  1. I KNEW we would find out whats wrong with you one of these days!!!! Good answers on all of these posts, just remember to keep the heavy stuff up front (that means the liquid beverages for you Charlie!), cooler outside on the tongue, and LEAVE THE WIFES STUFF AT HOME!! That way you'll have more room for the beverages! Don't forget to include a spare on a carrier in front of the trailer too!
  2. He might be busy (since it's planting season) sticking all those big metal tomato stakes in the ground hopin' he finds oil!
  3. I'm actully surprised Dave was able to walk (or is that stumble!) out of Allans place and actually drive again........
  4. Thanks, it was my pleasure. I was wondering if you were gonna stay there tonight
  5. If you had a pair of Squidleys driving light mounts, the wolo or the Stebel will mount right up to it and face the horn towards the front where it needs to point. Had mine on in that position for 2 years now with no problem. Matter of fact, I like to scare old ladies just to make sure it works and they are alert!
  6. If you guys are looking for new pieces, like Rocket posted, www.partshark.com is the place to go. Best prices, quick as anybody can get non-stock parts. They are local to me, so if you have an issue, Chris and I talk regularly and I can help you get it straightened out pronto.
  7. Do a search in the 1st gen tech section about 2nd gear repair. A couple of write-ups and I can send some pics on how to undercut the dogs on 5th gear and the slots on 2nd gear. It'll be bullet proof after that. I'd personally like to buy all the bikes that have 2nd gear issues that guys are buying for parts bikes or to part out, fix them and return them to duty. It's such an easy fix, nothing but a few gaskets and maybe some o-rings to replace while you're in there. A good weekend, starting on Friday night, might have it done by late Sunday night. Shame to tear such beasts down for parts. JMHO Dan
  8. You can't give up! We NEED more pics of her on that bike! I'm sure she looks much better on there than you do! LOL!!
  9. It'll be easier to fix that 2nd gear than it will be to find that collector........
  10. That's like asking if the pope has the Holy Grail stashed away somewhere!!!!!!
  11. Just a note, left Dave at the Waffle House about an hour ago, he's gonna run thru St. Louis to see the Arch and possibly Wrongway and Snarly if'n he can get ahold of them. He hasn't had a chance to jump online since he left yesterday. After St. Louis he'll probably head out to OKC and then turn left..........
  12. He's been dreaming again......... But it looks like one HE** of a party was goin' on in the background :dancefool:
  13. Well, it was a balmy fall day in 2006, working out in the garage when my brother over in Columbus OH called me up. We chit-chatted for a few then he tells me " Hey, this guy down the street (a 2nd hand crotch rocket dealer) has a bike called a Venture thats for sale for 600 bucks, think you might like it", said it started right up, has stereo and everything. So I jump online to read up on this soon to be known to me beast. Anyway, fast forward to that weekend and my son and I load up the trailer and head on over. Good chance to see the family anyway, I think. Before I know it, we're loading the bike up on the trailer and heading back home. Turns out the dealer had picked up 4 bikes from a Harley dealer who took them in on trade, he had only give 200 for the Venture, but in looking back I didn't feel bad at all about letting him make 400 bucks. First bike I've owned in over 30 years, first was a 77 Kawi H2 750, so I wanted something that could approximate that feeling but still be able to carry the wife comfortably and be easy to work on. Over the years, it has definately proven its abilities, like the time I was in Cincinnati on business, was heading out of downtown and it wouldn't shift out of third into 4th. Great I said, I've got 125 miles to go home in 3rd gear! Little did I realize that 65 mph was a low shift point for 3rd! Then on the way around 275 the stator went out! Hot day, fan running etc. I knew at that point I'd be calling for back-up! Well, I got off of I 74 at State road 52 down by the OH border, took it back up home stopping once for gas. I knew this bike was a keeper when I finally pulled up in the driveway, checked the voltage in the battery and only had 8.5 volts left! Never had a car treat me that well! Anyways, after a complete rebuild that winter, it will always find a home in my garage, even if we update! Dan
  14. Somebody broke that pony in right!

  18. Like they say, seafoam (at least a half a can to a full tank, run it till it warms up then shut it off overnight) next dy run the pi** out of it for a couple of hours, put in fresh gas and then run it some more. Check diaphragms carefully like Dingy said. Then check the carb synch, I bet it's off. A bad carb synch will give you all sorts of problems. Good luck!
  19. Sounds to me like the butterfly in carb#2 (front left) is being held open by the idle screw, that will reduce vacuum right there. Take the air box off so you can view the throats directly, back out ALL the idle/synch screws. The butterfly valve should be touching both sides of the throat in all 4 carbs and you should have some slack in the outboard throttle cable. Now bring in the idle screw just until the valve starts to open. Then adjust the synch screw for carb 1 (rear left) just until it starts to open. Do the same with 3 & 4. Then reinstall the air box and try doing a synch again. Remember, carb 2 is non-adjustable except for the idle screw. All 3 other carbs are set to this one. The idle will probably be high at this point, bring it back down to 900-1000 before you do the synch. You should see your vacuum increase and be close to the same on all 4. Other than that, it could possibly be a vacuum leak on 1 & 2. Check to make sure they are seated properly in the lower boots and tight. Good luck and let us know what you find. Dan
  20. Well, after checking the schedule for the summer travel baseball team my son has made, we'll be gone every weekend from the beginning of June till the end of July. Our team is hosting a tournament the weekend of MD, so Rose and I will respectfully have to bow out of this years festivities in Oberlin. At least the Oberlin Inn will be able to rent out another room (or 2, or 3, etc........)!!!!! Was sure looking forward to it this year, Lord knows I need a break. Hope ya'll have fun and REALLY wish we could come.
