  1. Ok here we go.. Meeting 8 AM at the Pioneer BBQ (I actually know where that is). Please come with a full tank and ready to ride. Stopping in Mono Mills (corner of Airport Rd and Hwy 9) for fuel and coffee. Should be in Mono Mills by 10:30 if anyone wants to join us at that point. Bala for lunch.. This will be a long ride and through some amazing countryside. Part of the ride will be through one of the twistiest roads I know of in Ontario. I'm not a daredevil so this twisty will NOT be pegscraping but it IS BEAUTIFUL.... Wayne
  2. Thanks guys this will help...
  3. So after the rally in Potato creek we are intending to run up the west side of Lake Michigan to Escanaba and then across to Sault St Marie followed by Tobermory. Question is What is the BEST way to get around Chicago?? That is the only part of the trip that I'm not looking forward to. Wayne
  4. I would feel comfortable with ANY size cooler. Even a tool box. Something even heavier. The cooler slides in snug and won't move around. The bungee's I put on the sides just to be safe so it cannot slide sideways on a fast curve. The top one is so the lid doesn't pop open while travelling. Wayne
  5. Yes I can shorten it somewhat but I don't want to remove some aspects... It would take away from the purpose of the ride... If for some reason we get too late we can hop on the HWY to get home sooner... Wayne
  6. I have the same one as Dave. Works perfect and can be adjusted to any size cooler (or box for that matter) I use 3 bungee's with it and it is easy to get into the cooler at any time or remove the cooler at any time. Wayne
  7. So far the plan would be Lunch in Bala... It will be an ALL DAY RIDE. For most of the ride at the Muskoka end we will not be too far from the Hwy if anyone wanted to bail. I cannot give a time we will be back because when I try to do that it always gets messed up depending on how many riders we have. If I was riding it myself I'd expect to be back around 7 or 8 PM. With a group it Always takes longer.
  8. Planning on Thursday.. the holiday..
  9. So if folks want to come along. We are planning an all day ride starting in Kitchener and going to Muskoka. If you were at the international in Kitchener it would be very similar to the ride we did then. Just nailing down the particulars.. like where to meet. Should be on the road by 8:30 so meet at 8:00 to get organized. Anyone Interested?? Wayne
  10. The only drawback of the 550 at this point that I can see is the size of the onboard storage won't hold the latest maps if you want all of North America. They will install to a card though. Wayne
  11. I have an 84 and love it. Comfortable, fun, lots of power, handles like a sport bike. That said. Any bike this old will have some cracks and blemishes in the plastic. If the bike has been stored indoors and maintained it should be good. Lots of little things that can be a problem. - all rubber like brake lines, air lines, fork seals, valve cover gaskets.. etc.. see if they are leaking or have been replaced. If brake and clutch lines are original plan on replacing them - If it is a Royale then check on whether all the electronics are working. CLASS, radio, CB, Intercom.. - Check tires for cracks in the sidewalls. - Is it still being used or has it been sitting for awhile? One Big Thing... - 2nd gear on that year will at some point be a problem and at 60,000 miles it is about to start to be a problem. If it has not been repaired it is a pretty big job. If you are mechanically inclined you can do it yourself and it is not too expensive BUT if you take it in to a mechanic it is about a $1500 job. Sounds scary but if the bike is in good shape I can pretty much guarantee you will really love the bike... they are fun to ride and very comfy. Like has been said earlier... You came to the right place. I'm sure others will pipe in with more suggestions. Wayne
  12. 1 XS if possible...
  13. I have the 660 and LOVE it. The only difference that I can see is XM radio. So if you want that feature it is an awsome unit. I've only had it for awhile but have had lots of use and fun with it. It's easy to read in any light. Plugs right into the bike's system. Plays MP3s. Can be a picture viewer as well. I like making routes on the computer and loading them up to follow. Easy to use and feelsl right. Garmin so far also stands behind their products very well in my opinion. My opinion the 660 or 665 (if you want XM) is for sure the way to go in a MC GPS. I'll give you an ear full when we see each other if you open that topic up. Wayne
  14. Hey Bobbie: Thanks for the Pics.. Was almost like being there... Hmmm wait a minute.. I WAS there.. But thanks anyway.. lots of fun Wayne
  15. Mine broke off too and I fixed it by rebuilding it with Plastex. I just formed the shape with aluminum tape and redrilled the hole when I was done. As strong as ever and easy to do. I didn't know about the spacer that Condor mentions which i am going to get asap.. (Thanks Condor) This makes a lot of sense and also would help with dampening vibration at that point.
  16. That is one of MY favoutites as well.. Love those PB Parfait's hmmmm.. DQ right around the corner... now ya got me thinkin.. Be back in a bit.............................................................
  17. AHHHHH You don't know what you are missing... And you WON'T know till you try... It's all about quality.. Hmmmmm...?
  18. Ok I finally got some time to shrink these and upload them. Big thanks to Don and his beautiful gal.. for letting us invade your space. I loved touching base with old friends and making new ones. Already looking forward to next year. Wayne The last one is specially for BIG TOM.. That's CANADIAN ICE CREAM!! Now that you finally have your passport you have to come and get some...
  19. I'm also hoping to be there in time for this. Food is always good.. Hanging out with friends even better... Wayne
  20. Keep the rubber side down.. say HI to Rick and Michelle for us. See you at the Lube..
  21. What kind of Dinghy do you have for sale? My second love after the bike is sailing small boats.. Wayne
  22. I see you tried Steve (679BIKE) on #6 in Mount Hope.. That is where I deal for anything I cannot do myself. He is reasonable and he knows these bikes better than anyone else around here. I can not find a better deal locally. One other thing. When I went with the Avon's on my scoot for some reason it didn't work and the bike waddled. Steve took very good care of me. I wound up with a different brand after some experimenting and all the installations were free. In other words it cost me nothing to get it all taken care of. Wayne
  23. This is GREAT news... Can't wait..
  24. This sounds like a different problem. I had this happen as well and it is not the 2nd gear issue. There is a star shifter or cog (not sure what it is called) that has a number of pins in it. The outside star washer over time gets weak and the pins come loose. If the pin for 3rd comes out or loose you cannot get it to shift. Easy fix. Take clutch cover off and look behind and to the right of the clutch. I just pushed the pins back in and bent the tab back over it to get me by for the time being. Squeeze told me that the VMax unit from the 2001 and up is a direct replacement which is cast and this will never happen again. I have since done that and it works better than ever. I can look up the parts for you if you like.. PM me if you have any questions.. Wayne
