Question for those that have had rotor jump off.
Dano replied to frankd's topic in General Tech Talk
There's a keyway cut in the crank and rotor, the actual torque on the bolt is 94 ft lbs. Put the bike in gear and that'll be enough to put the torque on.- 18 replies

Well, I guess it's up to you two "locals" to pick a spot for lunch then, as I'll be lucky to find where I've got to go seeings I've never been there (but they tell me it's nice!). Will only have about an hour for lunch, I want to be back on the road to Indy by about 3. Dano

yep, gonna need some work ye, it's BLUE! Better look out for Yammer Dan, he's probably lurking around in the bushes right now trying to figure out how to get it!

Sounds good Cap'n, I'll be on here Saturday sometime w/ updates

Good advice, as the stock r/r only allows 26 amps output to be used. It's the only way to take advantage of the higher output. I'm STILL trying to find more of those Shindegen r/r's we had on the group buy this year to no avail. Dano

Rear Fender Tabs
Dano replied to DesertRider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Me thinks your fender tabs are broke, as mine is a "one piece" tab that extends 3/8ths of an inch forward from the rear fender and slides down in the clip from the gas tank. -
I should be in Chillicothe somewhere between 11- 11:30, it's about 3-1/2 hours from the house, probably leave closer to 7:30 to leave a little more time down around Parkersburg. Never know if Skid or the Yammer might swing up there for lunch! Isn't Hummingbird from the Chili?

No, she has a wedding pre-planning day with the daughter next Sunday. Oh yeah, THAT (the proposal) just happened last Sunday!!

I'm taking a ride next Sunday the 19th from Indy over to Parkersburg WV via I-74 to Cincinnati then US 50 over and down to Parkersburg to deliver a trailer. Leaving Indy by 8 am, leaving Parkersburg for the return trip by 3. Anybody wanna join in the fun? Could be just part way or the whole trip, I don't mind. Maybe a quick M&E in Parkersburg? Let me know. Dano

Great. Now the 2nd genners gotta put up with Mini passing them too! Good looking rear lighting, when does he put the turbo on there?!!

Where and when in WV? I'm planning on riding to Parkersburg next Sunday to deliver a trailer.......

I'd rather go for a ride and think of God, than sit in church and think about riding... Best sig line I've ever read!

#3 cylinder oiling
Dano replied to twowheelhorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Pressurize the cylinder, then listen for air coming out of the exhaust. If none, remove the air box cover and air filter and listen there. A valve may be stuck open for some reason. If no air detected there, remove the oil fill cap and listen for air there. That would be the rings passing air. This way you'll know whats going on before you start yanking stuff apart. Good luck and let us know whats going on, we'll help you sort it out. Dan -
Cruise Control Cable

I don't think it should be that loose, I'll take a look at the 87 tomorrow and see where the adjustments are. Dan -
I'm sending out prayers for ya Dan, hope you make it back from your mission alive!

83 fuel petcock valve
Dano replied to DesertRider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No restrictions= great low end power, need tuned restriction for a good top end. Unless of course you have unlimited horsepower. Then you just need some short tubes to direct the flames! Good job, have fun putting her all the way back together. Dan -
83 fuel petcock valve
Dano replied to DesertRider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
The front half of the rear fender has two tabs on either side that slide onto two tabs on the back of the gas tank. I would suggest putting that on before the sub-frame (I know-too late!) but I was able to get mine in there after I had re-assembled the sub-frame to the bike (and hey Sourpuss- I mean Snaggle- I did it BY MYSELF even with the hitch on there!) and the upper rear of that piece goes over the back half. That's all that holds it in! You done good Grasshopper (Desertrider!) by going in and tackling this. You are well on your way to doing anything to this bike that you need to! And BTW, how DOES that puppy sound without the mufflers? Dano -
another 2nd gear question
Dano replied to DesertRider's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I believe those numbers have to do with matching the rods and caps per thew cylinders, noticed that on my 84 when I rebuilt it. I've been wrong once before tho........ -
Sounds like the TCI is heating up and dropping out. You'll probably need to pull it out and re-solder the pins on there and possibly replace the diodes. Also relocate it to the top of the air box to keep that thing cool! Do a search under the 1st gen tech section on TCI and you'll find all the info you need.
