Sometimes we throw the tools on the bike because that's all we need to do our job. It beats the h**l out of driving that 1 ton van all the time. And the escape part comes from just riding, not having to drive a cage! I do it quite frequently when I can. Escape comes when you are riding the twisties on a weekend in some desolate corner of the country when you know you don't have to worry about a bunch of traffic getting in the way of your ride. Now, that's escape! (Or route 7 south of the Hub and taking the "Jasper Disaster") JMHO Dan

Seafoam will not access the port that pulls the vacuum to the rear of the diaphrams. That will only clean the orifices where the gas actually flows, and then down the throat of the carb. If the synch is off on Carb #1, that will affect slider action at idle, as the butterfly could possibly be open too far to allow a sufficient vacuum for slider action, or in the opposite case, closed too far, developing too much vacuum and possibly causing the one slider to actuate more than the others, hence his description of "one slider moving more than the others". Nateo: if you could possibly hook-up your manometer again, tell us if the vacuum on #1 (left rear) registers higher than #2 (left front). Even with some blocked or partially blocked passages, a synch that is close is better than one that is off. And please let us know which slider is moving more than the others (ie: Carb #1,2,3 or 4) Also, take off the air box and diaphragm covers and remove the diaphragms (watch out for the VERY small o-ring which goes into a recessed flange in the lower left of the carb body opening). Inspect these for holes (you can use liquid electrical tape as a short term fix if holes are found). Get some Berrymans spray carb cleaner and spray down the hole in the top of the carb where the little brass screw (Pilot Air Jet #1) is located. You should have a clear stream blowing out of the small hole at the bottom left of the diaphragm opening (don't look in there while you're doing it!). Do this to all 4 carbs. See if this helps. Dan -

Start with synching the carbs first. That adjusts the butterfly in the carb throat. This controls vacuum. Next would be to pull the diaphragm covers, inspect for the little o-ring down at the bottom. Next would be to make sure the vacuum passages are clear by spraying carb cleaner in those passages. Pull the diaphragms and make sure the sliders are moving freely and not sticking. Make sure there are no vacuum leaks around the carb boots. That'll be a good start. Dan -

Thanks Wayne, when I get them in, I'll have to see how I can get them packed up, especially the multi-unit orders. Gonna use the flat rate boxes, seems to be the cheapest way. Or would it be cheaper for you guys to ship to a MI member (Squidley?!) and you pick up from there? Just asking, a lot of possible scenarios there. Dan -

Got everybody covered so far. Thanks for your help, guys. Anybody wanna come help repack and ship next week?? -
Sounds like my week after we got back from the Int'l Rally, all 4 of my 4 wheeled vehicles had the coniption fits- my work van started missing (plug wire off!), the Durango's turn signals went crazy (bad trailer light converter), Camaro started running ruff (dirt in idle circuit in quadrajet) and the coupe-de-grace-- the 97 Sebring had a crank position sensor go out! Had to get in there and grind that one out! Didn't cost like yours did, but still a PIA to deal with all at once! I commiserate with you sir!

Fried Positive Cable
Dano replied to Sheradan's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
You need to change the ground cable also. Even the original cable shouldn't be smoking like that. Smoking is reserved for the rear tire when you're beating a Hayabusa off the line! Send a PM to Skydoc17, Earl may have some knowledge on who does the upgraded cables if you don't want to do it yourself. I would seriously take a good long hard look at your starter, you may have a bit of a problem there. Dan -
WHERE did THAT come from, Bob? You KNOW there's no logic around here!

That's the consensus so far. But you must remember, you are still limited to the output of the stator, this unit just manages the output better. If you want heated clothing, better go with LED bulbs in all your running lights, especially if you have a lot of them.
