Thanks Eck and everyone else. I'm going to have a look at it tomorrow. Was going to today but decided to ride instead. I plan to check the fluid and bleed it. I thought about taking the hydraulic unit off for repair at a shop. However, I'm not sure I want to invest any money in it since I don't like it that much anyway. It works but it's not too convenient to use. Even with the removable panel you can't drop the rear wheel out without jacking the rear of the bike quite high because of the cross bar at the rear. I'm more interested in a lift that is clear to the rear once the rear panel is removed. Something like this http://excel-equipment.com/motorcycle-lifts-equipment/motorcycle-atv-lifts/titan-1000d-motorcycle-lift.html If I can get it working for just a few dollars I probably will. If not it will be replaced. Dennis

Unfortunately the lift is 5 or 6 years old. Sounding like it may become scrap metal. Dennis

I've got one of the POS Harbor Freight air/hydraulic lifts. I used it a couple of weeks ago with no problems. Today I put the bike on it and went to lift it and it rose about an inch and wouldn't lift further. There is no sign of oil leakage anywhere. Does anyone know if there are any serviceable parts on it? Attached is a photo of the jack mechanism. Dennis

Brian, I retired last fall and have been hounded by what seems like every financial advisor in town wanting my business. Of course they all want 1 to 2 percent for their efforts. My company had our 401K with Fidelity. I chose to leave everything with them. I sat down with their rep (fee free) a couple of times and worked out a self managed plan using their online tools. They have a nice retirement income planner online that I think is very good. Based on your risk tolerance it helps you invest in various investments to meet your goal. I know the market is up right now and I've done very well over the past 6 months. I just can't see giving an advisor the first 1 or 2 percent doing something I can do myself. Since 9/1/12 I am up a 9%. I doubt an advisor would do much better. Good Luck. Dennis

Art, glad to hear you are doing better. Heal quickly. Miles, thank for posting the info on the ICE device. Just ordered a set. I found them a bit cheaper at the Ice Device web site. http://www.theicedevice.com Ordered extras for a few of my riding buddies. Dennis

I'm sorry to say that Valerie and I won't be able to host the Central Ky Memorial weekend this year. We have some other commitments that will prevent us from participating this year. I hope to get back on the schedule next year. Just wanted to let the regulars know so you can plan accordingly. Ride Safe, Dennis

Winchester is a small town east of Lexington. Not too much there. A few manufacturing shops. It's a typical small town with a Lowes and a Super Walmart. Finding a condo with a garage may be a problem there. There is easy access to Lexington via I-64. Dennis

Angel, I'm a native Lexingtonian. First, where is your store and do you want to be near it? I don't know a lot about rental property but I'll do what I can to help. Dennis.

I've attended numerous retirement seminars in last few years and at all of them they stressed the need to have a balanced investment and to have 3 to 4 years of living expenses in a secure investment. The logic being that historically and steep market downturn will recover in 3 to 4 years. So as long as you are not pulling from your stock investments you won't lose. I recently retired and I've learned that I was too heavily invested in money market type funds over the years but I've still done OK. I recall 10 or 15 years ago the market started going down so I bailed out to preserve my money. And unfortunately the market rebound was slower and I failed to get back in at the right time. I would have been money ahead if I had just left it alone. If you have a Fidelity account they have some really good tools for retirement income planning. I've followed their advice since I retired and I'm up about 7% in 4 months. I'm through with market timing. Got my plan in place and I'm sticking to it. Dennis

Just curious, How many Wing Riders do we have on the site?

Eck, I lost count long ago. Dennis -
I just checked the Motorcycle consumer news performance index and they list the following times: 2004 Midnight Venture - 13.58 sec@ 95.25 mph 2004 GL1800 - 12.71 sec @ 102.9 mph That seems pretty close to the video times. The GW in the video may have been a bit slow. Dennis
-
Just stumbled upon this youtube video of a Venture and a couple of Goldwings drag racing. Running in the low 14's I thought the Venture held up very well to the Goldwing. [ame] [/ame] Dennis

I came home from the hospital yesterday and they gave one of the cpm machines to work my leg. I've got to use it 4 hrs per day. I used it two hrs last night and worked up to 95 degrees. Home therapists were here this morning and I'm "relaxing" on the machine right now. I'm going to dial it up to 100 degrees for the last few strokes. I think I'm doing pretty well for 3 days post op. Dennis

I check out of the hospital tomorrow after two therapy sessions. On Friday the dailey home health therapy sessions start. They seemed to think all of my therapy would be done at home. I would think after the first week or so I should be able to go to an outpatient center and receive better therapy than I would at home. Got to talk to the Doc about that in the morning. Dennis
-
Just had my second session with some weights, stretching and walking. I can straighten out to near zero witch is better than I could do before the surgery. I got up to about 60 degrees with the therapists's help and that didn't feel real good. I'll be heading home tomorrow after a couple of therapy sessions. Dennis
-
Whew! Just finished my first PT session. I walked about 10 ft with the walker. They started bending the leg and that was exciting. Got me to 53 degrees of motion with the first session. They told me that was good. Dennis
-
Everything seemed to go well with the surgery. Although it took me 3 hrs to get out of recovery. The pain overnight wasn't too bad and I was able to rest well. After breakfast this morning they will start my therapy and have me walk a bit. What fun! Dennis

Just picked up on this thread again. Fortunately for me, I am on my wife's (federal employee) insurance plan and we can keep that into retirement at relatively the same cost. She's working another year. Had I been on my employer's plan the insurance would be nearly unaffordable as a retiree. Nearly $1000/month for a decent plan. Just talked to a guy tonight that had spent $90k this year on care for his wife. Dennis

I'll be off to the hospital early tomorrow for a total knee replacement. After dealing with knee pain for the past 8 to 10 years I'm looking forward to getting this done. Not looking forward to the rehab but at least it will be done in the winter and shouldn't impact my riding much. Glad they've got wifi in the hospital. Dennis
-
Now that's a good idea. I'll look into that. It may have to wait until I get my new knee next month.

Thanks for all of the advice. One thing I've noticed since I stopped working is that I am not very efficient with my time. 30 minute jobs I used to do around the house now take all morning or afternoon. It's hard for me to gen in a rush to do anything now. I'm getting into a routine. I still get up at the regular time to see my wife off to work and then I run up to the nearby McDonalds to meet my riding buddies for coffee each morning. After that it's time for my mid-morning nap. And then on to lunch. A few chores in the afternoon and then help with dinner. Whew, tires me out thinking about it. I've got a small business opportunity that I plan to startup after the first of the year that should keep me busy a couple of days a week and provide fun money to keep me out of my 401k. Dennis

Thanks to my company downsizing, effective last week, 10/31 I officially joined the ranks of the retired. I always wondered how you knew when you had saved enough to retire. Now I know. At first I was a little pissed but after it set in and I ran through all of the numbers I realized I was ready to retire and should. I've not worked for the last couple of months and I'm really getting used to the time off. I've been catching up on a few household chores and taking a few weekday rides. I'll probably soon get bored enough that I'll get into something a couple of days a week. It's sure nice not to have to worry about solving problems every day. If I can offer a word of advice to those of you still working, SAVE! Dennis

Just added more lighting to rear of the Wing
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Honda Goldwing Tech Talk
They are Kuryakyn parts and I got them from Wingstuff http://wingstuff.com/products/3659-chrome-lense-led-lighted-moldings Dennis -
First, your wife may have just wanted you to get the new Iphone 5. Since you had an Iphone your data may be backed up to your pc if you ever did a backup or IOS upgrade. Dennis
-
Makes me glad I bought the Wing last year instead of waiting for an upgrade. Dennis
