  1. I use this same setup,works great!!
  2. Sun Valley lodging is fairly pricey,Stanley is more reasonable and more central to the good stuff. .The Sun Valley-Stanley-Challis-Craters of the Moon loop is about 325 miles. Can always run the river road to Salmon for a day,Challis for eateries and hot pool or up to Idaho City and the Springs Resort (google it).. All my playground,I think you would like it!!
  3. Red Lodge, it's only a few hours ride to the Big Horn Recreation area and then on to the Big Horn mtns, which I personally enjoy more than the BT hiway!
  4. Seafoam,I call it bike geritol. It saved my 86 from a carb rebuild!
  5. I have tried different trailers over the years and am very happy with my 6x12 enclosed cargo trailer with rear ramp, which I beefed up to handle over the rated 1000lbs cap.Keeps my bike out of the weather and road grime. Picked this trailer up used for $2.ooo

  10. Just returned form GNP Saturday, it is beautiful right now.if you are looking for a good hotel near the park,we stayed in Hungry Horse (west side)at the Mini Golden Inn, it was a real decent place, the folks there were very helpful and even delivered a bag of bike cleaning towels to our room, about 118.00 a night.. We did find the Rangers in the Park to be a bit over zealous in handling a couple of Canadian bikers, several bikes got behind a real slow mini motor home and first gear wasn't slow enough to keep moving, these two lead the charge around them on a solid dbl line and got busted. Oh and because the older biker was so upset, after he pocketed his citation he got confused and went out the entrance, pass the DO Not enter sign, oops! The Ranger started blowing his whistle and chased him down on foot and started chewing him out all over again,I felt sorry for the old boy. Park pass is 25$ per bike, buy the annual pass for 35$ which allows two bikes through for a year, save 15$
  11. I am experiencing an air leak in the rear air system on my 86. I have not tore anything apart just yet, headed out on a week long trip in two days,. When the compressor pumps to the selected pressure it stops ,then I hear a leak before the valve shuts and the air pressure is gone. Just thought I would share a shut term fix. When the compressor just about stops at the desired setting, I turn the key to on,which shuts it down,I go about my business or even start up and ride, somehow the valve closes on its own with out losing air,and holds just fine for several days. works every time. Don't ask me to explain how.
  12. Two lane road, rural setting,The bikes were staggered in the correct lane, most of the time doing about 50-55mph,speed limit 65mph,with so much oncoming traffic, impossible to pass all of them at once, except the car that chanced it and made it,I followed them for about 5 miles with cars stacking up behind me. I thought the back three bikes were moving to the right of the lane to allow me to pass,so I did, then ran into a road block. In Idaho it is perfectly acceptable to share a lane on a bike and even ride side by side if you are crazy enough. The frustrated cars were taking it out on little old innocent me, tail gating swinging out into the oncoming lane looking for a hole. This road did not have a decent shoulder or turn out for the 5 miles,I did find one eventually and pulled off. I guess my thoughts are a group should at least try and ride the speed limit, then there would be no reason to try and pass.
  13. How do you group riders ride to allow traffic to flow around you? My wife and I were riding Saturday and came upon a group of fifteen Harley riders, their speed ranged form 50 MPH to 70ish in a 65MPH zone. I was real frustrated trying to get around them with fairly heavy traffic.I am used to the line riders moving to the right and allowing another bike to pass the group,They would not budge, I made it around four of them and then would have been trapped for 20 miles. I did not want to be in their group and it was obvious they did not want me there, but like I said they would not move over. In my younger and not so smart ego days, I would have weaved in and out until I made it through. Cars were stacked up behind this group, and one finely blew past everyone including me.This was a bad situation so we pulled over and waited the mess out. What is right here? or wrong?
  14. Also tested a RM, but, until the seat issue is fixed and the paint issue and the heat issue are fixed,I am not forking out 30K
  15. Your ability and confidence, will shift to your passenger, they will sense it,feel it and react to it. In essence they will do what they feel you do,from correctly leaning to incorrectly tensing up at the wrong time. First you need to become one with the bike, then take on a passenger and teach them, then you two have to become one with each other. I started taking my daughters for rides on my dirt bike at an early age. I took them on my road bike when they turned eight years old, starting with short rides and then a daddy -daughter camping bike weekend every summer from then on. You should have seen the look on their college room mate faces when I would pick them up..Now we all ride together, along with two son-in-laws. These are times that make life everything! Go for it, do it right and be safe. R2m
