  1. Last night I remembered to try my CLASS with the switch on ACC and then the class kinda worked (maybe I kinda didn't know how it was supposed to work tho). I couldn't do anything in manual mode but in auto mode I did get something from the rear - pumping up to 10 psi on medium?> (but I tried it a few times and think it bled down and had to pump up again). I couldn't get it to address the front forks. And at some point I got an E2 error code.
  2. wow, funny, the other day I ordered a slightly hotter 65/75 Rallye bulb and last night my high beam went out.. I really want a bright ass LED
  3. So Kevin, I could replace the left and right stays to accommodate the light but my '84 fairing will bolt back on? How's this ring with randy's input below? Oh and yes, thanks, let me look at that link for projectors
  4. At Randy: sounds like a pain in ass but seeing good is just so important to me. I might be able to get all the parts tho so about how long did the swap take? (I just hate spending a nice day working on the bike instead of riding (or worse spending a cold day working on it outside)).
  5. Good idea. Or you could drain a carb bowl and see if the pump refills it.
  6. I bought a little xj550 some time ago and it had pod air cleaners and a small metal mesh breather on the crankcase vent which was falling apart and leaking oil (maybe when I filled the case top full). So I replaced the breather with a piece of clear hose (don't ask me what type of where it came from but I bet home depot) looping the hose up over the carbs then back down under the bike (do it can speak a slick in front of my rear tire). Been like that for years and I don't see oil in the hose.
  7. Of course. You're right again.. mine too. It was so thin I thought plastic but I still like the idea on light going through one piece of glass
  8. Anyone doing it? I'd think that the Mk2 light without the extra plastic cover on the mk1 (& Mk2 with a bigger reflector?) Must throw more light from the same h4 bulb. Anyone doing this upgrade? Results? Recommendations on making it fit?
  9. I'm 160 and my gf is about 100. I don't think my mk1 knows. We are riding it.
  10. I've been thinking long about a sport tour like an FJR. With two old little cafe racers I was just looking at bikes on Craigs and found the xvz12 interesting and cheap so I got it. Never cared for dressers but I stripped the bags and trunk and unecessaries and love it. Good in the cold weather. How does the FJR compare for comfort and effort? I'm getting old.
  11. I bought a cheap little Chinese dvm for my buddies boat and it's off about 0.5v. Also blue digits at night affects night vision. Get red digits. And I'd have it connected to ignition voltage when you turn the bike on... you can always probe the battery too. Lastly it won't accurately show battery voltage while cranking starter like an analog meter will do.
  12. Glad to hear that worked out. Lucky you got a smart and caring doctor.
  13. That really sick and I hope you take the rehab very seriously if you want that ankle back. It's gonna hurt and be very hard. But if you feel burning or sharp pain during pt, let the doctor know. I was pushing my hip too hard and not letting the siatica heal. Can't imagine moving a big venture around with bum ankle. Dammm!
  14. Don't shovel? I'm 52 and I plow snow and shovel my building when I get home.
  15. The lens (i called it a refractor) on the headlight is glass. But the cover that follows contour of the fairing is plastic
  16. thanks. No I didn't know ACC position bur I think I went through the fuses..
  17. Good points I bet it wouldn't be too hot for the later light fixture (just one glass defray tor on the outside right?). I could get the ceramic connector but wonder if total amp draw would be too much for the stator. Any links for the hi amp stator upgrade??
  18. Is it for sure the convention with H4 halogens that the low beam turns off when the high beam is on? And this is how the ventures are wired? I had planned a pair of relays to run the headlight hi and low beams but that would run either or headlight and keep the stock feature of turning off the headlight when the starter is engaged (I have to look how that's done..). The only way I could figure to run both the high and low beam would be with a switch in series with the 12 V to the low beam relay (so the normally closed contact would also be tied to the head light low beam). With this set up I'd need a heavy duty waterproof switch and have to be sure to turn the light off when I hit the starter button and when I shut down the bike... ideas?
  19. I posted on candle power forums and they don't think any drop in HID or LED into a halogen reflector assy is good at all. and they hate all the Chinese knock offs. they like the new Phillips LED H4 drop in my not for bikes. And I think it has one driver for the two bulbs/pkg anyway.. this one: http://www.xenondepot.com/h4-philips-12953BWX2-LED-Bulb-p/12953bwx2.htm. They liked the JW speaker or truck lite 5X7" led headlamps and made note that a clear cover like my 1984 has can take 15% of the light away.. So I think for now I'm going with relay to get the battery voltage to the bulb and a good halogen bulb like the Phillips extreme vision or Osram Nightbreaker.. But I could also get the later headlamp assy with defractor on the outside like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/87-Yamaha-Venture-Royale-XVZ1300-1300-Front-Headlight-Light-lights-XVZ-86-93-/111821297025?hash=item1a09119581:g:vH0AAOSwwbdWQo94&vxp=mtr .. I think this would be much better.. does it drop in or any special instructions?? http://www.ebay.com/itm/87-Yamaha-Venture-Royale-XVZ1300-1300-Front-Headlight-Light-lights-XVZ-86-93-/111821297025?hash=item1a09119581:g:vH0AAOSwwbdWQo94&vxp=mtr
  20. I'm back. I posted on candle power forums and they felt none of the drop in HID or LEDs were good/legal except the new/expensive Phillips H4 LED ( http://www.xenondepot.com/Philips-12953BWX2-H4-LED-Bulb-Review-s/62.htm). I think for now I will be going with a Philips X-treme Vision halogen bulb and upgrade the headlight harness to one feeding the bulb direct from the battery through a relay. Does anyone know if the convention in these halogen bulbs (and our MK1's) is to keep the low beam on when the high beam is turned on? I'd like that if it doesn't kill anything.. Oh but my pal has an 1986 or 87 headlight for me which must be much better as they have only one defractor on the outside (instead of my 1984 which has the defractor on the headlight and a clear plastic on the outside fairing surface. CPF people said a clear cover can rob 15% of the available light.). perhaps I'll get crazy and do some of my own comparison tests of drop in HID and LEDs. And then test those against a pair of HID projectors (I have a pair of 68mm pods).. Looks like my pair of 68mm pods could be mounted in a MK1 headlight frame.
  21. The class controller on my '84 does not do anyghing. It just says "PSI" on the screen. Can someone point me to a starting point? & then is rear pressure the only thing I can set for ride height? I'd like it low as possible. I'm 160lbs and my gf is another 100lbs and joins me sometimes.
  22. I have 3.5 bikes and live in the northeast and ride all year. Never too long or far in the cold weather but I ride. With this I really only need one bike on the road and the venture is my first bike with a big fairing and windshield. It's comfy and my winter rids now so the little bike gets laid up.
  23. And light output is exponentially proportional to voltage
  24. Great idea george even with a light upgrade. Last time I check voltage coming off my ignition. Switch it was almost a volt low.
