Thanks for the advice, we will be going through Bluff and Mexican Hat on our way to Monument Valley. We'll be taking 191 to 163. About that free range cattle, is it everywhere or only in certain areas? Dennis

Thanks Tom, I will have multiple cameras and multiple batteries for each and a pocketful of CF and SD cards. I checked out Cameron on the map and it is a little further south than we planned. We'll be coming through Monument Valley from the NE on 163 and then take 160 SW until we turn back to the NW on 98 headed to Page. It looks like Cameron would add another 80 miles or so to the day. This year's motorcycle adventure is about 3 weeks away. My wife and I, along with 5 other couples will be travelling to Utah the second week of June. All of the guys will be riding from central KY to Grand Junction, CO where we will meet up with our wives who will be flying in. From there we will be riding a 6 day loop through southern Utah. We plan to visit Arches, Zion and Bryce Canyon, Cedar Breaks, and Capital Reef National parks along with Monument Valley. We will be staying in Moab, Page. AZ, Springdale, Bryce and Bicknell before heading back to Grand Junction. I am looking for recommendations for restaurants and other sites to see. From my research online there doesn't appear to be a lot of restaurant selection in some of the towns and what is there doesn't get too good of a review. I am hopefull that we can find some decent food. I am also interested in any unique points of interest, places that we must stop to see. Other than the day from Moab to Page we should only be traveling about 100 to 150 miles per day. So that should give us a fair amount of time to look around. Thanks, Dennis

I just ran into the same problem when having a new set of tires installed. Seems when the dealer installed my saddle bags they over-torqued the screws. I just took an air driven cut-off wheel and cut the head off. I replaced it with a hex head bolt. I have been thinking about ordering a set of the screws with knobs from the ebay seller. DT

Got my new Avons today, WoooHooooo!
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I went back with the stock sizes. I had previously tried the smaller front on my '04 and I didn't like it on the highway. I'll have to let you know in a few months how the nitrogen works. For 10 bucks it's no great loss. I've pissed a lot more away on other things that didn't work. DT -
Wanting to get away from the Yamaha filters I went to Autozone today and picked up a Purolator Pure One PL14610 for $5.88. When I got home I decided to check the Purolator web site and their application guide calls for am ML16819 filter for the Venture. Does anyone know how this differs from the PL14610. DT

Frogg Toggs work for me. They are light weight and don't take up much space in the saddle bag. I've been through some torential rains and remained dry. For the price I don't think you can beat them. I ride with some guys that swear by Nelson Rigg suits that have bib type pants. They seem to take up a more room in the bags. DT

For touring I use a Nelson Rigg MG-950 tank bag. I keep an SLR digital camera, compact digital camera, note pad, sunglasses, etc. in it. It is very secure with the magnets. I found this online source. http://www.rawpowersports.com/detail.aspx?product=352&department=4 DT

My audio system has started acting up a bit. I've been getting some ignition noise through my headset on acceleration occaisionally and it seemed to be related to the mic input to my Zumo 550. When it happened I could wiggle the mike connectioin and it would change or go away. Today it began making the noise again and I unplugged the mic and the noise volume was reduced. I thought it was coming through the intercom circuit so I turned it off also and still had the noise. I'm not sure is this is related or not but I have been having a very infrequent problem with the audio control panel going dead in that the 3 buttons on the bottom will just not function for a period, generally less than 15 minutes. This has happened about 4 times in the last couple of months. The dealer has ordered a new control panel. It seems I read a post recently where someone had some warranty work done on their bike and one of the things done was wrapping the wiring with "RF tape". I've been searching for that post and haven't been able to locate it. Does anyone know if there is a service bulletin calling for that? I'll be talking with the dealer about it soon. DT

Good advice so far. I would stay away from Force/Chrysler outboards. I've had good luck with OMC (Johnson/Evinrude) outboards. The last couple of boats I've owned were V8 inboard/outboards. I hear that the newer 4-stroke outboards are a little easier on gas. Probably a lot more expensive as well. With the high gas prices I would expect a lot of good used boats on the market but I haven't looked. DT

I installed my new Clearview XX-Large windshield last weekend. My wife has been for a couple of rides with me and she commented on having less wind buffeting. I look through the windshield and haven't found that to be a problem. This afternoon I rode home in the rain and the windshield sheets water off much better than the stock one. We are very satisfied with it. DT

Rod, looking forward to your trip report. We headed to the Southern Utah area the second week of June. We're planning to visit Bryce, Zion, Arches, Cedar Breaks and Monument Valley. DT

How do I check the CB antenna location?
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I checked the cabling and the right side is routed along the CB box under the trunk and then turns toward the center and then back toward the front of the bike. I assume it is headed toward the AM/FM radio. The left cable turns into the left side of the CB housing. So, it seems clear to me that the antennas are reversed. I'll be changing them tomorrow. Thanks for the info. Dennis -
On my '07 RSV the CB and radio antennas are reversed from the sides they were mounted to on my '04 RSV. The CB is on the right and the am/fm is on the left. The CB seems to work about as good on the '07 as the '04. My question is, is there a way to determine if the antenna staffs have been improperly installed or if by chance they are correct and the cables were just routed to the opposite sides? Is there a way to visually check this short of tearing into the radio and tracking down the cables? This has been bugging me for a while and I am about to tear into it. Thanks, Dennis

I bought an '07 Blue/Black in Oct I paid $13,800 plus tax. That is a model year older and the end of the season pluse there was a $500 dealer incentive. So I would think if you are in the $15,500 k range it should be competitive. DT

After reading the posts here and comments by Kit Carson I felt compelled to add mine. Last fall I totaled my ’04 RSV with 42,000 miles on it. Loved that bike. During my time with that bike I learned many things about it. Some I liked and some I didn’t. It had the dreaded whine that was mostly corrected with a basket change. It needed better lighting which I took care of with passing lamps and rear led lights. It had an antique cassette deck which I never used but it did have an aux input so no foul there. It could use a bit more power but I was able to stay ahead of anyone I needed to be in front of. It had the best warranty in the industry and above all other things, it was comfortable for both me and more importantly, for my wife. So after my crash I found myself shopping for a new bike. Most of my riding buddies ride Gold Wings with one on an Ultra and one on a K1200LT and I had plenty of encouragement to look at other brands. So I did. While I like a good value as much as the next guy, money was not much of a consideration. I could afford any of the bikes on my list. BMW and Victory were taken off the list quickly due to their limited dealer networks. We like to tour and I didn’t want to get stuck hundreds of miles from a dealer. So, that left me looking at Gold Wings and Ultra Classics. Both are great bikes. I really like the looks of the HD but I found it to be too small. Not enough leg room and the passenger space was too tight. I also prefer water cooling. Good HD dealer network and I found their dealers pleasant. That left me with the Gold Wings and I really wanted to like them since I had traveled extensively with Wing riders. The GW had everything I wanted, power, fuel injection, ABS, electronics, water cooling, etc. However, I could not get comfortable on it. I tried multiple times. I had people telling me I could add floorboards, heal/toe shifter, highway pegs, etc to make it more comfortable for me. At the end of the day I came back to a new RSV. It’s comfortable and met my needs. At $13,800 for a new ’07 I felt I had $6000+ to improve the lighting. Is it the perfect bike? No way. All bikes, in my opinion, require compromises. The one compromise I couldn’t live with was being uncomfortable. Each of the last 2 years we took 4000 plus mile trips and we have another trip planned for June. My ’04 was a proven tour bike and I have no doubt that the ’07 will do just as well. So with the compromises I chose to make, it was the right bike for me. DT

I lost a fender tirm screw on both my '04 and '07 RSV. While at the hardware store getting a new screw I just bought nylock nuts for all of the fender trim screw. DT
