Hello guyz. My new fork seals came in and I am trying to pull the fork legs out. I loosened le lower triple allen bolts. I removed the upper triple. I pulled the little clips below the air suspension feed collars. Now the air suspension collars will not budge. They spin on the tube but they cannot move up or down. Is there a trick to sliding the collars off the tubes? It is the only think stopping me from pulling the fork legs off the bike. Also: I am going to remove the CLASS system from the bike but I am too cheap for progressive springs. Can I slide something on top of the springs to act as aspacer and have the higher ride height at all times? Fill the air with fluid and cap it?

New front tire now waiting on brake pads and fork seals also what is the best way to pull the fork legs I got it all loose and started to pull on the legs and I then I noticed the crossover line for the air system is in the way. Acess not easy in the fairring but still possible to remove the fork tubes from the air lines and pull them out like on a regular bike?

Yep she has a new rear dunlop 404 but the front is toast. My friend gave me a slightly used tire he pulled from his new bike so I am going to slap that on this weekend. Its a trailwing tire for the rear of a dual sport bike but I read on advrider quite a few have put them on the front of a cruiser with great success. Gonna do a few dirt roads with this beast.

exhaust collector options
jfman replied to jimmyenglish's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
When these start leaking, where the initial leak from most of the time? my exhaust system is in pretty good shape however I have a fluttering when I crack the throttle. I have tried to locate it but it seems to be coming from the top of the collector between the engine and clector. I have a budget of 30$ for this(not kidding) can this be an easy fix or is it a can of worms and should just live with it? -
The problem I have found buying seals and other rubber boots from the dealer is that sometimes tbey have really old stock. Once i bought carb boots from suzuki and one of the two looked much older that the other. It had bee. In inventory for at leas 15 years. I refused that one and made them get me a new boot. YMMV

I have brakes! I used the lower brake lines, banjo bolts and split from a Honda Sabre. The I used the main line from a Virago 535 and finally the master and lever from a 2010 fz6r. the upper line is too long so I had to route it west to LA then back East to NYC. I just need to splice the wire going to the brake switch, zip tie the splitter to the lower triple and Ill be done. Anti dive is history btw. No road test becuase of rain but lever feels great. At the rear I used a stubby bolt (with big copper washer stolen from a head bolt) that I stuck into the master to block off the line going to the front. I had to grind off that little nub on the master that the oem line buts up against. Rear brakes feel great as well. Very happy, total cost of Zero dollars on this fix. edit: I juste ordered a set of front brake pads for it 10$

Ok so its normal for the front lever to operate the right caliper only. That is insane! I have an almost brand new front master cylinder from a 2012 Yamaha FZ6z that should be decent. Bad timing however is that I had 9 parts bikes in the back yard and (80s yamahas and suzukis) and I called the metal guy to get them hauled away 2 days ago!!! I bet my brake lines were in the there. I even had a maximX 700 Ok best not to get discouraged. For the rear master. Where and how do I cap it? Does anyone have a photo? Everything is very well hidden on this beast

Work continues to get this beast adventure ready. BRAKES!!! Ok guyz brakes need to be sorted badly. I removed both front calipers to inpect pads. Right side brake pads are worn out. Left side brake pads are almost like new. While riding, front brakes are mushy and rear brakes are... Hummm. AWOL. I decide to bleed front first. Right side bleeds well. Then I move to the left side. There seems to be zero connection between front master and left caliper. Zero squirt on the left even with the banjo bolt removed from the caliper. Now I hit the rear brake pedal and "squirt!!!" fluid comes out from the left front caliper line. What kind of evil manure is this!?!? This is a linked system and I dont understand how its all linked up. Is there an easy(read cheap) way to seperated front and rear to make it normal again?!? I want rear brake action when pedal braking and dual caliper front brake action when squeezing lever. side note: i also need to find metallica black album and kill em all on cassette

If you do a search on kijiji Quebec, you will find about 15 Ventures below for less than 800$. About half of them run. Theres a good running one for 550$ with cosmetic damage that seems to be a decent deal. http://www.kijiji.ca/v-moto-touring/drummondville/yamaha-venture/1082019769?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true

The final fate of the bike remains to be known. A coworker of mine that used to ride one back in the late 80's is interested in maybe flying in where I am flying out to go for a ride after I am done, or maybe we find him one too and we go ride together. Here is the conversation we had when I bought it. Monday morning. Me - " did something a little crazy this weekend " Him - " what did you do now! " Me - " bought a 1980's Yamaha Venture for 250$ " Him - " Get out! I used to own one! went to Arizona with it, How is second gear? " Me - " How did you know about second gear? " Him - " They all did that, so what do you need it for? you already have a bike " Me - " Gonna ride it somewhere and abandon it, trade it for a burrito in Mexico and fly home " Him - " Brilliant! Try to find me one for this price we can go together, but not Mexico, I aint going there, let's go to Alaska " Me - " I will try to find you one " So I'm trying to secure a cheap second bike but his involvment in not garanteed, he has a family to take care of. If I go alone, maybe I pull the carbs and the CDI off when I abandon it. I did find a complete venture that has no carbs. The guy took them off to get them rebuilt and never went back to the shop for them. So he has a complete Venture minus carbs and he wants 100$ for it. I may rob the carbs from mine to put them in that 100$ Venture I found. Also if I leave it in Vegas(Vegas flights are cheap), my friend is interested in flying in and out and checking out California... The plan sure is vague right now, but it will happen

Hello guyz: I just paid the 12$ so my cost for this bike is 250 CAD + 12$ US so far. To be fair I need to post up more details. Yes the bike was only 250$ CAD but it does have the 2nd gear problem. The man who sold it to me told me the 2nd gear has been messed up up for over 5 years but he kept riding it like that anyway. I do not want to fix the 2nd gear. I just want to put good rubber on it and fix a few quirks that are making it unsafe right now. Now I hope this next part wont anger too many members on this site. I bought this bike with the sole intention to ride it to a destination, abandon/sell/donate it and fly home. On my other bike I have ridden to Alaska and Mexico. If you are interested, you can read my ride reports here: Alaska 2014: Hotel Budget Zero Spending Christmas in Death Valley and the New Year in Urique, Mexico Tour of the American West 2013 : Anyway I plan to ride to either Anchorage or Cancun or mayyybe around the US to San Diego (still unsure) and fly home. For this reason I dont want to sink too much money into it. I just hope the bike will survive the trip is all. Knowing full well it may not but that is part of the appeal of this trip. For now I need to fix a few quirks on this bike to make it safe to ride then it will be ready. I have always wanted to do a bike abandon tour and I think this bike will fit the bill. I cant wait to go on a great adventure with my Venture

Hey guyz, I just bought a running 1983 (or is it an 1985?) Yamaha venture for a song and I would like to work out a few bugs on it before going on a longer road trip. This bike has a special fate but the details are still brewing. This model has the air suspension on it that I cant seem to be able to get to work. The suspension is quite mushy and I would like to stiffen it up a bunch if I can and also raise it if possible. Is there hope for the air compressor system? Is it a costly and complex? Is it better to remove it in some cases? I am also wanting to replace the fork oil for a thicker substance. Open to any insight an suggestions but keep in mind I am not wanting to spend much money on this bike. Anyway here is a picture of my bike.
