  1. It may not have been the dealer that prepped the bike for sale. My dealer uses a service that preps the bike and then delivers it ready for sale. I asked him about that and being a small dealer with only one or two mechanics he said he couldn't afford to have his mechanic tied up assembling bikes. So when he orders a bike it is shipped to the company that does the prep work and then they deliver it to the dealer. That's still no excuse for the shoddy workmanship. About that shifter bolt, do make sure it's got loctite on it. I lost a mine a few hundred miles from home and noticed it when I got the top of an exit ramp and couldn't feel the shifter to down shift. Fortunately the shifter was resting on the floorboard and I was able to wire tie it in place for the next few hundred miles unitl I could get a new screw. DT
  2. For the most part I don't mind a little wind. But when it gets down below 40 degrees I like to block it as much as possible. I often ride in the twenties. Dennis
  3. I have a 20 x 30 garage with insulation and I use a 18,000 btu kerosene heater and it keeps it comfortable. I have about 10 ft ceilings and I light the heater an hour or so before I want to work in the garage in the coldest months. DT
  4. The midnight models have chrome fork and triple tree and handlebar switch housings are also chromed. DT
  5. Since I rarely ride at night I use them mainly to be seen better. Dennis
  6. BJB, I use the Harley Davidson route planner to build my routes, http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/Ride_Planner/Ride_Planner.jsp?locale=en_US&bmLocale=en_US With the Garmin communicator installed on you computer the ride planner site has an option to download the route to your GPS. If you need the communicator program it can be downloaded from Garmin at the following link. http://www8.garmin.com/products/communicator/ It works great with my Zumo. I know nothing about your unit but it should be easy enough to try it out. When building a route you need to add enough waypoints to force the GPS to follow your planned route. If you just enter start and end points the GPS will take you the way it thinks is best. To get around that you just right click and add waypoints along the way at the turns you want to take and the gps will connect the dots. DT
  7. That's a nice deal. I have one on my bike. DT
  8. What do you think of these as passing lamp replacements? http://www.superiorlighting.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=DL-PAR36-LED_60_W&Click=38 Dennis
  9. One more thing I forgot to mention was the price. While the Venture's MSRP is right up there with the others it can be bought heavily discounted. I paid $13,800 out the door for a new '07. Try doing that with any of the others. Dennis
  10. OK, I'll add a couple of comments. I tour and I commute to work on my bike. We generally take a 4,000 mile trip each year and several weekend trips. I've ridden Wings and Ultra Classics and both are good bikes they just don't work for me. I'm not tall and I can't get comfortable on a Wing. The peg position kills my knees. It's got a great engine and handling though. The Ultra Classic is great for slow speed handling and pretty comfortable. However, I find it too cramped and feel like I'm setting on the handle bar. If you plan on touring with a passenger they will be dissapointed with the passenger comfort. It is really cramped. Also, I don't find the Ultra good for high speed riding, 75+ mph. Heat, the Ultra is terrible for commuting in city traffic. You get cooked sitting on the air cooled engine. I rode a Venture for 45,000 miles and totaled it. That gave me the opportunity to look at other bikes when replacing it. I looked primarily at Wings, Ultra Classics and the K1200LT. In my opinion when you buy a bike you have to make compromises and you just have to pick what is important to you and your riding style. For me I wanted water cooling and forward controls and that brought me back to the Venture. After 38,000 miles on my "new" Venture I haven't regretted it at all. And a bonus for me is that my wife thinks the passenger comfort is the best on the Venture. Sure, I would like more power, lighter weight, better slow speed handling, etc. But to get those I would probably have to give up on other features that I like. I'll stick with the Venture for now. Dennis P.S. On a 600 mile day my riding buddies on Wings and Ultra's are ready to stop long before I am.
  11. Still doing research on the subject.... http://www.fleetsafety.com/Whelen-PAR36-200-Series-4-Inch-Round-LED-Lighthead-283 http://www.yStioutube.com/watch?v=JVgcM5Zacbo&feature=player_embedded

  13. These LED boards have screw mount connectors, is that the same as our bulbs? Also, wouldn't we need some type of cover or lens over the led's? Dennis
  14. Now that's what I had in mind. How do we adapt them to our lamp housings. I'm game to give them a try. Dennis
  15. I was thinking of a round board with maybe 50 to 60 LEDs. They could even be amber colored. Dennis
  16. After reading the discussion in other threads about how to make yourself visible I got to thinking about passing lamps. Some of the LED cluster boards that you replace your turn signal and brake light with are very bright and I've noticed the new Audi's have LED daytime running lights that are very visible. So, I started wondering if a LED cluster board retrofitted into a passing lamp would be brighter than existing bulbs? I know they wouldn't be good for lighting the path but they may be more visible. Does anyone make such a thing? Would it be brighter? Dennis
  17. '07 with 36,500. Hope to ride it a couple of more seasons and then trade with 75k on it. DT
  18. Just got home from a 210 mile ride through eastern KY. Great day. Dennis
  19. It's been a light year for me, about 17,500. I usually do about 20,000 DT
  20. Brian, Thanks for the photos. That helps me understand the connection. I noticed from your photos that the wiring for the lights seems to run under the draw bar. Can the wires be routed inside the bar? My Unigo wiring runs inside the bar. I've sent a note to tag along address requesting a quote but didn't hear anything today. Dennis
  21. Brian, Could you post a close-up photo of the hitch coupler for the trailer. From the photos it appears to be something other than a typical ball coupler. Thanks, Dennis
  22. Sling, I've been looking at that trailer also as a replacement or addition to my Unigo. I'm beginning to think I would prefer a 2 wheel trailer but I don't want one that will carry as much as my truck. Just unigo size or slightly larger and I still want one that will go through a hotel door and I think your trailer fits that. Can you post some photos of the interior? How would it look if ordered in black and then only paint the lid to match the bike? Still keeping 2 tone. In my case blue and black. Thanks, Dennis
  23. With a heated jacket liner, lined jeans and dry roads I'll ride to work as long as it's above 25 degrees. The Tourmaster jacket liner keeps me toasty. It's 34 here this morning so it will be a bit chilly without the lined jeans. DT
  24. I guess scamming isn't limited to Ebay. I've been looking for a new or nearly new Tahoe and found a nice sounding deal on Autotrader with the truck advertised to be in Huntington, WV. I emailed a couple of questions last night and tried calling today, number not working should have been my first clue. This evenging I get the following email response which didn't answer either of my questions. Needless to say I provided him a few words in response. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Hi Dennis, The car is still for sale. The asking price is $28,800. It is located in Belleair Beach, FL and the VIN is 1GNFK13078R247309. The car is registered on my name and the title is clear (no lien). It is in great condition, no dents or scratches. It was always garaged and the regular maintenance was done in time. It wasn't involved in any accident and has never suffered any kind of damage. Also this is a non-smoker car. If you have any questions regarding the car or you want extra photos or the CARFAX report (for free) just let me know! I'm a pilot on cargo flights. My wife broke up with me recently because I'm always away from home. We just sold our house and split the money. This is the last thing I need to sell and split the money with her. Because I'm away most of the time I will not be able to deal in person. But I've already arranged the shipping and the title transfer anywhere in the US. I will pay the shipping fees. I want the payment to be handled by MSN Autos. They will keep the money until you will receive and inspect the car. You will have 7 days of inspection period. If the car is not like described you will have to ship it back on my expense and they will give you a full refund. This way, you will be able to inspect the vehicle before committing to buy it and I know that you have the money and you aren't just fooling around. Giving the nature of this transaction please note that my sale terms are final and nonnegotiable. In order to move forward I will need your full name, address and phone number. I don't want to offend you, but the car is priced for a fast sale so please if you intend to apply for a loan or financing do not reply to this message! Chris Larsen."
  25. I have an LED tailight board and I don't think mine is from Custom Dynamics. I believe it is a Radianz and I don't recall where I ordered it from but here is a link to the same one. http://www.bikerhiway.com/radiantz-led-tail-light-for-yamaha-road-star-and-vstar-p-176.html It has 3 white LEDs at the top for the license plate illumination and I don't think the one from Custom Dynamics has that. It is very bright and I feel it has enhanced the rear lighting. I did recently add the CD turn signal LED boards and they are very bright as well. They annoy my riding buddies when they are behind me when I signal. Thanks to Bummer for turning me on to those. Dennis
