Kevin (Leadwolf56) just called me from Gatlinburg and he has a broken windshield on his 2nd gen. Do we have any members in the area that may be able to help him out? Anyone in the area have a spare windshield or know of a dealer in the area that may have one? He doesn't have internet access while there. I have his phone number is 574-612-3837. Dennis

Joe, do you have a meeting place (hotel) picked out? I hear it gets busy in the Brown County area in the fall. We may need to make hotel reservations early. Not sure how close you plan on being to Bloomington but there is a home IU football game against Ohio on 10/3. That will probably fill hotels in that area. Dennis

We're interested if it's the first weekend (10/3 - 10/4). We'll be headed to FL the second weekend. Dennis

I think my rear shock has failed
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'll consider that. I've got to call them Tuesday to get an update on the delivery and schedule an appointment. We rode US 421 from Mountain City to Bristol today and a good shock sure would have been handy. Dennis -
I'm currently in SE VA on our weekend ride and I belive my rear shock has failed with 27,000 miles on it. With about 40 psi in the shock it will bottom our over the slightest dips in the road. I've already called my dealer and they have contacted Yamaha and have a new shock on order for me. Hope to have it installed next week. We're still able to ride but the bike doesn't seem to handle as well. Oh well!:crying: Dennis

I heard from my dealer last week that his normal bike allocation is typically 110% of what he sold the previous year. For 2010 he has been told that the allocation will only be 70% of last year. Seems their slowing or stopping production on several models due to the economy. He mentioned that there will be no 2010 kids trail bike because they already have enough inventory of the 2009 bike to carry them through next year. He also said the Vstar 1100 is being discontinued. If you don't have a speedohealer on your speedometer you probably can't set the cruise on a 2nd gen it at a true 85. At an indicated 85 you are probably only running about 77 or 78 due to the speedometer error. DT

We're leaving in the morning for our Eastern TN, Western VA loop. See http://rideplanner.harley-davidson.c...r/share/236707 We plan to overnight in Abingdon, VA Friday night and Kingsport TN Saturday night. Does anyone have recommendation for a good (non-chain) restaurant in those areas? Or anywhere else along the way? Any sites that we need to make sure we see? If you see a blue RSV, a Goldwing, a black HD Ultra, a black Vulcan, and a black V45 Magna driving by wave us down. Thanks, Dennis

Nope, C class is the smaller car. The go C, E, S small to large. http://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/#/vehicleComparisonMenu/ DT
-
True, but it is C class Mercedes which is the smallest model, a subcompact I believe. It would be interesting to see the results against a full size car or SUV. I wonder if it would wrinkle my Tahoe's bumper? DT

Thanks for the link to TWT. I read most of the comments there. It appears that the unit isn't perfect but as long as you've got a clear view to the sky it works fairly well. I'm going to try one. If it doesn't work it won't be the first time I've thrown money away on a new toy. Dennis

I've found that SPOT is offering a rebate which is good for a free unit when you sign up for 2 years of service. I've had a modest interest in one of these units for some time and this rebate is about to push me over the edge. However, the reviews I've been reading online tonight about the SPOT service don't look too favorable but it is hard to tell if people are using the unit properly. Does anyone here have personal experience with the SPOT system and if so, what are your thoughts? Thanks, Dennis

My wife and I have been very pleased with our HJC CL-33 units. The speakers fit fine in them. http://www.helmetcity.com/page/HC/PROD/cl33/cl33silver Dennis

Thanks for the input. For clarification, I'll be towing the trailer with a Chevy Tahoe or something similar if I trade and I doubt I would use it more than 2 or 3 times a year. I would probably loan it out to friends more than I would use it. The reason I am looking at trailers is that we are thinking about riding the Oregon-N. California coast next year and to make that practical from a time standpoint I would probably need to tow the bikes to Butte, MT or Salt Lake City. Dennis

I'm thinking about buying a V-nose enclosed trailer to haul the bike in occaisionally and I am not sure of what size I would need. While I would carry only one bike most of the time I would like to be able to carry two at times. I have no experience with enclosed trailers. So I would like to tap into the experiences here to determine what the smallest size that I could get by with to carry two tour bikes? Dennis

Anyone familiar with antique cut glass and crystal values?
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Watering Hole
Thanks Lonna, We're meeting with a couple of dealers this week and I have sent emails to several online dealers soliciting bids. We'll see where this leads. It would probably be easier if I just pick the books up locally. Can you give me the titles? Thanks, Dennis -
Anyone familiar with antique cut glass and crystal values?
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Watering Hole
I contacted a local dealer and had him look at the collection. He said he was interested in a few of the pieces and that he would get back to me with a value and he has not. The whole time there he kept talking about how bad the market is that people weren't buying glass anymore. I don't expect much from him. I've thought of trying to sell on EBAY but I've heard stories of scammers buying a piece from you while they already have the same piece with a flaw. They recieve yours and then try to return the damaged one to you claiming you shipped them the flawed piece. Plus, it's just too many pieces to have to deal with in that manner. Dennis -
I know this isn't bike related but maybe someone can help me. A few weeks ago my mother passed away and my brother and I are starting to clear up the estate. My mother collected Fostoria and various other crystal and cut glass pieces. My brother and I know nothing about this stuff or how to value it. We spent today photographing each piece and I have uploaded those photos to my web site. They can be seen at: www.traynorphoto.com/momscrystal We know there are some valuable pieces and some that are not. However, we don't know which is which. We are reluctant to send the items to an auction house because we would hate to see a $600 pitcher go for $6. Does anyone have any idea how to find the true value on these items or how best to sell them? Our intent with the photos was to just email dealers and offer the pieces up for sale and ask for offers. We're just sort of overwhelmed by the number of pieces mom had. Thanks, Dennis

I use both an Iphone and Zumo 550 and there is no problem synching up to the GPS. My main complaint with the Iphone is poor phone signal strength. I lose the phone signal in all but the strongest areas. I can be in a restaurant with no service on my phone and my wife's phone will have 4 bars showing on her Razr phone which is also on ATT. I lose phone service quickly in remote areas. Dennis

Mine works fine without an amp. As Midnight mentioned check the MP3 volume settings. You may have a cable problem somewhere. Can you test something else plugged into the aux port? Maybe an Ipod. DT

The bike just died for no reason today
Midrsv replied to Midrsv's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
We just made it home with no more problems. But I'm still worried about the fuel pump and I plan to talk to the dealer about that this week. Dennis -

Ok, we made it to Nashville today with no problems other than the blasted heat. Where is the fuel pump located? I don't have my manual with me. I need to put it on this laptop. I stopped at a Yamaha shop today to see if they could help me with a fuel filter. I explained I was from out of town and had had a problem and they quickly told me that their mechanics were already booked for today. I had them check for a filter and I would install it on the side of the road if I had to. No luck there either. Won't be going back there. Dennis
