  1. Yes!! Great day and great company.. Good ride as well.. no troubles at all.. enjoyed dinner by the lake etc.. Thanks all that came.. BUT ask Don about the roads that we rode AFTER a few of you bailed...
  2. In your country that is probably a fair deal. I know in Canada it would be pretty close if in Great shape and those low miles. Make sure the clock is not 130,000 miles. Very possible in 30 years. You won't have to worry about the 2nd gear issue for another 30,000 miles but will eventually. It is a fairly big job but very doable with the info on here.. If she is in great shape you will be a happy rider.. I loved my 84 and in lots of ways miss her..
  3. Does this make you the inventor of DIRT? Have a GREAT day!!!!
  4. Hi all: Don, Nancy, Robin and I are doing a loop tomorrow from my place through Niagara and back. Starting at my place between 12:30 and 1:00. Stands up at 1:00. Anyone wanting to join us is very welcome.. Should be eating dinner in Niagara on the Lake.. Any questions or comments I will monitor this thread as well as my number is in my profile Wayne
  5. Does a 2nd gen have a TCI? If so where is it located.. to me this all sounds like the TCI got wet or even damp and needs to be dried out.. remove it and bake it in an oven for awhile to get it dry.. This is EXACTLY what my 84 ran like with a bad TCI.
  6. Have a GREAT DAY on this your BIRTHDAY.... Father Time..
  7. Something that worked for me a couple of times when I couldn't get the air our of the top.. I pulled in the brake handle about half way and tied it like that over night.. don't know why but it worked..
  8. Happy to hear you are somewhat OK and the bike will be repairable.. actually when you get a chance post up what you need to get her back together.. you said something about a clutch cable but I don't believe there is a clutch cable as it is hydraulic.. I may have a few parts here to help out..
  9. Next Update: I left it on the charger for awhile then started it and measured across the battery. Was getting 12.5 to 12.8 volts and it didn't matter what rpm the engine was at. So I suspected the cheap regulator and swapped it out. Also happens to be the easiest thing to get to. So now it is measuring 13.9 V at 2000 rpm. I think that solved the problem.. Question now it where do I get a good regulator? Brand? Supplier? The one I just replaced I bought off eBay and it lasted about 6 weeks.
  10. Update: WoW!!! Got a call from a Florida number while sitting on the side of the road. I could not hear the phone because of the traffic. The road was the QEW which is heavy traffic and a lot of trucks etc.. THANK YOU BRAKEPAD.. Anyhow a friend came with a trailer and I am now at home.. When I first pulled off there was no juice but by the time he got to me the battery must have recovered enough to give me a dash. Lights came on etc but not enough to turn it over. Checked the batter connections and they are clean and tight. Somehow the battery went dead. I changed the stator about a month ago to a new Ricks Performance Stator so I'm hoping it is not that. I also changed the regulator at the time to an inexpensive Chinese brand (not sure exactly what) but still have the original which should be still good. Have the charger on it right now and when charged will start it and test voltages across the battery. Where else should I check? And How? The only thing I did was change my grips last night (thanks for the help Marcarl) and the old grips were heated. They could not be pulled off so we cut them off and snipped the wires. I thought I had them disconnected from the battery but was wondering if there was a short in there somewhere what would I be looking for? Is there a main fuse to look for? Anyhow thanks for the help and offers so far..
  11. So on my way to take my 84 year old Mom for a ride. 2000 RSV. Started running rough and backfiring then quit all together. Sitting on side of road. Called a friend and he's bringing a trailer. Turn on key and no dash. Won't turn over etc. headlights com on but seem very dim. Hard to tell in bright sun. So where do I start? What do I look for? Suppose to go on vacation end of next week. Hope to fix this before then
  12. Weather permitting I am planning on attending this event.. most likely solo though as Robin is experiencing some back pain at the moment
  13. Don: In the one photo of the red one installed they didn't have the bag guard rails so the reflector was installed in the original location on the passenger crash bar.. I'm also interested in this so if a solution to get the wires into the bag rails is worked out it would look great...
  14. My MM came with a Baron's Tach mounted on top of the brake master.. looks great and works great except at idle. At idle the needle bounces and is pretty much useless but once off idle it's rock solid.. sounds like yours Larry with the blue backlight etc.. just says Barons on it.. I wonder if there is something I can do about the bouncing needle at idle?
  15. Yes you can use Pandora at the same time or answer the phone or use the built in mp3 player etc.. The shadow box is a good idea..
  16. Yes I have that app on my iphone and it is fantastic. Like having a full blown GPS built into your phone.. turn by turn directions with street names and free updates to the software as well as the maps... Works even if you turn off your data... It does take up a little over a Gig of space on your phone though because it downloads all of North America.. About a year ago I got a free update on mine and now when I choose the kind of route I want to take to my destination I have another choice besides "fastest" or "shortest" etc.. the other choice is "Windiest Roads" and then you choose high or middle or low.. Amazing.. Only drawback is it is not bright enough for sunny days.. but you can hear it.. I use a Zumo on the bike but use this app in the car or van all the time..
  17. Steve If you want Mapsource you can get the instructions and links here http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-install-mapsource-if-it-didnt-come-with-your-gps/ If that fails or you can't get it to work I can put the software on a disk or thumb drive for you.. AND if you invite us over for a visit I will help you install it...
  18. Steve: I make routes all the time and actually really like the software that comes with the Garmin. One of the advantages is that as long as you keep the maps up to date then it won't have to recalculate the route when you import.. the software that I like is called Mapsource. Wayne
  19. I'll see if I can get a picture to post.. hmmm air There are no end weights right now and the ends are a chrome dome with no screws or seams.. If I was going to use air... how would I do that? Do I dismantle the throttle assembly and take the whole unit off the bar?
  20. My 2nd gen came with heated grips and I want to put the Kuryakyn grips on that I purchased.. I know getting the left grip off is a piece of cake by just twisting hard.. The right side is another matter. Don't want to put undo stress on the throttle cables so looking for a way to get the old grip off. They are not stock and they don't have a removable end. I'm starting to think I may have to cut them off.. Any Ideas from the brain trust?
  21. Thanks guys this is great.. one more thing then.. can I mix T6 with another type of aluminum? can they be welded? Like use the T6 for the stinger and regular aluminum for the angle frame and expanded mesh for the floor and weld it all together?
  22. So I want to make a small carrier for the back of the bike to put into the receiver hitch (thank you Carbon One for an excellent product0 Anyhow I was hoping the make the whole think out of aluminum. 1 1/4" square aluminum tubing strong enough? For the shaft that goes into the receiver? I'm guessing the max weight I would ever put on it is 50 lbs.
  23. that is a significant difference.. I know they are a little expensive but I've been looking at the J&S Jack. It appears to be an amazing product. Does anyone have experience with this particular jack? ($400)
  24. Gary it's good to hear this news.. Now you NEED to do the therapy even if it hurts a somewhat.. From the experience of a few of my friends this is the most important part and the mobility you wind up with is directly proportionate to the therapy..
  25. Can we ask which rack you got?
