  1. So I put some cool lights in the tail light of my 84. They look great and really fill the lens. Problem now is that I have an error reading on the dash. I read somewhere about jumpering the CMU but don't have a clue where that is and how to do it.. Can someone explain in laymans terms how to get this error to disappear..? Could adding a resister somewhere make the difference?
  2. It's looking like AMAZING weather for the Wednesday night ride.. getting pumped
  3. Sounds good to me
  4. Is this an air shock?
  5. Carbon One does.. not sure about Venturedad..
  6. I agree with this. The older signal was called NTSC and if your TV is old enough you will need a tuner that converts. Most newer TV's have an ATSC tuner built and all is good. I have two major areas broadcasting numerous channels. For me it is Toronto and Buffalo. Toronto is almost north and Buffalo is East so I have two Channel Master digital antennas with a joiner and an amp. No rotor to deal with and I get very clear HD (720) signals. Somewhere around 30 channels. Some stations broadcast 2 or 3 channels so for example i have 3 channel 2. 2.1 2.2 and 2.3. One is the standard channel. One is a retro station and the other is weather channel. So unless you have 3 or more directions I'd opt to go without the rotor. An extra antenna is easier and probably less expensive than a rotor. If I remember correctly I have a 4221HD ($50) for Toronto (closer) and a 42228HD ($80) for Buffalo Toronto is about 60 miles and Buffalo about 80 miles.
  7. Just finished helping a friend swap fairings from an 84 to an 88. everything worked like a charm. The only parts that are different are on top of the fairing and they hold the CB and CLASS. Color will be different.
  8. Welcome aboard and good choice in a project. Once you get in the saddle you will understand. We are not that far apart (practically neighbours) If you have any questions or need anything let me know. Get together for a ride etc...
  9. If you are talking about both being 84 then the only real difference is the electronics. The VR has CLASS. AM/FM, Cassette, Cruise Control and Intercom. Body panels and mechanical parts like the forks are totally interchangeable.. The only body parts not interchangeable would be the upper fairings that hold the electronics.. If the VR that you get has working electronics then you might want to turn your standard into a Royale. I like having music and an intercom as well as cruise.
  10. It looks like you live in Turkey Point. That is not far from us. In fact we go through there a number of times during the season to do the lakeshore run. I'm in Caledonia and Carl is in Brantford. We both have 1st Gens and have been wrenching on them for quite awhile. even getting pretty good at fixing plastic. So if the bike is not totally trash it is worth getting and making her road worthy. You will absolutely love the bike once you get out on it. They are pretty much bullet proof mechanically so the biggest concern is cosmetics. With that low miles it would be interesting to see.. Don is right.. you should come to Marcarl's Venture Inn this Saturday. Really good time to meet some folks and maybe get a bunch of questions answered in person. Might even find some volunteers to help you...
  11. So I been thinking that the old girl is not up to snuff. A couple of seasons ago I could push about 300 Kms to a tank (that's about 186 Miles for those south of the 49th). Now to do that I had to stay off the slab and ride the way the missus likes. Last season I was down to about 260 Kms to a tank (161 Miles) under the same conditions. Hmmmm? Now this year I've been whining like a little girl to Carl (Marcarl) about how I'm only getting 210 Kms to a tank (130 Miles) and to top it off it don't run as lively as I remember. Now I have a few grey hairs ( well maybe a few more than a few) and maybe I don't remember as well as I could. But just don't seem as peppy. Starts like a charm and runs smooth as silk. Put the carb tune on it and it's about perfect. Everything tests fine... even ran a can of seafoam through it just to be sure.. Well I got to thinking that maybe I'd ask you fine folks what the problem might be but before I did that I got to thinking about my spark plugs.. Took a look at them and they looked fine... BUT couldn't remember last time I changed them.. grey hair.. remember? So off I go to Canadian Tire (sort of a big AutoZone on steroids for you southern types) and sitting in the parking lot (again with the memory) could not remember what type of plugs I was suppose to get. Phoned my good friend Carl so he could here me whine again and he couldn't remember either but was able to look it up. So now I changed the plugs and dodging a thunderstorm or two decided to take her for a spin.. WOW!! Even though they looked good the snap is back.. I don't understand because I thought hey.. it sparks or it don't. It lights and fires or it don't.. hmmm maybe not the case.. I think from now on I'm gonna change plugs every winter while she is sleeping

  21. There is an input for an external source such as an mp3 player or phone. You can also get a GPS with MP3 capabilities.. There is also a CD changer available that fits in a side bag as well as a Venture specific iPod that works with the existing sound system.. Lots of stuff to choose from.. I'm sure others will chime in as well..
  22. That's a very nice colour combination... Congrats.. Enjoy
  23. Nice work Don.. You must have a very steady hand to do pin striping that way..
