Glad you got that sucker paid off Gerald. Nothing feels better than to have that extra change in your pocket every month. I had the house payment down to ONE YEAR left on it 3 years ago, refi'd to remodel the kitchen, play toys, etc! Now I got another 12 years to go on it! Never again, never again! Dan

Starter engage clutch and 20/50 oil
Dano replied to Snaggletooth's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Hey Mike, I just switched to Pennzoil 20/50 on my last change, more so for the hot weather and in town riding I've been doing lately, to save fuel on running the 1 ton van. I've not experienced the starter problems you're having, though. No slippage on the starter clutch at all, unless it's hot from just running and I'm on a compression stroke. It'll jump around a bit then. This winter I'm going to pull off the flywheel/rotor and do a starter clutch upgrade that Squeeze has designed and perfected for the VMax guys. I have the tooling that Squeeze has designed to modify the rotor for the install of the starter clutch mod (pawls all the way around the starter clutch gear instead of the 3 that stock provides), therefore I will never have starter clutch problems again. Unfortunately, sounds like you've already invested in a new starter clutch, or I would suggest you send your rotor to me over the winter and let me do the mod for you. Good luck in determining the solution, let us know! Dano -
I agree Jack, the thing of it is, all of us 1st gen guys can WORK on our bikes, the 2nd genners just know how to get to the dealer to get them to work on it! Warrenty this, warrenty that, I've definately seen the increase in posts. Seems like our bikes were put together pretty well for being 20+ years old! I'm just breaking her in at 73k on the odo now, I've probably ridden "Curly" more in the past 3 years than she had seen in the 45k that was put on her before I got her! Just have improvements and a fresh coat of paint to do and she'll be done! Dano

Good thought about that,Randy. I had forgotten about that. If it's not in the slot, the boot will be skewed and not on straight. Dan

Indian regulator/rectifier group buy
Dano replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Latest update. Just got the connector package in today, I will begin to sort them and put them in ziplocks for shipping. I MIGHT still have a good chance of getting them out on Saturday, but if not, we'll have them all out on Tuesday. I'll post up if I get any shipped out on Saturday. Dan -
Guess I should have put my glasses on. Loosen all 8 of the clamps, reseat the carbs (pop them off and then reseat them) and the air box, then tighten up the clamps. Dan

Hmmmmm, if you took that picture at night with a full moon-------- Moon over My Yammies! (Can't tell I'm bored, huh?!) I'd take the 1st gen, looks better than the Hardleys that'll be there. Plus, you can give them a ride when they break down!

Didn't know that winter settled in quite that early up North there! Looks like we're stuck for the next few months with him! Skinny Squidley

Very oily diaphragm/valve
Dano replied to MasterGuns's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Just for s**ts and giggles, have you done any mods that might increase airflow? K&N filter, needle mods or such? If this is the first time you've had a problem with this, think back to when it started and see if you did something different. Another thought, you might do a compression test with a leak-down test thrown in. If the rings are not sealing properly, it could be creating pressure in the crankcase, therefore helping "push" the oil up into the tube. Just some random thoughts from an otherwise previously engaged brain. Dan -
I don' car hoo youse is, dat rat der is plum downrat funny! Seriously (ya right!),glad to see Sue aced her testing (how did YOU do, Kevin?????)and she's got her own bike. I guess we now know who's gonna lead the next ride, right?

Book calls for 3.4 quarts without filter change, 3.7 with filter change. I'd say that's why you gots yurself a reallllly big mess there, gunny! Only fill to halfway up the glass. I put 3 quarts in mine, then start it up and let it run for a minute to charge up the filter and oil passages. Then shut 'er down, wait a minute and top it off to the halfway mark. This should help you out with the oil well! Dan -
Nope. 83 is by itself, I think, because of where the spark advance unit pulls its vacuum from. The 90-93 models are digital, they won't work in the 84-89 models (analog). Look for one starting with 41-R in the model # for the 84-89 models. Of course, I may be wrong, but I'm pretty close! Dan

Gosh, guess I opened the floodgates, eh! Dano, er Danob11, er Skinny Squidley, er Vern, Er Sybil!!

Probably oil from the air box, loosen all 4 carb bands for the air box and re-seat it. Then re-tighten the bands equally. That should stop the bubbling. Only way to stop the oil is to install a K&N breather filter on the intercooler.

Indian regulator/rectifier group buy
Dano replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Well Bob, if I could get paid for this, I'd do it all the time! It has slowed down since last weekend and I got stuff ordered yesterday. Waiting on the paypal to hit my bank so I can order the connectors (they don't take paypal). I'm sorry about you missing the order, a couple of the members ordered a LOT, so maybe they can hook you up later. They are also available on ebay, albeit a slightly higher price. I wish I had had the time to PM everyone that hadn't paid, but I had other work to do as well. I still have to ship all this out when it comes in! Dan -
I hope your "bear"ing up under the pressure, Jeff!

Order was placed this morning, shipping out tonite. Connector kits will be ordered as soon as I see an invoice from them. They don't do paypal so I have to transfer the money to my account to pay for them. Dan -
You can order them online www.partshark.com (formerly FlatoutMotorsports.com), price is better even with shipping, versus ordering them over the counter at your local dealer. Shouldn't take but about a week to get them in. Dan

I use the $30 WOLO "BadBoyz" air horn from Autozone, works just perfect and mounts easy. Definately gets everybodies attention!
