The only vacuum gauge I remember seeing was in my dad's '65 Chevy Impala SS. It was about a 4" diameter gauge built into the dash and I would watch it drop to near zero when he would kick it. I would love to have that car today. Dennis

My dealer in Richmond, KY, I-75 Yamaha has a used '08 Raven Charcoal on the showroom floor. About 2000 miles on it with several accessories and I think they were asking either $12k or $13k for it. Dennis

OK, I pulled the trigger. New to me '09 Tahoe LTZ with 6.2L. It runs! I picked it up in Bowling Green, KY and drove to Nashville, about 60 miles and it average 17.5 mpg running 75 to 80. If that kind of mileage holds up I'm satisfied. Dennis

Bestem Bag for Trunk Rack - size/shape question
Midrsv replied to bamico's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The trunk bag fits and works well. However, I do put a bungi cord around it in addition to the velcro straps. Dennis -
Ditto what Steve said. I got the same lights after seeing his. Annoyingly bright which I like. Dennis

Deb and Gary, You've already been given some great advice. I'm don't know your schedule but I would like to invite you to join us Memorial Weekend. See http://www.venturerider.org/forum/calendar.php?do=getinfo&e=164&day=2010-5-28&c=1 If you make it to the central KY area I would be happy to show you around if I'm available. There are several day trips you can make out of Lexington and I can help map those out for you. Dennis

Here's an update. I dropped the bike off at the dealer last week and they were ordering whatever parts were needed to repair it. The dealer mentioned that the service rep stated that he hadn't heard of this issue before and he asked the dealer if I rode it hard on rough roads. I hope to get it back in a week or so with a new fairing. Dennis

With my current 5.3 I only get 12 to 13 mpg around town and on the highway it will get about 15.5 to 16. Now I admit I run a couple of MPH over the limit. Towing a single bike on a trailer to FL I only get 11 to 12 running the speed limits and it seems like I've always got my foot in it. It down shifts at the first hint of a grade. It almost does that without a trailer. I was hoping that with more torque and a 6 speed it won't be under as much strain and maybe get equal mileage. When I did an Autotrader search I only found 1 Tahoe with the 6.2 engine within 300 miles so they must not be too popular. Since I commute on the bike as much as possible I only put about 10,000 to 12,000 miles on the truck each year so mileage isn't going to kill me. I'm more worried about reliability. Dennis

I'm close to making a deal on a slightly used '09 Tahoe LTZ with the 6.2L (395 HP) engine and 6 speed transmission. I've currently got an '03 Tahoe with the 5.3 and I am used to poor mileage. Will the 6.2 mileage be much less? When I test drove it I checked the trip meter for average MPG and it was a bit higher than the average on my '03. The LTZ is a nice package with lots of buttons. Are there any other issues I should be concerned about. Thanks, Dennis

In your opinion, what are the top five states to motorcycle in?
Midrsv replied to Sunrayman's topic in Watering Hole
Here's my list: Utah, Colorado, Montana, N. Carolina and my home state of KY. Definitely not: Kansas, Nebraska -
I recently pulled the chrome trim off the fairing and found that the plastic around 4 of the 6 windshield mounting holes was cracked completely through. I emailed my dealer photos and he said to bring it in and they'll replace the fairing and anything else related to the problem. Off to the dealer tomorrow. Anyone else had this problem? Dennis

Ok, I'll add my 2 cents. The last time I changed my tires I did a static balance using the crude tool that came with my tire mounter. I never felt I had the balance right so rather than taking the tires off again and taking them to be spun, I removed the weights and but 2 bags of beads in each tire. Problem solved. Much smoother after the beads. Here's a theory on the spin balance test. I'm not sure how fast a balancer spins the wheel but I thought it was relatively slow, maybe less than 40 mph. At those speed we probably wouldn't notice an out of balance condition and it may be that the beads don't start to work until they reach higher speeds, say 50 to 60 mph. Therefore, the spin balancer may not have spun them fast enough. Just a theory and it's probably wrong. I have a couple of friends also using them with success. Dennis

I just placed a new event on the VR calendar. After the success of last year's Central KY VR weekend Valerie and I would like to host the event again this year. I know we had a great time last year and met some new friends and we hope to do it again this year. I expect we'll follow a similar format and meet for dinner on Friday evening followed by rides on Saturday and Sunday. And depending on departure schedules we may be able to do something on Monday. Once we get an idea on the number of people coming I'll see what I can do about a group rate at one of the hotels. Here are a couple of links to discussions about last year's weekend and a few photos: http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32094&highlight=central+weekend http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36100&highlight=central+weekend We look forward to seeing everyone in May. I have these on my bike. They fit perfectly but I really can't say that I noticed any difference in the vibration. For that matter, I didn't notice an difference when I took the stock weights off. Dennis

Her you go, my wife and I from a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the suggestions. This fire department is a volunteer outfit that has a few part time paid positions. They do have a $100k plus training center and from what I understand they are very well trained with very good equipment. They just spent a pile of money on a new 85' ladder truck. I won't be a firefighter, too old and fat for that job. But I'll damn sure do my best to see that they are safe and cheer them on every chance I get. Dennis

I just got myself appointed to the county volunteer fire board by the County Judge Executive. Hopefully I can help improve fire service and obtain the best value for our tax dollars. I may come here from time to time seeking advice from the member fire fighters. About all I know about fire fighting is to call 911. Wish me luck! Dennis

At least a dozen times a day. I'm addicted and I admit it and, my wife will verfiy it because she told me so. But it does keep me out of the bars. Dennis

After reading and hearing of the many of the acts of kindness here and elsewhere it made me take stock of my own position in life. My wife and I are fairly comfortable with decent jobs. I lost my mother this year and my father last year and I think of them often. A few days ago I started think of what "act of kindness" I could do that would truly make a difference in a small way to someone. I decided that I wanted to help and senior person in order to honor my parents. So yesterday I decided I wanted to help someone with their heating bill. So I contacted a local propane dealer and spoke with a very nice customer service rep and inquired if she new of a senior that was struggling to pay their heat bill and could I help. She said that they hear storys all the time from people struggling to pay their bill. I think she thought I was a crackpot. So today at lunch I went to the gas company's address only to find that it was merely a gas tank. I called again and their real office was in a town 25 miles away. I paused for a moment and then headed to their office. She seemed to surprised when I asked for her to help me. She got on the phone with other customer reps and they came up with a 70+ year old widow that takes care of her mother in her home and they struggle to pay the heat bill with very little left over each month. I didn't ask for their name nor did I provide mine. I left $400 with rep and asked that she apply it to the lady's bill and to tell her Merry Christmas. Boy did I feel good on the way home. I pledge to slow down and do more "acts of kindness" in the new year. I hope you do too. Merry Christmas! Dennis

Yeah, I knew that but I just didn't like the screen height resolution. I just carry my 15" laptop when I travel. Dennis

Better go try one out at the store first. I thought one would be a good idea to carry on trips. I bought a Dell netbook at Sams. I brought it home and loaded it up with software and I couldn't get used to the small screen. Not so much the size but the resolution. Instead of being 1024 x 768 it was 1024 x 570 or so. So you only got to see about 2/3rds of the data on a normal screen. When browsing the internet I was constantly scrolling because the menu bars took up the top third of the screen. It drove me crazy. I returned it after a few days. Your mileage may vary. Dennis

This is why I don't like others working on my bikes....

Thanks Bummer, I found that out after I got home from that trip. I should have mentioned it. Dennis
