  1. When you mount the water temp sending unit in the top of the head, how much clearance do you have for the sending unit probe to protrude into the head. Are there any clearance issues. I will be installing my water temp gauge tomorrow. I'm using an electronic Autometer marine gauge that I bought from egauges.com along with chrome housing from VDO which I plan to mount from the handlebar with a ram mount. Hope it works. It's considerably more expensive that the gauge setup you guys are using, about $80 total. I plan to take some photos to upload. Dennis

    Heated ensemble

Be careful when you turn it all on at once. I have a jacket and when it's on high it will discharge the battery. I have a volt meter and it will begin to drop after about 20 minutes. I put a switch on my carb heaters and it helps to switch them off. DT
  4. My Unigo trailer was black which matched my '04 Midnight when I bought it. Now that I have the blue '07 it bothered me that the trailer didn't match. So, a friend of mine helped me paint the upper 2/3rds of the trailer this weekend. That PPG paint stuff is expensive. It turned out pretty good. The color match is good but the finish isn't as glossy as I had expected. I've been told that I can polish it to a higher gloss once the paint cures for a few weeks. Attached is a poor photo of it. I still need to add a tape pin stripe at the color break similar to the bike. The paint store couldn't find a paint code so they used a device to scan the bike's paint and then mixed the paint to match. I'll post a better photo once I'm finished with it. DT
  5. After doing the same thing when trying to back into parking spots with my wife on board we now always stop and have her dismount before I back into the spot. And, if it is uphill she can then help push. DT
  6. I don't mind night riding. Just remember to not out ride your headlights. DT
  7. I plan on riding up Saturday morning. I'm about an hour south of you. I could meet up with you Saturday morning and we could ride together. We could make it by 10:30 or 11:00. Dennis
  8. Planning a trip to Charleston and Savannah in May, MD in June, Western NY in June and hopefully back to Colorado in July. Haven't throught much beyond that. DT
  9. OK, I've ordered the components and I'm going to give this a try. I have a couple of questions regarding the plug and sensor mounting in the top of the head. Is any type of thread sealant needed on the plug threads? I hope not, I read somewhere that with and electronic gauge you need a good ground through the threads. Also, is there a torque spec for the plug? Dennis
  10. Thanks, that's what I thought. I'm probably going to order a single marine water temp gauge from egauges.com. It will be an electrical gauge. Dennis

  12. Jlh3rd, In one of your posts you mentioned if you were doing it over you would use mechanical gauges instead of electrical. Can you elaborate on that? Especially the water temp gauge. Dennis

  14. While I like my Unigo, the Aluma is a much better value. Dennis
  15. After reading recent posts about mounting gauges it got me to thinking more about mounting a water temperature gauge. I wanted to do something that could mount from the handlebars via a RAM mount. I've spent a little time today and visited some local parts stores and online sites and I think I may have found a solution. It was recommended that I use a marine gauage because they are sealed better. I found a web site that has everything I think I need except the actual RAM mount. Marine Water Temp http://www.egauges.com/vdo_ind.asp?Type=Elec_Engine_Temp&Series=Chr_Ultra_Mar&PN=ATM-200762-35 Sender http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indS.asp?Sender=ATM_95_Temp&PN=ATM-2258 Adapter http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indA.asp?PN=R7965 Housing http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indA.asp?PN=CD1200-52 I welcome your opinions on this before I place my order. 16. This thread has me thinking again about adding a water temp gauge. Has anyone thought of using a mounting cup similar to this, http://www.egauges.com/vdo_indA.asp?PN=240-017 and mounting a 2 1/16" gauge in it mounted to the handle bar with a RAM type mount? The RAM mount would allow it to be angled out away from the dash. I use a RAM mount for my GPS and it is very secure. Just thinking out loud. DT

  18. We've had good luch with Frogg Toggs as well. Last fall my wife and I bought the motorcycle specific version of Frogg Toggs that has the reflective piping. I think they are called Road Toads or something like that. We haven't put them to the test yet but I am certain they will work fine. DT
  19. Yep, count me in. I look forward to it. Dennis
  20. I use Microsoft Streets & Trips for trip planning. I've been also working with the HD website trip planner. DT
  21. I talked to my friend and it's not for sale. He said if he buys a new bike he'll just paint it to match. DT
  22. Good question!
  23. I have a friend that may have one for sale. It is a white one and has been towed about 8,000 miles. Attached is a poor photo of it on a recent trip. I'll try to ask him about it today. DT
  24. One of my riding buddies is in the process of changing the air filter on his Goldwing. What a mess. He's got parts all over his garage and still hasn't gotten down to the filter. Seems you have to pull all of the plastic off between the seat and the handlebars including the dash and side covers. He's not happy. It turns out the dealers get 2 to 2.5 hours of labor for changing a filter. He's so mad he went out looking at Harleys today. DT
  25. I have the same meter. I tapped into the 12V outlet wiring so that it would be switched on with accessories and ignition. I get 2 green lights most of the time. Ocaisionally at idle it will drop to one green light. When riding with my heated liner it will sometimes drop to yellow. DT
