2004 Venture Rear Shock & Radio
Wizard765 replied to Twodog35's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have no idea about using a Goldwing shock.. but the Hagon is adjustable so you could turn down the stiffness. They also come in two flavours.. A standard and a heavy duty.. The PO might have been a big guy riding double all the time in which case he would have ordered a heavy duty and you (if you are lighter) would then get a stiff ride. I just changed to a Hagon (regular) and really like the ride.. You COULD order an OEM shock and return to the air ride. Retrofitting a radio might be a challenge and keep the same look to the dash.. Unfortunatly you can only get so much out of a 4" speaker.. BUT after saying that how loud is loud? matter of perspective.. There may be a setting or something that can be tweeked.. I'm not really up to speed on the radio that is built in.. heck I still have trouble figuring out how to change things... I'm sure someone will chime in soon... -
Yes we are looking forward to pictures

I'm just wondering if this is MY fault.. I remember having lunch with you guys a week or so ago an mentioning a Miata might be in my future when I can no longer trust myself holding the bike up.. I remember Becky asking about that.. If so I'm sorry...

Maybe a gagage door opener from a Previous Owner?
-
Great looking scoot.. I know when the bags are off or empty it feels like a different bike.. Can I ask you where you are getting the matching leather?

New Dundee is right around the corner.. We would LOVE to see you come out and "get involved" I certainly hope you can get the day off. You will really enjoy the day at Carl's.. Welcome aboard!!

What Don said but if I don't get aggressive it is fine.. If I lift it and let the mechanism hold it all will be fine.. Also we tweaked it just a little and now there seems to be a gap of about the thickness of a piece of paper so if I don't push on it and let it down gently it will be good.. Bike is almost all together so should be riding by the weekend weather permitting of course

I have 8 of them on each bag.. two for each hole. one outside and one inside and a metal spacer inside each of them plus a large metal washer on each on the inside
-
Wow.. to have that kind of talent

If I was considering a smaller bike to just get around I'd be seriously looking at this one.. Finally a true liquid cooled Harley that looks good and appears to be well designed.. http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US/Motorcycles/street-750.html

Light brown liquid
Wizard765 replied to mbova's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Your stator is cooled with engine oil so having oil in that compartment is normal. If you didn't drain the oil before you started then you would lose a substantial amount when you cracked the case.. If it is older it could be brown.. if it has water in it then it usually would be foamy or creamy.. It could be fine and normal. Before you put it back together make sure you clean (very well) the area where the rubber grommet goes and the wires come out of the case..then use a good sealant. They tend to seep oil if not sealed really well. I would also recommend a new crush washer for the bottom hole of the middle gear cover.. for me the hardest part was getting the old gasket cleaned off.. like it was baked on.. I used gasket remover which sort of melted it.. Next hardest part was getting it all lined up fighting the magnets to get it back together.. just be patient ,, -
Yup! We look forward to this every year.. Anyone that can make it.. SHOULD make it.. Especially some of the newer members or anyone that has not been before.. It's so much fun putting faces with the names you see on here... SEE Y'ALL THERE!!!!

Wow!! Nice Bike.. If I wasn't riding two up most of the time that would be my choice in a bike as well.. Kind of HWY and go anywhere if the mood strikes bike.. Nice choice..

replace tripple tree?
Wizard765 replied to Wizard765's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
ALRIGHT!! On Saturday spent some time over at Marcarl's working on replacing the lower triple tree.. My son in law was helping me and we work well together. It was actually kind of fun and the job was way less than I was anticipating. Already had the front fairing, windshield etc off so just had to remove the front wheel and Loosen the frame for the fairing to get it to move a little out of the way. Then we could drop the forks and remove a few brackets. Undid the bars and had enough play to just get them out of the way. Was way easier with two people than it would have been alone.. Happy camper now.. -
Hey guys n gals: I have a problem with my trunk lid opening just a tad too far if I open it all the way. What happens is the left side of the backrest hits the speaker grill on that side and I get a broken grill (repaired it twice now). So the question I have... Is there a way to stop the lid from opening that far? I know if I just lift it so far and let it down again I am fine because it is held up by a contraption on the left side but sometimes I just want to open it all the way.. HELP?

Another one bites the dust, I'm not Ventureriders anymore.

Can't wait to see pics.. got me wondering.. hmmmmmm what could it be? -
Bob: Thank you for your concern. I agree with you and have no intention of riding around on the bad shock.. Just right now trying to decide on which shock to get and where to get it from.. OEM, Works or Hagon.. leaning toward Hagon.. Waiting on the local shop to see about the price here in Canada.. Also found a Canadian Distributor. But sometimes it's less expensive to order right from the U.S. and have it shipped.. even with exchange rates.. The shipping so far is over $60 to me but free to you.. if I order out of California The way I see that is I get a free trip to visit my Friend in Arcade..

I'm also looking at the Hagen shock.. Where did you get it from?

replace tripple tree?
Wizard765 replied to Wizard765's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
yes the stops are on the lower triple tree AND the frame.. but the stop that broke is on the lower triple tree -
Ok all you folks that obviously know more than me.. Last summer my son in law backed into the front wheel of my bike and luckily it didn't fall over BUT it swung around enough to break off the tab that stops the handle bars from going too far.. anyhow I have acquired a good lower tripple tree with the tabs in tact.. Question I have is how hard is that to replace and how much of the front end do I need to remove to get at it?
-
So the other day found a fairly large puddle of oil directly under my rear shock... Sooooooo guess I'm looking to replace it.. Cash is somewhat scarce at the moment so was wondering if a used one would be available. Has anyone triked lately? Does anyone have a good used one they would sell me(parts bike)? If not what should I get and where is the best price? To add to the $ problem is the exchange rate between Canada and USA.. anything I buy I have to add about 35% to the price..

My brother in law owned one of these in the day.. I remember getting to take it out for a day.. At the time I was riding a Honda 750 super sport.. Anyhow the Seca was the scariest bike I ever rode.. it looked and felt like any 650 up to 5000 rpm. Nice handling like todays crotch rockets. I believe it was the predecessor of the crotch rocket and in Canada at the time it didn't take off like they thought it would.. I believe it was about 3 to 4 years ahead of it's time (at least here) The scary part is that once the turbo kicked in at 5000 it felt like it INSTANTLY went to 10,000. You had to be hanging on with everything you had. I took it out on a local flat straight road that had fairly new pavement. Rode a few miles along looking for stones and sticks etc.. Decided it was clear and there was no traffic so I turned around and psyched myself up. Let her go.. Once she wound up I have no idea how fast I was going because I was to scared to look down at the speedo.. I know the telephone poles looked like a picket fence and the dotted line was solid. everything looked like I was seeing through a fish eye lens.. I am so glad that I never owned it.. I doubt I'd be here today.. BUT man it was fun that day.. I later also had a V-Max for a day from MY brother.. The V-Max had more all over power but not the kick of the turbo.. If I had to guess I'd say the 650 turbo would eventually pass the V-Max like maybe across the intersection..
