  1. some folks use flanders bars to bring them closer. http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/p20.htm
  2. Wow thanks for the update.. so glad he is OK and it shows that wearing the gear makes a difference
  3. I got in almost exactly midnight.. Great weekend and GREAT people.. Met some new friends and had an AWESOME time.. Rained about half the way home and after dark that was NOT FUN but the rest of the trip was a blast.. Really enjoyed the cooler air and fresh scents once the rain started.. ALL IS GOOD
  4. I did the 2nd gear fix on my 84 a couple of years ago and yes you can see the split washer in that picture. mine had a groove worn in it that shifted everything just enough that 2nd would not completely engage. I believe if you change that split washer #6 in the diagram. BEFORE any damage is done then you would be good to go
  5. Yup he's getting a little long in the tooth
  6. They usually start to go around 70 or 80,000 Kms.. If you do it before it starts to come out then all you have to replace is the split washer. You will also need a gasket set and the engine has to come out. In my opinion if you are planning on keeping the bike it is a worthwhile investment in time.. If you wait till it starts popping out then you may have to replace gears and shift forks or at least back cut the gears.. Frustration is that you can SEE the split washer when you take the side cover off but cannot get to it without pulling and splitting the engine
  7. That looks like the coolant hose.. 5/16" might be a tad small.. Could probably match it up at an auto store and cut to fit..
  8. What is it? Make? Model? Year? Cruising speed? engine size? Very Kool.. Would be awesome for just getting around town..
  9. The drain plug should have a crush washer and it could be missing or bad..
  10. Wow breakfast at Casablanca for 8:30 sounds good.. I'll be there.. Wait that means getting up real early and getting on the road by 7:30.. hmmmmm not use to dragging this sorry old body out of the sack that early.. I'll still be there .. you guys are worth it..
  11. Personally I think it is something you will grow into if you give it enough time. My bike (20 years ago) was a Virago and I had the opportunity to ride one a little while ago after riding my 1st gen for a few years and many miles. Could not wait to get off the virago and back on my steed. When I got back on the old 84 it was like coming home.. I've ridden wings from the same era and there is no comparison. I wanted a long distance runner with storage and found the 1st gen to be the best in that category by far.. Comfy? check.. Fun to ride? check.. Dependable? check Toys? check Handling? (for a touring bike) check. etc. Not to mention the very best community on the WEB.. So give it some time..
  12. Sweet!
  13. Man it sucks to wake up to news like this.. Rick I'm praying you heal completely.. Not to worry about US but just get better and do what the Drs say
  14. This is what I use and works well.. http://www.rammount.com/part/RAM-B-132RU
  15. Larry (Carbon One) sells them.. Fantastic piece of work if you do your own maintenance.. Heck I use it when I want to do a good cleaning.. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/photopost/showproduct.php?product=15&title=carbon-one-freestanding-lift-adapter&cat=15
  16. Man this is bad news.. Robin and I are praying for the lord's intervention.. Heal quickly my friend
  17. Holy Cow!! A left side lower Cowling just came up on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/XVZ1300-Royal-Star-Venture-1999-Verkleidung-Abdeckung-fairing-cowling-cover-Neu-/360476455469?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item53ee12322d&vxp=mtr From Germany and from a 99.. Must be made of Gold or some rare material.. New from Mama Yama they run around $250 U.S.
  18. Here is one on eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/99-Yamaha-XVZ1300-XVZ-1300-Venture-Royal-Star-side-kick-stand-/400823737710?hash=item5d52f4dd6e&vxp=mtr
  19. Thanks Tisunac but the only one I can find on there right now is for a right side for $240 and I need a left side. There is another one with both sides for $250 with a broken tab.. But I need the left side only and can get brand new for $250 from Yamaha.. Not in a big hurry as I can ride so gonna try and wait for something to come up..
  20. Mine has 182,000 Kms on it and I intend to get another 180,000 Kms on it without problems.. They come new with 5 year unlimited mile warranty so my guess is 100K without major problems is a snap. Oil changes and tires.. proper maintenance.. it will be a dependable bike
  21. Ok Update: The bike is back together enough to ride.. From a distance it looks fine. Up close you can pick out the damage. ordered a new crash bar and air box bracket. Ordering an F4 Windshield. (Don loaned me an OEM shield till my new one comes in - Thanks Don. Gonna have to get some stuff painted over the winter.. Still looking for the left lower fairing (Any Color)
  22. THAT is one KOOL looking machine.. I'm betting a hoot to drive as well
  23. so the extent of the damage is getting larger as I delve into this. Now I'm in need of the left side engine crash bar as well as the left side driver floor board support bracket (cast piece that attaches to the frame and holds the floor board)
  24. Carl: Thanks for the offer and I MIGHT take you up on that depending on what I find today.. It's up on the Carbon One stand right now and I'm taking it apart to find the extent of the damage.. Got some brackets to get straight if possible.. etc.. Working on it this morning..
  25. So the brother in law is visiting from Australia. I borrowed a friends RSV and loaned my Brother in Law MY RSVMM and off we go. He is a rider and we took it easy. Was a VERY nice day and was a GREAT ride for awhile. After going through an S bend I looked in my mirror and he wasn't there any more.. Not even fast through the S bend.. Anyhow turned around and headed back to find him and my Bike in a corn field on it's left side. He is walking around trying to figure out what to do. Good news is he is fine. Bruise on his should and gonna be sore tomorrow but we believe he will be OK. Bad news is the bike is damaged. Broken Windshield Cracks in the center of the fairing (cannot figure that one out) left lower fairing is busted. brackets holding that fairing on are bent pretty good. scratches on the tank, fairing, trunk and trunk arm rest. Carbon One bracket for the engine guard is broken Trunk seems to be just a little off center now So looking for a Windshield (Don loaned me his OEM until I replace mine.) Had a Clearview XLarge with vent. Is the F4 better? Does anyone have a something good that they have replaced? Looking for lower left fairing.. Anyone? Larry? I need a new left bracket for the engine guard Guess I also need to do some plastic repair and paint.. All the chrome so far looks OK.. dirt does less damage than pavement..
