Another possibility.. Did you know about the button that switches from headset to speakers? You could be sending the sound to the headsets -
stator problems
Wizard765 replied to homerboy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Rick's Motorsport makes a good stator and they have High Output as well as OEM style.. http://ricksmotorsportelectrics.com You can get the gasket there as well -
looks like you two are having a GREAT time.. Keep it up..

Apparently the new version of Google Maps no longer supports the send to GPS function. Mapquest still does but there is a trick.. Try this.. 1) Plug your nuvi in to the computer and go to www.mapquest.com. 2) Click on Get Directions. Put in your starting address as point A and your final destination as point B. Click Get Directions and Mapquest will calculate a default route and show it on the map with a blue line. 3) Add shaping points. This is basically done with "rubber banding" the blue route line. Zoom in on an area where you want to shape the route, grab the blue line, drag it to a road segment you want your route to pass through, and drop it on the road. This will put a red dot at this point and redraw the blue route line through it. Do this with each desired shaping point until the route is the way you want it. 4) Change the shaping points to "Stops". For each red dot on your route, right click on it and select "Make it a route stop" on the Mapquest pop-up menu. This step turns the shaping points into via's that will be recognized by the nuvi. 5) Send the route to the nuvi. On the Mapquest menu select Send > Garmin GPS > Route. Enter a file name for the .GPX file, select your nuvi and press Send. 6) Import route. Safely remove your nuvi from the computer, boot it up. On newer nuvi's with Trip Planner, wait a few minutes and your transferred route should be recognized automatically and show up as a trip in the Trip menu. On older nuvi's with Custom Routes, go to Tools > My Data > Import route from file. Select the file you sent from Mapquest, let it calculate and save it. Let me know how you make out

Eck You may have to import the route into the GPS.. On the GPS you go to My Data and then to import data and then to import routes and you should see the files you added. Your GPS may want to recalculate the route which should be OK as long as you have enough waypoints to make it go the way you want. Otherwise it will take you shortest or fastest depending on your settings. If I use Mapsource (Garmin's software) AND if I have the maps updated AND if they are both the same version then I don't have to import but IF any one of those things are not right then I have to import the route ON THE GPS.. Hope this is clear as mud.. If you need some more help of want me to walk you through it my phone number is in my profile..

I'm going to assume that the RSTD is the same as the RSV in this instance. The Stator is on the left side of the engine behind the large chrome engine cover. To remove the cover I needed to loosen the left side exhaust so as not to scratch the cover as I removed it.. The stator is bolted to the inside of that cover. There is a set of 3 wires coming out of that and going to a plug under the seat and sort of under the battery box. The regulator/rectifier is at the bottom and behind the center of the Radiator. It is held on by 2 10 Millimeter bolts.

Centerstand drag?
Wizard765 replied to Peder_y2k's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
This happened to me as well. Once I turned the clamp so it was out of the way the stand went all the way up and never dragged again -
This is what I do as well BUT I have noticed that if I pay attention to where I am going or keep focused ahead things work well and when I start looking to see if something is coming to maybe avoid stopping then I get in trouble.. I'm learning to commit to the stop THEN look and all is good.. Where it is the very worst is if I THINK I can make a turn without stopping and then something is coming and I have to stop mid turn then I really come close to losing it.. I'm really trying not to do that any more..

Venture advice needed.
Wizard765 replied to fredrikrosen's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
In your country that is probably a fair deal. I know in Canada it would be pretty close if in Great shape and those low miles. Make sure the clock is not 130,000 miles. Very possible in 30 years. You won't have to worry about the 2nd gear issue for another 30,000 miles but will eventually. It is a fairly big job but very doable with the info on here.. If she is in great shape you will be a happy rider.. I loved my 84 and in lots of ways miss her.. -
Does this make you the inventor of DIRT? Have a GREAT day!!!!

Does a 2nd gen have a TCI? If so where is it located.. to me this all sounds like the TCI got wet or even damp and needs to be dried out.. remove it and bake it in an oven for awhile to get it dry.. This is EXACTLY what my 84 ran like with a bad TCI.

Have a GREAT DAY on this your BIRTHDAY.... Father Time..

Something that worked for me a couple of times when I couldn't get the air our of the top.. I pulled in the brake handle about half way and tied it like that over night.. don't know why but it worked..

Happy to hear you are somewhat OK and the bike will be repairable.. actually when you get a chance post up what you need to get her back together.. you said something about a clutch cable but I don't believe there is a clutch cable as it is hydraulic.. I may have a few parts here to help out..

Broke down and stranded
Wizard765 replied to Wizard765's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Next Update: I left it on the charger for awhile then started it and measured across the battery. Was getting 12.5 to 12.8 volts and it didn't matter what rpm the engine was at. So I suspected the cheap regulator and swapped it out. Also happens to be the easiest thing to get to. So now it is measuring 13.9 V at 2000 rpm. I think that solved the problem.. Question now it where do I get a good regulator? Brand? Supplier? The one I just replaced I bought off eBay and it lasted about 6 weeks. -
Broke down and stranded
Wizard765 replied to Wizard765's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Update: WoW!!! Got a call from a Florida number while sitting on the side of the road. I could not hear the phone because of the traffic. The road was the QEW which is heavy traffic and a lot of trucks etc.. THANK YOU BRAKEPAD.. Anyhow a friend came with a trailer and I am now at home.. When I first pulled off there was no juice but by the time he got to me the battery must have recovered enough to give me a dash. Lights came on etc but not enough to turn it over. Checked the batter connections and they are clean and tight. Somehow the battery went dead. I changed the stator about a month ago to a new Ricks Performance Stator so I'm hoping it is not that. I also changed the regulator at the time to an inexpensive Chinese brand (not sure exactly what) but still have the original which should be still good. Have the charger on it right now and when charged will start it and test voltages across the battery. Where else should I check? And How? The only thing I did was change my grips last night (thanks for the help Marcarl) and the old grips were heated. They could not be pulled off so we cut them off and snipped the wires. I thought I had them disconnected from the battery but was wondering if there was a short in there somewhere what would I be looking for? Is there a main fuse to look for? Anyhow thanks for the help and offers so far.. -
So on my way to take my 84 year old Mom for a ride. 2000 RSV. Started running rough and backfiring then quit all together. Sitting on side of road. Called a friend and he's bringing a trailer. Turn on key and no dash. Won't turn over etc. headlights com on but seem very dim. Hard to tell in bright sun. So where do I start? What do I look for? Suppose to go on vacation end of next week. Hope to fix this before then

Weather permitting I am planning on attending this event.. most likely solo though as Robin is experiencing some back pain at the moment

Venture LED Fork Lights/Reflectors
Wizard765 replied to Karfreek's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Don: In the one photo of the red one installed they didn't have the bag guard rails so the reflector was installed in the original location on the passenger crash bar.. I'm also interested in this so if a solution to get the wires into the bag rails is worked out it would look great... -
My MM came with a Baron's Tach mounted on top of the brake master.. looks great and works great except at idle. At idle the needle bounces and is pretty much useless but once off idle it's rock solid.. sounds like yours Larry with the blue backlight etc.. just says Barons on it.. I wonder if there is something I can do about the bouncing needle at idle?
