I'm currently running a Commander on the back and a Metzler on the front. I don't have a problem mixing tires. My handling is fine. Wayne

make that old plastic dash, etc, look new
Wizard765 replied to bald josh's topic in Poor Man Tips and Fixes
and vinyl: Mothers makes a product called "Back to Black" It is designed specifically for this purpose and also protects. I think it works well. It does take a few applications if the part is very faded. It even seems to be working to get the vinyl bags by my knees looking good. The plastic or vinyl does not have to be black. I have a friend that has no computer but does have an 86 VR. Anyhow he is having health issues and at the moment cannot ride. He is waiting for eye sugery. In the meantime we are trying to get his bike ready for when he is. His Dash is toast. The speedo and Computer readout are not working at all. Does anyone have a complete dash they are willing to part with for a MkII? If you do PM me with a price please. Wayne

I made the tongue longer and also put a small S bend in it so that it is level when traveling. I installed a cooler rack on the longer tongue.

I'm 58 and this is my 4th season with my 84 VR. Got it with 42,000 Kms. Now has 105,000 kms. I've spent most of the 4 years personalizing it to make it MINE... I started riding bikes when I was about 8 with one of those lawn mower engine powered units with a solid frame and small wheels.

Michelin commander

I've got a commander on the rear of my 84 and I like it. It sticks well and seems quiet. I think it handles about the same as the Avon. No trouble with expanded steel bridges etc. Right now about 20,000 Kms (12,000 Miles) and still looks like I can go a few thousand more. I'll be putting another one on when this one is done. I'll also be changeing my front one to a Commander when the existing Metzeler is done. Wayne -

Road Trip works the same as Mapsource. I have both and can upload the routes using either my Macbook or my PC. It is easier if the maps on the Mac (in Roadtrip) or the PC in Mapsource are the exact same version that is on the 660. When you do map updates on the unit it does not automatically update the computer. You need to turn that feature on during the update. If the maps are not exactly the same then when you upload the route it winds up in My Data on the 660 and not in the Custom Routes folder. At that point you need to go to the My Data folder and import the new route. During the import it will recalculate the route. I find it better to make sure that the maps are the same. Sometimes when it recalculates the route isn't EXACTLY as I planned it. Some of the features in Roadtrip I like better than Mapsource. For example it has the zoom tool on screen the same as Google maps so I can zoom in and out as well as move my view around without having to change tools. Wayne

Nope... this is not about Yamaha.. Many years ago I bought a set of tools from Canadian Tire. They have a line of tools called Mastercraft that come with a lifetime warranty similar to Sear's Craftsman. I particularly like this set because it came in a plastic case with places for all the pieces. (and I got it on sale at 1/2 price) So about 4 years ago I lost an adapter inside the fender of a car at a wreckers. I went to Canadian Tire and asked to purchase a replacement. They ordered it and a few days later called me to tell me it was in. When I went to get it they just handed it to me and said "have a nice day" --- no charge.. I was flabbergasted... This was NOT broken this was LOST.. no fault of theirs.. I was totally prepared to buy a new piece to fill the hole in the case. Anyhow I thought someone made a mistake but didn't argue. Fast forward to last week. At some point this case popped open in our old van (kids had borrowed the van) and 4 pieces went missing. Last week I was using the tools and was bugged by the empty places to wandered over to Canadian Tire to order those tools. Got a call on Friday that the parts were in. Went on Sunday to get them... They handed me a baggie with the four tools in it... "have a nice day" Now I expect them to replace a socket or ratchet that brakes.. After all it is a lifetime warranty. I DO NOT expect them to replace something I LOST.. but they did both times.. I'M IMPRESSED!!!

Larry I don't know about the 1490T because I've never seen one. I have a 785T and a friend I ride with has the 765T (almost identical units except for the way they handle traffic). Both of those wash out in sunlight. My 785T has most of the same features as the Zumo 660 except sunlight readable and weatherproof. But the mounting hardware for the zumo is much better and the way it gets wired into the bike is much better. Also it knows when it is in the bike and when it is in the cage. Different settings in each location automatically. Being able to see the screen in any lighting situation for me is probably the best feature. I've put the zumo 660 beside the 785T and there is a world of difference in brightness. Both the 765 and 785 have routing so laying out a route on the computer and uploading the the GPS is possible. They both will save up to 10 routes at a time. Personally I know the zumo is more expensive BUT I believe it is the way to go for the bike Here is a Zumo 550 refurbished for $499 http://www.drivengps.com/Motorcycle/Garmin-Zumo-550-Portable-p8873634.html?gclid=CPrq7MzLhaMCFcl25QodIl4Ncg and a Zumo 660 for $625 with free shipping http://www.homegoodz.com/i100586-garmin-0100072700.html?ref=nextag&zmam=80412451&zmas=4&zmac=42&zmap=100586 Wayne

Larry: What features are you looking for? I know the lower garmins might not have the features you have now but I'd guess that the MC specific models might. There are limited choices with a bright enough screen to see in sunlight. Wayne

Ok finally had the time to wade through the pics that my navigator took. Most of these Robin took .. I point the bike and she points the camera.. Once in awhile she forces me to take the camera so she can be in a few.... A couple more that would be easy to upload here directly so they are on photobucket. This is just some of them so ya'll can get a taste of our trip.. Was a blast.. Can't wait to do another one .. http://s341.photobucket.com/albums/o365/Wizard765/Potato%20Creek%20VentureRider%20Rally/ Wayne

Nope didn't try the whitefish. Didn't know about it so that's on the to do list next time in the area.. Thanks for the tip... I off to get some shuteye... hopefully be able to upload some pics tomorrow.. Wayne
