  1. Looks good Jack, as soon as the wif looks at it I'll probably reserve.....
  2. Link took me somewhere on the other side of the world!
  3. Sounds like you need to pull that rotor off when you replace the stator and send it up to me for the starter clutch upgrade mod, it's pretty well fried. When you remove the rotor, look on the back side at the clutch and you'll see that the ring is broke. But 9 times out of 10, these beasts WILL get you home........
  4. Sounds good to me, I think a couple of others are already booked in there.

    ??????

My living room when I was still in my 20's!
  6. Gerald, I can't believe that you're getting tired of riding across that crick!
  7. After my first set of ME880's on my 84 and replacing the rear last year with a Venom, I'm going back to a new set of ME880's. I just like the feel better and they lasted as long as they should. I know I'll hear it from the Squid, but he's down in Texas now and can't beat me up!!!!!
  8. Most all are air and damper adjustable for the standard Ventures (if you don't have the Royale), both are mounted on the left lower side of the bike just in front of the passenger foot peg. Damper runs 1-4, with 4 being heaviest and 1 being the lightest damping selection. Schrader valve is located on the same mount, 14-71 PSI is the rated range. Most of us run around 40-50 PSI on the rear shock. You Can upgrade to the MKII Progressive spring rear shock and really make it a smooth ride.
  9. I would think that the arrow pointing up is reserve, pointed sideways is off and pointing down is on (with reserve available).
  10. Heck, I figured with all of Jeffs spare time now, you guys would be joining them!
  11. I guess that's what Jeff is doing!
  12. These bikes are sensitive to the amount of air coming in, that's why the intake slot on the top of the air box is so small. Someone else has done that on here, maybe Skydoc? They can report on what they found. If'n I remember right, it was way too much air (kinda like trying to run it without the top on) coming in and a lot of backfiring was going on. These Yamaha engineers knew what they were doing when they build these things!
  13. Welcome to the world of the self-employed Jeff and Margaret, now you can enjoy working 50-60 hours a week and not minding it!
  14. Pointing up should be reserve.
  15. So what you're saying here is that your bike is just as old and beat up as your 1st gens??
  16. Jeff, what is the voltage/amperage threshold for the breakers? Are they of a bi-metallic type trip or heat-spring? What are you gonna do tomorrow? Inquiring minds want to know!
  17. Only way the coils can drain the battery is if the key is in the on position. Charge the battery, disconnect the positive cable, put an analog (needle) meter in series and if you get voltagfe flowing thru the meter then you have something on with the key in the off position. Remove each of the glass fuses till you find the one that drops voltage to zero. That circuit will lead you to your culprit.
  18. So, if nobody has taken it, I'll calll this morning and grab it.......
  19. And I'd have to say, after experiencing it on my 84, at 100k if it ain't skippin' it's fixed!
  20. As to the possibilities of running over something I agree, but it doesn't explain the appearance of the crack. Doesn't really look to me like a cut, you would have thought that it would be involving the contact tread portion, not just down in the groove.
  21. Earl, your pics look like a lot of stress from utilizing that VMax rear end you got in there!!! Maybe a FEW TOO MANY BURNOUTS? Inquiring minds want to know!!!!!
  22. I believe the date code is 3108 (England), installed a couple of days before we left for Arkansas last year. Sending pics to the local dealer who got it and installed it for me.
  23. HA! GOTCHA! Just took the subframe off for the install of a Progressive rear shock (Thanks to Rick Butler!). Thought I would try and save some time since I have the chrome bumper and trailer hitch on there and take off the rear subframe as a unit. Easy to do! Also going to help when I get that MKII package I bought last year set up to switch out to when we want the bigger bags on for the weekend trips. 1) Remove bags and seat (Oh sorry, easy for the MKI guys!) 2) Remove electrical connectors, radio/CB cables 3) REMOVE THE GAS TANK BOLT! (Don't ask!) 4) Remove mufflers (you'll have to to remove rear axle) 5) Loosen upper bolts but don't remove yet 6) Remove the lower nuts off of the bolts 7) Have helper pick up weight and then you remove the lower bolts then the upper bolts 8) Carefully remove the unit Reverse above to reinstall I figured this saved me about 2-3 hours from having to remove everything and then re-installing after I'm done. While I was in there I pulled the differential and driveshaft for regrease, still had some on there from 2 years ago when I rebuilt it. Pays to use the good stuff! Hope this helps somebody out!
