I used some very fine grit sandpaper to get rid of scratches first. Then I used a polishing wheel in a drill. Shines almost like chrome and then clear coat. Be sure to get a GOOD clear coat or it will be a problem later.. I put a hand drill into a workmate and had the wheel in the drill. With a fine polishing compound Carl did his and didn't clear them. He has something called a magic cloth and just wipes them down once in awhile. Been a couple of years and they still look great.

CLASS E1 Repair
Wizard765 replied to Donvito's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I know it would be an expense but if you want to ship it to me I'll do it for you.. -
There are a LOT of people flying RC aircraft and they would be very insulted if you called them "TOYS" Radio Controlled helicopters are NOT TOYS and as such should be respected. If you have never experienced starting a large scale plane then the next time you start your lawnmower turn it on it's side and start it by throwing the blade around a few times.. It will get your attention

coil cap seal
Wizard765 replied to Wizard765's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Turns out that there IS a seal or thick "O" ring behind the cap but it is stuck IN the cap and one of mine was missing until I took the bike apart to change the coil. Found it and all is good now.. Thanks for the replys.. -
YES!! Around that speed it is very normal on most 1st Gens.. something about square cut gears or whatnot.. mine is like that as well... I put a little motorkote in every third oil change and it lessens it quite a bit.. at lower speeds and higher speeds it goes away completely.

Is there such a thing.. Where the plug wire enters the coil there is a round cap that screws onto the coil and the wire goes through the cap. Is there something that is suppose to be in between the wire and the cap that tightens against the coil to hold the wire in place and to seal it? If so where can I get them? Not showing on the fiche..

Hard to start after 1 week sitting
Wizard765 replied to cabreco's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Mine is the same if it sits for awhile. I guess the bowls are draining. I have to turn my key on 4 or 5 times and let the pump fill the bowls. Just turning it on once isn't enough and the pump has a timer so it quits after a few seconds. I just keep restarting it until it stops clicking altogether. A little choke if it's cold out and she starts right up. -
Looks GREAT Bob.. Did you swap the TV to the other end?

if the weight you are posting is really in Kilos then the trailer weighs about as much as I'd want to tow before you put ANYTHING in it.. size is not the issue as much as total weight. Anything over 400 lbs and I'm thinking you are really pushing your luck.. cornering and stopping will be a problem.

This is a bit long but I'm getting frustrated so I'm hoping someone can find a solution for me.. It started with a solo run (wife not with me) and having some fun with Marcarl. Got to going a "little" faster than usual and noticed the bike would not go over 5'000 rpm. It also developed a miss after that so I changed the plugs and it seemed somewhat better. A short time later (maybe 2 tanks of gas) I was on my way to Bongobobny's and it started missing again so changed the plugs at his place and all is good again.. but one of them was black.. Started thinking I might have a bad coil.. Changed the coils from a friends parts bike. Then it didn't fix it so I dug down into the frame again and took out the TCI. I have a friend that is awesome with a soldering iron so I took it to him and we took it apart. Once apart it was obvious that there was a problem. All 8 of the diodes were just a pile of dust. I'm actually surprised it ran as well as it did. We changed all the diodes and buttoned it up. I re-installed the TCI and started the bike. It seemed to run fine so I put it all back together. Then once it was back together started it again and it ran fine for a couple of minutes then ran like crap and lost the tach. Seemed to be running on 2 cylinders. Took it all apart again and got a couple of TCIs from Ray that he had laying around. Again it seemed to run fine so I started to re-assemble only this time when I got one side done I tried it again.. back to running like crap and no tach. So what I'm thinking is that the transistors are gone or going. Seems to run fine when dead cold and soon as the electronics warm up it quits, Got ANOTHER TCI from Bongobobny and it came out of a good running machine but may have been on the shelf for awhile. Numbers are slightly different My original was a 41R-10 and the newer one from Bob is a 41R-11. I'm thinking this should be alright but it's still a problem. Now the bike will idle fine and rev up fine without a load. Will run for as long as I want without quiting BUT once in gear there is no power and it kicks and sputters.. Any ideas??? help? I'm getting real tired of taking this thing apart so many times.. I am ordering a new TCI from Dingy but I just got back from vacation and he is being kind enough to wait until I get a cheque or two in..

If you download and install basecamp then you will also get to use mapsource. I happen to like mapsource better than basecamp to continue to use it. or Try this Step 1: Download latest version of MapSource from Garmin. http://www8.garmin.com/support/mappingsw.jsp Step 2: Rename file extension to a .rar instead of .exe Step 3: Use WinRar to extract to a folder (instead of running exe). http://www.win-rar.com/download.html?&L=0 Step 4: Run MSmain.msi file, not Setup.exe If that won't work for you let me know and I'll send you a link to the files...

Ok I'm back.. We spent two weeks touring the Maritimes.. Was an AWESOME trip. Trailered from here (Caledonia Ontario) to Edmundston NB. Only reason was to get more time on the East Coast. Gained two full days. 1200 Kms from here to Edmundston and did it in one day.. same coming home. We had 4 couples all together. 1st day crossed NB with a stop at Grand Falls. Stayed in Shediac for a night. Next day Robin's (my wife) brother who lives in Bridgetown NS met us and Robin and I split from the group to spend 3 days with her brother touring around the Annapolis Valley. The rest of the group spent 2 days in PEI and 1 day in Halifax. Next stop was Harbourview which is one cove over from Peggy's Cove. Stayed 3 nights 2 days there. Spent time in Peggy's Cove, Lunenburg etc.. Amazing roads and Scenery along the coast. Then we headed to Baddeck on Cape Breton. Spent a day on the Cabot Trail.. Cannot even begin to describe the beauty of this ride. Lost count of the "OH WOWs" When we left there we booted it to Moncton to try and beat the tide. We were successfull and spent some time on the ocean floor at Hopewell rocks.. Watched the tide come in. Was time well spent. Only down to this is that my father passed away while we were gone.. He had been failing for awhile and bed ridden. Not a surprise but just bad timing. Looking forward to heading to see Bob n Becky on Thursday as well as meeting Richard..

I'm not sure what you are expecting to see but the stock lighting on the 1st Gens isn't all that much. You would have a brake/running light and two signal lights.. The band across the trunk is just a reflector. The lower band is also a reflector. Some folks have put LEDs behind these strips and it looks great..

Richard: Looking at your pictures.. I'd be wanting to grind out all the fiberglass and fix it right.. I really like the plastifix (or plastex) Have done a bunch of repairs just recently.. With a little practice it's amazing what you can do with it..

OK guys chime in here please.. Is there a small ball bearing in there somewhere? or am I mixing this up with something else?

Happy birthday my friend.. Hope it's awesome!!!

You have already done the hard part.. Getting them off the engine is easy.. Just two clamps.. and they will almost fall out. (actually two pipes but one unit)
