If you are only using 4 wires to a 4 pin connector you need an adapter. The scoot has separate signals from the brakes. More like a european setup.
-
Maritimer: It looks to me like you need one each for the driver and the passenger. It appears that it would only control the unit that it was inline with. Maybe Jercoupe can elaborate on that.
-
Thanks for the input Jercoupe: That looks like an excellent alternative to the mic mutes if they cannot be fitted to the 1st gen. I'm still wondering if the ones selling for the 2nd gen can be retrofitted to the 1st gen. That way everything is out of site and we use the PTT buttons. Need to get two of these ones to keep the Navigator happy. Also with these you need to reach for them to turn the mic on and off. The PTT button is at my fingertip without letting go of the handle bars.
-
I was just wondering if anyone has been able to get the Mic Mutes to work on a 1st gen and how hard that is to do? Seems I'm getting some wind noise from the Navigators headset. She has a Modular helmet and I think with her shield open the wind is buffeting around the chin bar. Mine is a 3/4 helmet and there is no noise at all from it. Wayne

What is this plug??
Wizard765 replied to Squidley's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Maybe an optional plug for a lighter. Seems to be in the right vicinity and could reach if one was installed. -
Maritimer: I've only had mine installed for a week now and 1000 Kms but I think they are a great. I'm having fun and being able to communicate with others riding with me is AWSOME!! Communications with the Navigator is much easier now. I don't use them much for music but have tried that and they leave much to be desired for that purpose. The sound is somewhat tinny and very little bass response. If that is the main purpose I'd spring more money for a better set. I'm sure someone here will pipe in with some recommendations for that. Hi Guys and Gals: I found a chrome bumper with lots of lights on eBay and purchased it. So far I think it is pretty good and is cleaning up nice. I have one problem though. There are two "U" bolts that I need for installing this thing. They go around the saddle bag roll bars and hold up the front of the bumper. I believe the originals are chrome and flattened on top. Does anyone have these animals or know where I could find something like this? Wayne

We have a WADDLE
Wizard765 replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Here we go with an update: I now have a little over 1100 Kms on these new tires. Was out all day today but riding 2 up and not fast enough. Loved the way the bike handled and rode. Last night had high speed runs two up but passengers were heavier than my wife (Robin) and no sign of a problem. When I got home tonight I dropped Robin off and took it out for a spin solo. The wobble is still there and very scary at 140 Kms. Sure hope we can figure this out. Still waiting to see how Carl makes out after the rebalance. Does anyone know if the amount of air in the shocks will make a difference? Maybe there is too much air in the tires. The Avons have a 100 lb higher rating than other tires so maybe when I'm solo (under 200 lbs) I should have less air in the tires?? Maybe I'll try that tomorrow after church if it's not raining. We have a WADDLE
Wizard765 replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My bike had the swing arm out and new bushings all around. Greased and replaced as well as small holes drilled for future lubrication. Everything was put back together with the torques set to what the book says. The only common issue here is that we both got new Avons and had them installed and balanced at the same place. We took in the wheels. Another note to add. This evening I took a few of my daughters freinds for rides. One of the girls wanted to go "faster" so I got it up to 140 kms for quite a spell and no sign of the wobble. Also hit 150 for a short time and again no problem. This is all on back roads because there is no hwy near me. So extra weight on the scoot makes a difference. Now I need to go and do another solo spin. In the morning I'm going to try it out again. Maybe the tires need to be "broken in" I've now got about 800 Kms on them. Wayne -
We have a WADDLE

OK.. Last night I rode with the navigator for the first time since the new tires were put on. It either eliminated the problem or moved it up to a higher speed that I didn't get to. Without a passenger it starts very slightly around 110 Kms and gets very noticable around 120 Kms. At 140 it's downright interesting. With the passenger at 120 Kms it was gone. I don't have a clue what this means but thought I'd throw this in the pot for you guys to ponder a bit. I'm very much looking forward to Carls ride this afternoon and his results. If we don't get this solved we won't be able to make any long hwy rides such as Maintenance Day.... Wayne -
One tranny re-build in the books
Wizard765 replied to Ozmonster's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thanks Ozzie: I'm hoping that there will be no damage by that time so maybe all I'll have to replace is the washer. Would love to have you over to help at some point. Thanks also for the tip on the source for parts. Yes I'd like your list. Wayne -
One tranny re-build in the books

Carl, Marca, Wayne and Robin ride together fairly often. Marca and Robin really enjoy each others company. Keeping the ladies happy is a very important concept. With this thought in mind... I'll most likely be wanting to do the 2nd gear issue next winter BEFORE I have a problem with it. It's not like there won't eventually be a problem. IF I tackle it on my own there is a good chance I wouldn't be riding it again so IF we want to keep the ladies happy together it would be in Carl's best interest to help me. How is that for Strong Arm Tactics?? -
Thank you Rocket for your reply. Carl: I am probably going to go that way. BUT just before I do that I have one more thing to try. In that box of stuff I also got another extension with two plugs on it. I was considering cutting up the cables and combining into one good one with solder and shrink tubing. I don't know if breaking the shield in the middle like that will have a negative effect. I'll do that before Wednesday and try it out on the way to your place then I'll know. I like the idea of new ones though and I could get the clips that hold the ends at the same time. Plus it looks like they have caps on them to protect when not in use. Wayne

Hi Folks: I need some help with my CB / Headset project. I have it pretty much completed. From a 90 I was able to acquire a complete CB and radio system which I have been wireing and mounting into my 84. Has been an interesting project and I feel fairly successfull. All is now working except for the drivers headset. I only get sound from one side. After much deliberation and head scratching not to mention testing and testing I've narrowed it down to one pin in the cable that comes from the radio inside the fairing to where I plug my headset in isn't working. Cleaning etc fails to get it working sooooo Does anyone have one of those cables they would be willing to part with?? Wayne

Hi Folks: Does anyone know if the antenna mount from an 86 or newer will fit or bolt up to an 84 trunk bracket? The 86 has an S bend in it that lends nicely to having a right angle adapter in place while the 84 is just a straight pipe. Wayne

Actually I believe that feature is a free addon called image resizer powertoy http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/digitalphotography/learnmore/tips/eschelman2.mspx It's a great tool and I use it all the time. You can choose a size or custom make a size. You can create a new file or change the size of the original. All from within windows. It will do 1 at a time or as many as you want to highlight at a time. Wayne
