OK thanks because I have both and was just wondering why it was bigger since they really didn't change until the 86? With the 1300 cc motor. Thunder -

Carb popping, why???
thunder1295 replied to thunder1295's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Good new's, been a long process getting the bike to run perfect, after changing plugs, cleaning all connections going to the tci and pick up coils, trimming the coil wires and screwing the plug caps on again, sync the carb's, adjust the pilot screws, still didn't run right, cylinder would still cut out after 10 miles or when it got warmed up good from idle to 3000rpm. What was left to do, move the tci onto the airbox, nope. came across a thread about the YICS, sure enough one hose attached to it pretty well fell off when I pulled on the hose, not sure what shape the rest of the plastic box YICS was in so I by passed it. Cut off all the hoses capped them, re sync the carb's and pilots took it out for a good long run and "WOW" not one miss, runs as smooth as glass, couldn't be happier. Get rid of that YICS, had that on my 750XJ and it was a huge pain on that bike to. Like to say a big thanks to everybody that joined in to help me solve this problem. Great site. Hope this might help another member solve their problem if their bike is running the way mine was. Thunder -
Carb popping, why???

I had the air box back on when I syn the carbs and tested for leaks, like I said running much better now, when I ride it I'll know for sure. Thanks -
Carb popping, why???
thunder1295 replied to thunder1295's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes there was popping before, 1 of the YICS hose was broken off the plastic box, so I figured I just by pass that, cut the hoses short and put in 8mm bolts with little bit of high temp gasket maker., Then I sprayed the carb cleaner on the manifolds no leaks, syn the carbs and adjusted the pilot screws. Running much better now, no popping and it fired right up today and it was 0 outside, never did that before I be cranking away on the starter. Still have to take it for a spin to really find out how it's running, hope all is good. Thunder. -
Carb popping, why???

What I did was block off the YICS ports and took off the air breather cover, sprayed carb cleaner on the intake manifolds and the bike didn't rev up stayed the same, don't think there are any leaks on the carb's, any other reason's it might be doing that? Thanks -
Wondering what makes a carb pop or back fire, had the air breather off and on occasion number 1 and 3 carb pops. Is it because its running rich? Plugs are new.

Plasti dip on carb dia.
thunder1295 replied to thunder1295's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks found that out little late, didn't think it would go on that thick, sure do look nice, like new.lol -
Thought I'd pass this info on, I had a few tiny wholes in the carb dia. and used plastic dip to seal them. Sprayed on 4 light coats, the stuff works great except the dia won't flex like before, little to stiff, the springs don't have enough force to move them back down after opening the throttle. I suggest the most 2 light coats. Time for some new ones. Hope this helps some member's out. Thunder.

Pilot screws were not to far off the 2 1/2 turns out except 1 which was out about 6, turned that back in, syn the carb's again and it running good. Thanks for the help. -

Excellent, didn't feel like taking off the carb's, hope adjusting them will solve the problem of the motor dropping a cylinder when the rpm's are under 2500. I synchronized the carb's without the pilot screw, hope adjusting them fixes the problem. Keep you posted. Thanks -

Thanks I will try that, hope it's not the TCI. Another question, it looks to me on the diagram of the carb's that I can get to the pilot screw without having to remove the carbs and if need be I can remove the factory caps they put on in order to clean and adjust them, is this correct????? -
Hello, I got a 85 royal with 75 k's on it the problem I'm having with the bike is once I ride it 15 or more miles it begins to drop a cylinder under 3000rpm, it sputters, feather the throttle and get it above 3 grand it starts running on all cylinders. Starts right up when cold and hot. Any ideas what the problem could be???? Sure would be a big help, thanks in advance Thunder
