Guess I better get those knobbys mounted up to the Venture rims, eh? I know that Kevin (Leadwolf56) also has a Lake Michigan ride scheduled sometime around that time frame. Not sure what his dates are for it. Dan

Count us in, but we probably won't make dinner on Friday. Got high school football, ya know! Which ever weekend works for us, not a problem. Dan

No Spark at the plugs.
Dano replied to Big Hack's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Dang Tom, I was hoping you would have this thing licked by now! Sorry for your bad luck, some of these parts places don't know how to look things up right! Hopefully JRichard can help you out. Dan -

If you pull the right side clutch cover off, look under the clutch basket on the lower left and you should see a round cylinder with 6 pins in it with some bent over metal holding them in. All 6 pins should be in there and the holders bent over them. If one or two are out of place, this is your culprit and you may have to pull the clutch basket to get them back in. If it's the shift linkage, thats behind the middle gear cover (small one on the left side), you might be able to take a mirror and look up in there from underneath. The rear knuckle points down, the front knuckle points up. Could be binding up not allowing for the downshifts into first. Good luck, Dan

plug wire problem
Dano replied to beetle57's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Start with replacing all 4 plugs, and we recommend replacing all the plugs and boots with new ones to eliminate any doubtfull ones. You can also take some readings at the TCI with a digital meter to check output pulses and things like that. There's a full section on this in the tech library. Good luck, Dan -

With you on that, Cindi. Our school starts the 10th, Rose has to start that date. So Vogel is out for us this year too. I'll get there one of these days!

Dano replied to adventurer 08's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I hear A1bummer has one he would probably like to dyno, I'd be glad to if I find one around here and it's reasonable. -
I got a buddy that lives in Leakey (where ever that is!) that has told me the same! Just let me know when you're gonna close the borders and I'll get there before that!

While we were camping up at Mohican State Forest area by Loudonville Ohio last weekend, the wife and I went out for a quick 1 hour ride Saturday morning. Went into town, filled the tank and went to return to camp. Was going to take a different route and missed the turn so we went further to find a driveway to turn around in. Car behind us was a little close, so I turned into an unfamiliar driveway a little too quick and hit the brakes, just happened to get along the edge of the asphalt and gravel, hit a little loop in the asphalt, off camber to the right dropping away. Went to put the foot down and figured it was too far! Already passed the point of no return, I just let her down easy, the wife wasn't as easy as she took a bit of a tumble (now she knows why I don't want her riding in sandals!), she stubbed her knee on the gravel but is alright. Nothing on the bike but a little scratch on the right rar guard bar down low, tweaked the chrome bumper leading edge just a bit. Nothing hurt more than our pride. Oh well, another donation to the can! Dan

Middle gear spring holder-Big Dudes bike
Dano replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yep, I'm just going to put her back together with the new holder. Something told me when I put the parts list together to order one. We'll have it back together tomorrow afternoon and I'll help him next week to get it back in and running. -
Make sure and release any air out of the front forks. With Progressives, you don't need any. Just riding will eventually put a little air pressure in there just from the heat everything generates while you're riding. Dan

It doesnt matter how many scooters I have ridden
Dano replied to E-Fishin-C's topic in Watering Hole
I do that quite frequently on the 84. Just seems like another gear would be good.- 4 replies

I'm kinda jealous, they're all down there drinkin' an partyin' to work on a bike and I'm here by myself to put Big Dudes motor back together! Guess I'll have to move to Texas!
-
I can't believe its been 25 minutes and nobody responded yet........ Inside the left swingarm, right by the frame. You'll have to remove the left footrest/peg mount to get it off. The wiring harness runs up along the rear framerail, you'll have to pull all the other wires out of the way to get to the 2 plugs that go to it. Dan

Glad to see your statement up here, I was hoping you would post it so I could send it to Rose, she STILL won't get on here....... She wanted me to pass along to you and Dale that she is very glad that this phase is over and done with, she hopes that Haylie will come thru also. We hope to be able to join you at the rally, that's still up in the air. Dan

Middle gear spring holder-Big Dudes bike
Dano replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
'Morning Squeeze, I see you're in front of the TV watching F1 practice this afternoon (for you!)...... If I were you I would be at the race course!! So, to understand the parts fiche, which has the same # thruout, they have changed the number even back to the 83's? And you are correct, black rtv was found on the case mating surfaces, bear to clean out of the screw holes and everywhere without getting any in the case........ We will use the new part, no sense to stay with the old. Will using the same spring be a problem? No way to tell spring rate on this one without a new one to check it against. Does anyone need a deep-sea weight for their fishing line? I'll send you the old one!!!!
