Middle Gear oil seal

It's not too hard to do, but you'll have to pull the swingarm off and you'll need a couple of bigger sockets and allen wrenches to do it. Also a good time to grease up those driveshaft splines! Plan on spending a day or two to do it if you've got no experience in it. Most of the time will be spent removing and reinstalling the bags and hardware(for MKII's). Just make sure you have a printed service manual and that the shims go back in correctly under output shaft plate it can all be done with the bike on the center stand. Pay close attention to the torque rating for the swingarm bolts, as too loose will give you a "squirrelly" feeling that you'll swear is coming from the front end! Also a good time to install zerk fittings into the swingarm shock links and at least grease them up too. Gotta quit, I could come up with a HUGE list of mods for you to do while you're in there! -
It all started when Squidley moved down "there"! We've only got a dusting, roads are clear, but it's COLD!

Hmmmm, sounds like mraf had it right...... Glad to see your dad's getting what he needs and you are around to help him, things work in mysterious ways, as we all know. Prayers going for a successful surgery and a quick recovery, don't worry, it's still chilly down there! Dan & Rose

I DID manage to get out for a short ride today, about 20f this afternoon. Went about 20 miles thru the country, then a short blast back up the freeway (da*n what a mistake!) and then back to the house. It felt great to get out there for a bit. Now mind you, this is without any of that fancy heated gear!

The YICS system on a MKI WILL start to leak at some point in time, just remove the whole thing and plug the ports on the intake manifold(s). Do as suggested and check for vacuum leaks all around the carbs. Keep the air filter and box cover on when running the motor, too much air getting in there with it off. Good luck, Dan

Well, just keep leavin' us 1st genners out of the goodies and see what happens! Oh yeah, that's right, they're buit into our bikes!

Ah, to throw my 2 cents in (after the above anyway), everything is designed to be thrown away in 2 years or so anymore. They figure they can stay in business that way.

It's just all those gizmos you got plugged in there Jeff, ya gotta remember to unplug them! Now, as far as that nice waitress giving you a "boost", well, we need some more details!

HHHHMMMMM, snow on the ground with a cold blast from Canada coming in Friday....... Does it count if you roll the scoot out in the driveway and start it up and just sit there on it running for a few minutes?!

But they're closed already, he wanted to get a start on pulling it apart, I would imagine. If he was up here, the trailer would have got him and we'd be in the garage tearing it apart. Got the tools to do it. He mostly needs the axle bearing nut socket, about 2-1/4 to 2-1/2" I believe. got one for a jeep and one for a Blazer in there. Hope you get it fixed pretty easy, Bob, and you've got a dry and warm place to do it in. Merry Christmas and sorry this happened to you, good luck for the rest of your travels, Dan
