  1. Thanks guys for the replys. The bottom line is that there is NO relay and the problem is the switch itself. Cleaning the contacts in the switch is the solution. I'll be doing that and using it often to keep it working. This place is AWSOME!!! Wayne
  2. Ok folks.. need some help here. Out on the weekend for about 1300 Kms. At one point stopped to stretch etc. Went to get started and the engine won't turn over. Found out that I'd hit the kill switch to off with my helmet. So I turned it back to run and still nothing. I rocked it a few times and at one point I heard a click inside the bike. After that it started and I had no more problems. Is there a relay or something attached to the kill switch? How do I prevent this from happening again? I never use that switch (except accidentally) HELP?? Wayne
  3. Hi James:: I'm feeling somewhat guilty and out of sorts about this coming Saturday. I so want to help out but that day just won't work for me. Carl and I have talked it over and we both want to do something to help out. We are planning on coming down to his place either the following Wednesday or the following Saturday. So if some stuff is not done or there is another list we would love to do those things. At the very least we will be able to visit with Bob and try to boost his spirits. Both Carl and I and our families will be praying for him and Becky as well. Please let us know if there is anything in particular you would like for us to do. Wayne
  4. Don, you and Eileen are very special people. This is the first MD that I've been to and I was blown away. Lots of things come to mind. Your beautiful place complete with lots of room and an awsome pond. So many bikes I didn't know where to start because I wanted to look at all of them. The biggest challenge I had for the day was trying to meet as many people as I could. I never even came close to meeting everyone but I did have a blast putting faces with familiar names. Some came close to my imagined picture but most very much surprised me. Feeding that many people would have been a challenge in any setting but with people all spread out the way they were I believe you guys pulled it off with excellence. Lonna, I was looking forward to your cheesecake and you didn't let me down. Great stuff!! I really didn't need anything done on my bike and that was not the reason I came. The one big thing I noticed though was that a number of men WORKED tirelessly ALL day dripping sweat and blood in some cases on OTHER peoples bikes. It really is hard to find the words to express what that means.. You guys are AWSOME!!! A number of people I met were there for the 1st time and every one of them also said it was an amazing day. For me I am soooo looking forward to next year. This weekend is such a great example of what this organization is all about. I love it here. Wayne
  5. Mine was like that too. I took the radio apart (easy to do with small philips screw driver) then sprayed liberally with contact cleaner to get things moving again. That solved the problem for me. I have not found a source for those micro switches so if that is gone will be more difficult to fix. I have a spare radio controler if you need it. Wayne

  8. Edible!
  9. I don't know the answer to this question. Are the Avon Venom X tires radial or bias? Anyone?? Wayne
  10. I'm not sure how to describe it but it is definately not front end wobble. It feels like the whole bike but if I had to choose I'd say rear. Wayne
  11. From everything I've read so far the Avons are an EXCELLENT choice for 2nd gens. This problem is only with the 1st gens and even then not all of them. Wayne
  12. If your brown cover is in good shape and would still fit the original seat and foam I have an uncovered seat with all the foam intact. You are welcome to it. Wayne
  13. It's a wobble.. not a front end shake and it feels more like you are behind a big truck and being blown around. We are pretty sure it is the rear tire causing the problem. If we add weight to the bike the problem pretty much dissappears as well. At 140 it gets downright interesting and is quite visable by someone behind you. Wayne
  14. Just thought some folks might be interested in our progress on this situation. Carl and I had over the winter Avon Venoms installed on our scoots. He had the rear replaced and I had both front and rear. Both of us experienced a wobble at speeds over 110 Kms/hr or 75 Mph. The wobble gets worse as the speed increases. Carl talked to the people at Avon and they indicated that they wanted to resolve the issue and would pick up the costs. We have been to the shop that installed the tires and he also wanted to resolve the issue and is willing to do what it takes. I've had the Avons replaced with another set of Avons (one at a time) without success. Same problem. Now I have a set of Metzlers on and the problem is GONE. I know I'm going to get some flack because I chose Metzlers but really didn't want to go back to Dunlops because I liked the way the Avon handled better than the Dunlop. With the Dunlop I felt every crack in the road as well as expanded steel bridges and groove pavement. So far I really like the Metzlers. For many seasons these were the prefered tires and then one season some folks experienced peices coming out of the tires. In my opinion (and I worked for Firestone for 12 years in the plant making tires) it could have been a bad batch of rubber or some other component so I'm not worried at this point. So far so good and right now I LOVE my bike again.... Was on the hwy at 140 Kms/hr for an extended period yesterday without a problem. Could NOT do that with the Avons. I believe Avon makes a great tire but there is a compatability issue with SOME 1st gens. Wayne
  15. WOW!! Hey Phil... That is amazing. I think you captured pretty much the whole event. Thanks for sharing this. Wayne
  16. Usually in the first part of October you can get very nice weather. It can get pretty cool at night but usually not below freezing. During the day it's usually great riding weather wearing a coat. It's possible to get a freak storm with snow but very unlikely at that time. We usually ride till end of November and sometimes into December. Wayne
  17. That looks really good. I wish I'd seen that before I bought a new windshield. Anything to protect the navigator is fine by me.
  18. Thanks Don: That would be AWSOME!! Wayne
  19. Hi Folks: I have a friend that dosen't have a computer. He's 78 and loves the 1st gen venture. We found him an 85 in very good condition but he needs all three rotors. Does anyone have any to sell or someplace reasonable to get some that are in good shape? Wayne
  20. Phil: How do you like the Metzlers? Handling? Tar snakes? Grooves? etc....
  21. I really think that what I'm experiencing right now is the tires. I have had the head bearings too tight and it is way worse. Last summer Carl and I changed the steering head bearings on my scoot. We had them too tight at first and it was horrible. After I loosened them a tad they were fine. Over the last couple of weeks I've loosened and tightened the steering head bearings as well as playing with tire pressures and suspension pressures to try and fix the problem. Right now the head bearings are loose and I agree that isn't the problem. Got an appointment with the mechanic on Tuesday to change tires. Wayne
  22. Hey Dr.Nemo: Like Carl we will be in church on Sunday morning but would be ready to ride around 1:00. If we know when you are coming through Caledonia on the way to Brantford we would love to join you. Sounds like a GREAT time. Wayne

  24. Here we go.... Marcarl and I changed our tires this spring to Avon Venoms. Carl had venoms on his last year and experienced no problems. Mine had Dunlop on the front and Michelin on the rear with no problems. Both of us are now experiencing this wobble. It feels like we are behind a large truck and being pushed around. Definately not in the front. In my case it is also hard to keep a straight line at slower speeds (which could be loose steering bearings at this point). I've reduced air pressure on the rear tire and it moved the wobble to a higher speed. When I carry a passenger the wobble is gone. The dealer that put the tires on wants to put Dunlop 404s on because he "knows" they will work on the bike but I have a problem with that because of the tread design. The Venoms make tar snakes and grooved pavement pretty much disappear. The Dunlops are the old style and those problems will be back. Carl talked to an Avon Rep and they are willing to pay to have another set of Avons installed to see if it is just a bad tire (I have a problem believing that because of the different manufacturing dates on Carl's and my tires). Avon is then willing to pay the labour to have another manufacturers tire installed IF the new set dosen't fix the problem. Our dealer now has the name and number of the Avon rep and is going to go that route to see what happens. Any suggestions on what to try next would be greatly appreciated because I liked the dissappearing tar snakes but hate the wobble more. I don't believe new Avons is going to fix the problem so want to know what to try next. Another note. Carl had his engine out over the winter to do 2nd gear. I had the swing arm assembly out to change bushings. I also added a fork brace. Carl's has progressives and mine dosen't. Otherwise everything else is the same. Brad: We will keep you posted as to the outcome but at this time I believe the Avons are the problem.
