My interests have changed over the years. Use to love downhill skiing in the winter and SCUBA in the summer. Also use to snowmobile for many years as well as R/C Planes. Still have a garage ceiling full of planes but not flying any more. I do have an indoor helicopter I spin around once in awhile. Now besides the bike my big love is sailing (smaller boats) I have two small boats. A CL-14 and a Skipper 2. Sailing can be relaxing but it can be REALLY EXCITING!! It can fulfill my need for speed on a brisk day..

Hazel turned 90 on Valentines day. She says she is always campaigning but she spends nothing on it. She just does her job and does it well. This is her last term (she says) because she thinks she has done her share of the work and feels it is time someone else can pick it up from here. An amazing woman with a terrific legacy.

exhaust leak
Wizard765 replied to Dr. Psycho's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had an exhaust leak behind the rear cylinders last summer. It turned out that I needed a new gasket where the down pipes are clamped to the pipe that comes out of the head. Small copper ring and not difficult to change. -
This is sad news. We hope and pray that he pulls through and recovers from this.

I bought the HF trailer as well but didn't just assemble it. I used it for the parts and material to make my own out of. Welded it together instead of bolts. Way cheaper than buying everything separate. Still wound up with what I wanted. The only thing I had to buy was material for a longer tounge. I also changed all the lights to LED to lower the drain on the bike's system.

Any Office program 2003 or newer will work fine with Windows 7. Even the 64 bit version. IF you want to be able to run even older programs then XP mode in Windows 7 pro or Ultimate will run anything. I use it for some older video editing programs. XP mode is NOT available in home versions of Windows 7. If all you are concerned about is FrontPage then you are good to go. Do NOT get Vista if at all possible. I would also recommend a 64 bit version of either pro or ultimate. You can then load up as much RAM as you want. The 32 bit version will only use 3 gigs so anything over that is wasted.

If your trunk is two tone gold I have a spare in good shape you can have if you want it. The MKII trunk is the same as the 85. At least the plastic is. It is NOT the same as the 83 or 84. The easiest way to get a bigger trunk would be to find an 85 complete with the rack that it sits on.

The newer versions of MS Streets and Trips will export to your GPS. I know it does for the Garmin but I believe you have to have a unit that supports routes. The Zumo will accept a route from S&T

Venture line backrest, 1987
Wizard765 replied to showmebob's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You can still get drivers backrest from Utopia for the 1st gen new. I really like mine and they matched up the color very close. I like the fact that there are no bars coming down the side. My wife is vertically challenged and the venture line was hurting her leg. http://www.utpr.com/venture.html -
How much more will it take?

Thanks for sharing that Ben. It is fresh now but for the rest of your life there will be things you do or moments that bring up memories of your Dad. He will always be with you.

Ben: Sorry to hear about your father's passing. God be with you.

Pulling the engine out to split it and fix 2nd gear. Will be working on it again tonight. (Thanks everyone for the tips on getting the collector off the pipes). Ordering all the parts I THINK I need from Earl right now. While it is out will be converting to stainless brake lines and de-linking the brakes. Also have a new Starter motor from a 2nd gen. Changing the front master cylinder to a Mk2. Cleaning up some custom wiring :-). Repairing a small crack and a missing tab on the left fairing. I have an 87 trunk coming which is the right colour. BUT the clear is coming off and I need to figure out how to re-clear coat it without damaging the base coat.

Help? Cannot get it apart...
Wizard765 replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yep there are two nuts that come off studs to release the collector. Those came off easy. At one point we had the whole thing just floating but as one giant piece. Actually almost every nut or bolt has come apart really well except one of the clamps for the left front pipe. That one is apart but the bolt broke. Now we have reconnected the rear and the collector so as to try and get the front pipes first. Going to spray with PB (if I can get it) and let it sit for awhile. -
Help? Cannot get it apart...
Wizard765 replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thnks guys: PB blaster and patience (which I'm lacking). Sounds good. Getting the pipes to twist would be awsome but there is no room to do that. they are loose from the engine but the space in there is VERY limited. Gonna have to see if PB Blaster is available in Canada -
Help? Cannot get it apart...
Wizard765 replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Ray: Mine now had over 100,000 K (kms) and this problem just started this past summer. I believe if the 2nd gear issue was fixed by a dealer there would be a stamp in the casing somewhere. I'm not sure where to look but I think someone with more knowledge than me will pipe in here. Wayne -
Help? Cannot get it apart...
Wizard765 replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Jean: Thanks for the reply. Say hi to Earl for me. The bolts are not the problem. They all came off easily. The problem is getting the pipes out of the collector once the bolts are loose. They are stuck tight. Also please let him know that when he is up and about I'll be sending him a list of gaskets and stuff that I will be needing. BUT not to hurry. He NEEDS to rest and do what the doctors say FIRST... Wayne -
Well we are trying to get the engine out of my 84 so that we can fix 2nd gear. Right now the problem is that we cannot get the pipes to separate from the collector. Tail pipes are off but the front and rear exhaust pipes just will not come loose. Afraid of breaking the collector and it appears to be in good shape. Any ideas? Is there a trick? I already broke one of the bolts trying to loosen the clamp on one of them. (gonna be looking for a clamp probably) At least that clamp is loose now. :-)

I flipped the axle and welded a small plate to the other side with a hole to accept the pin. Works like a charm and lowered the height of the trailer.
