Dragonrider, If you could send me the original file for the group shot at the shelter I may be able to tune it up a bit ini photoshop to bring out more detail. Here is a tune up of a screen grab from the photobucket. DT

Don, As another data point, I was getting in the mid 30's MPG (corrected with a speedohealer) on the trip to and from Vogel. While there, running much slower speeds I was getting around 40 mpg. Everything on my bike is stock. Dennis

Heal toe shifter came off
Midrsv replied to 2Whlsrollin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I had a new clutch installed a couple of weeks before mine fell off. I suspect the mechanic failed to use loctite on it when he put things back together. It had run about 32k miles with no problem. DT -

Heal toe shifter came off
Midrsv replied to 2Whlsrollin's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Same thing happened to me last month on my way out west. I held it on with a couple of plastic wire ties and rode on for a few hundred miles until I stopped at a NAPA store and picked up a bolt and loctite. I was sure glad it was attached to the linkage. It's a strange feeling reaching for the shifter and to not find it there. DT -
The Zumo 550 is less than $200 more than the 450. I bought mine here: http://www.buydig.com/shop/product.aspx?sku=GRZUMO550 I don't know all of the differences but I believe the 550 adds XM capable, bluetooth phone compatible and MP3 player. I use the bluetooth phone and XM phone features on mine all of the time. The XM option adapter adds another $200 or so. I highly recommend the either unit. DT

My 04 does the same and has done it for as long as I can recall. Headlight dims slightly with turn signal or brake light. It still starts strong so I'm not too concerned. I'll probably get a new battery before next year. DT

You need to post your schedule. Had I known you were in Lexington last week I would have bought you dinner one night. Dennis -
I got my "I" basket today
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
After living with the "I" basket a little longer I now have to say that it did significantly quieten things down. I would certainly do it again. Dennis- 14 replies

I got my "I" basket today
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I just told my dealer that I wanted the basket changed. They called Yamaha and they were told to ride the bike to confirm that it was needed. They did that and then ordered the parts. No problems. DT- 14 replies

I picked my bike up from the dealer this afternoon. They did a complete service and part of it was installing an "I" clutch basket under warranty. I think it helped some but it did not completely eliminate the noise. It's still there, just not at such a high pitch. I think it was worth the effort. DT

OK, Need your expert help again....
Midrsv replied to a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I know this doesn't help, but I have a friend who has the same problem with this radio mounted on a Suzuki 800. So far the dealer has been no help. DT -
I love the Stebel horn. Had a little fun with mine today. I was going to work this morning along a 2 lane road that connects subdivisions and there were these 2 late teen age guys walking down the center of my lane with their back to me. There are now sidewalks along this road and the right should was tree lined. You know the type, crotch of their pants down to their knees, underwear showing, strolling along daring someone to hit them. Had I been in the car I am sure they would have just glared at me and slowly moved out of the way. Since I have stock pipes on the bike they didn't hear me coming and when I got about 100 ft from them I layed on the horn. One of the guys dove for the trees and the one furthest from the side tried to run but couldn't because his belt was around his knees. As I passed he was pulling his pants up and trying to get off the road. I am sure they thought they were about to be hit by a truck. It put a smile on my face all the way to work. DT

Look good Charlie. Can you give us a source for the LED lights on the fender. Looks like they could work on a trailer. Looks like you are using a Whelen strip lite under the trunk. I've got the same one and it is great. DT

2nd Gen Hitch question
Midrsv replied to garyjzr's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I've got a vertical receiver hitch for my Unigo trailer and it works fine. Inserting the hitch drawbar is no more difficult than a horizontal hitch. My bar is square instead of the rectanular bar on the Cheyenne hitch. I bought my hitch from Dauntless motors and I don't recommend them. Very poor customer service. For photos of my drawbar follow this link: http://www.traynorphoto.com/unigo/ DT -
I thought the same thing. I took a dremel tool and cut slots in the plastic cap and then bent the connectors so that they don't protrude below the cap. Once the weather improves I'll be able to test it. The thing is loud though, isn't it. DT

Just got my horn installed this weekend. Man that thing is loud! I cana't wait until the next cage tries to move into my space. This horn will knock them back into their lane. I made my bracket out of a 3/4" wide section of 2 1/2" angle stock and it is 3/16" thick and very sturdy. DT

All this talk about horns made me want one. I just ordered a chrome one from my local accessory shop for $41.95. Now I just gotta figure out how to hook the thing up. DT

I got tire of the speedometer (and odometer) being off so I installed a speedohealer last summer and it works as advertised. My correction factor (based on my gps and roadside radar) was 8.6%. It's dialed in perfectly now. So now not only do I read the correct speed but my mileage is no longer inflated by 8.6%. Dennis

RSV Electrical Capacity Info
Midrsv replied to V7Goose's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Good timing on this thread. I received a heated jacket liner for Christmas and just hooked it up about an hour ago. While I did check voltages across the battery at idle and at about 2000 rpm with the jacket on and off. At idle I measured 13V and at 2000 rpm 14.1 V with the standard low beam and Yamaha passing lamps on. With the jacket liner, which is rated at 100 watts at 13.8V, the voltage drops to 12.2V at idle and 13.5V to 13.7V at 2000 rpm. If you reduce the heat of the jacket the jacket controller cycles the power on an off. So if I run it on a lower setting the drain only occurs 25% to 50% of the cycle. As it cycled on an off I did noticed that the headlight would significantly dim. What is the minimum voltage to consider the system to be in a charging state? Dennis -
JJ, Sorry to hear about your crash. I hope you recover soon and get back on a new bike. Trailers do add to your stopping distance and that is why I bought a Unigo trailer. It is smaller than the others so my wife can't take the kitchen sink. If I had a trailer that would carry 400 lbs it would be loaded and pushing me. The Unigo at about 150 lbs loaded doesn't push too bad. DT

Does anyone here ride with a heated jacket liner? If so, how did you run the electrical connections and what type/brand of jacket are you using? Since I try to ride to work when ever the temps are above freezing I'm thinking I could extend to those high 20's days with a heated jacket. What are your thoughts? Dennis
