and inspection will be made. Book says to make sure to put them all back in same place they came out. The van had been sitting for a few days and so we drained the oil out, I guess it had separated and drained out with the "caffee moka" as my son called it, settling on the bottom of the drain pan. We drained the coolant as well and you know .... it is clear. I could have reused it if I had not put it into the same drain pan we had drained the oil int before. But a gallon of coolant is cheap in the big picture. Tomorrow we will get into the big stuff removal.

The head machining was something that was brought up by one local mechanic. I am not sure what the "torque to yield" means, this is a 1994 van.... nothing new under that hood. It was very out of the blue... puzzling, this van has been one of our company vans since new, they sold them off to employees so I thought... such little mileage and a good bill of health from the mechanic that had been servicing it, this van has a golden background. We have had a cold snap around here... it got to freezing maybe as low as 30*F but the coolant was good and checked weekly while in company use up to 6 weeks ago.

My sons' little dodge mini van seems to have blown a head gasket. The oil is like creamy pudding. How the heck do I clean the oil system up? I know it is going to take a couple of oil changes but should I be adding a cleaner to the oil ? This van has a 3.0 liter V-6 in it.... when I went to pick up the gasket set the guy at the parts store asked me if I wanted new Head Bolts. He said the norm is to change them when doing gaskets.... they are $165 for the set. Does anyone know if I need to? This motor has about 145,000 kilometers.... about 90,000 miles Any help would be great Kevin

As Camos says... it is a super slab. Last time I rode it it was close to 100 F. Hot and dry. Summer of 2010 my son rode his bicycle over the Coqu. Crows Nest is a very nice ride through Manning Park, and up to the Nelson area. There are a few of us on the West Coast so do keep us in the loop about your ride.

Would you have a link for them? All I find is a floor lighting company under light one up.

It did come with the wing nuts also but as I will not often switch it up I chose to just use the optional low profile kit. I chose the 8.5 inch which is low profile as most of my riding is city..... and our city has just dropped speed limits down to 25mph. I will likely only switch up a half dozen times per year. The extra width is very noticeable even on a short ride.... I like it!

kinda clashes with that old Chevy in the background! You will need to repaint one of them.

Took it for a ride this afternoon, no highway but a good ride around the waterfront. Big difference in the air flow over my arms and shoulders, as I did not have upper shield on there was air in my face..... which is what I want...... so first ride has great results.

This will happen when the bikes main battery is weak, when you go to start the bike the voltage drops too low to maintain the clock. I have said before..... don't ask how I know.
-
Just installed the Baggershield Santa brought for me. Basic install quick and easy as any wind-shield. The hardware was a bit confusing at first but a few minutes thought and it seemed to come together. I went with the "low profile" hardware for the look alone. I like a low shield so I will not often use the top, only with Lori on back on the highway so I don't mind using the A llen Wrench to switch it around. Now to go for a ride and see how it feels with the extra width. .

I wish I could afford coverage like that..... I have "fire and theft" and maybe 1 million in liability and my plate and I pay over $1100 per year. No collision coverage if I crash it Same as others no claims long time rider
