  1. Ummm, is this AFTER I get to ride again?????
  2. Looking at the parts fiche, it looks like you'll have to try to tap it out from the right side. You was right there! Take a look at http://www.partshark.com, click on "parts fiche", then Yamaha Motorcycle Parts, scroll down to "Replacement Parts" area then scroll down to 1984, XV 1200D as the bike and "rear wheel" for the correct fiche. #5 is the rightside bearing, #3 the left "cylindrical bearing" and #4 as the "collar" you're talking about. This will show you how its put together. Good luck!
  3. Good job Jeff, hope it continues after the Hydros are over! (I'm just learning THAT part....)
  4. That's the way I'd like it done in a new garage.
  5. Sorry to hear of this, a sad way of losing one.
  6. Thanks once more to ALL who have helped, it has gone alot towards showing the wife and family HOW much you guys care and can help someone they might not even know face-to-face! I hereby promise to try and meet you all one of these days thru future riding chances, heck we even like riding out to the west coast (1/2 way there last year out to Cody!) and WILL make it out there one day! RIGHT Condor?? But of course, we will meet all of you who make Maintenance Day at Dons this year!
  7. Got you guys covered, just PM me and we'll get it set up. Gosh I wanna get back workin'!!!
  8. I gotta get back into it, still gotta see the doc about shoulder/wrist, was sick yesterday had to cancel the appointment......
  9. Go block with a wood roofing build, run electric around the top and drop down the wall in conduit to metal boxes ( a little higher initially, but better in the long run), I'll help you online or phone with that part..... This'll pay in security for your area!! PS, see what insulation put into your blocks would cost
  10. I got your starter clutch problem......
  11. Nope, electrical issues can drive you there tho! Great idea to check the bulbs straight back to the battery. A good possibility, if it has "flashed" the contacts, there could just be a touch of metal left or they have burnt corrosion on them. Usually want to use a relay to run high-powered "fog" lites, too much amperage (110-130 watts / 12v= 9.1666- 10.83333 amps), most switches are only good for a few amps, read the side of the switch.....

    Step 1

Maybe a bit of CLEANING first while you're waiting!
  13. Check your grounding point, sounds like you're reading the voltage THRU the light but not back to a ground point (ya gotta know how electricity works!), so the juice is flowing but not getting back to the battery. You may need to go thru all the wiring to the lights, by checking continuity back to ground with a self-powered "check light" or meter. The ground MAY be good enuff to "see" voltage in the connector but not good enuff to pass "amperage" of the light bulb back to the battery. You can check it both ways (ground to the bulb, hot power to the bulb, then check the two wires together at the connector) like this by having one point on the battery (+ or -) the other lead to the opposite polarity. A self-powered "check lite" or a "resistance" reading meter will be the only way to do this. Good luck and let us know what you find. Dano PS Good directions for the work required REALLY helps!!
  14. Miss being able to come down there and help you guys, even for just a weekend.
  15. I wish to Thank all of those who have become involved, either trailer raffle tix or just sending some $$. Now if someone could "snap their fingers" and make the problems all go away, I'd be out riding today! Never the less, I'll keep at the recovery, I'll know Tuesday how the MRI and Cat scan comes out, it was GREAT having my daughter and her husband take care of these! Dang shots in the shoulder have a way of creating their own pain! Getting over that today tho. You guys are all great, I had not figured it could be so helpful, even with a few members across the globe participating! I shall forever be in the "help fix your bike" category here as has been mentioned a couple of times, as that is my nature anyway. Here or on the road, that's where it'll happen. We'll see a lot of you at Dons for MD this year, that is the road trip that WILL happen this year, even if it's by 4 wheels instead of two! Probably won't get to do the IR, even tho it's a lot closer this year than before, my freedom somewhat constrained at this time..... Thanks everyone, Dano
  16. Good to see you back Ruffy. I'll find out Friday what they gotta do....
  17. D**n good job Stan. I'm glad you were able to follow the ideas here to get this done. Too bad we're smarter than Yammi mechanics!! Better watch pulling the front wheel up after you shift into second!
  18. Ride it easy for the first 100 miles or so to break them in Dang I wish I could ride here! Already 60 plus up to 71 this afternoon!
  19. Remember when you tear apart the engine to fix it, replace the two sets of washers at the middle gear end and undercut (angle grind) the gears (especially 2nd!) to help them stay together! Yamaha didn't allow enuff contact between 2nd and the "driven" gear to keep them from coming apart....... you'll see this when you open up the case...... Any q's on doing this just PM me
  20. So does mine, good reason not to put them on, but I added passenger highway pegs on the one that just got towed away! I'll add the pegs to the new one when I get it......
  21. I like the setup, got another q that I see from the pic. Do the rear bag top rail(s) interfere with the passengers leg(s)? Thought about those for mine but we were worried about that. Good looking bike.
  22. Yes, it was a DEER, not a DEAR! Rose has taken care of me for the last 4 months. It happened on Oct. 25th at 7:25 in the morning. I care more about bad traffic than bad animals, so the road I usually go down had 2 cars coming at me, so with a little consideration (back car passing the one in front with me in the way!, small country roads...) I went up to the next road that doesn't have much traffic and THAT is where the deer (8 point buck) and I met up. I don't remember ANYTHING from there on till about a week from getting out of the hospital so I guess I'm lucky there. Recovery has been slow, no power worth a hoot in my left arm with pain in my wrist and shoulder, therefore FINALLY I get the MRI and the CAT scan. Not being able to work and do things around the house has REALLY got me dithered and feeling nothing is getting accomplished so I hope this helps in the recovery department. I continue to do the physical workouts that I can (not much!) so that I can get back to riding ASAP! I want to personally thank all of you who have participated, this is really helping in keeping the wolves away from the door. I am totally indebted to you all, if we meet and your bike needs some work, I'll be your guy! Good luck to those who have entered for the trailer, while I had it at my house over last winter I sure thought it would look good behind my Red 84! It's a great piece of equipment and will last along time! Thanks again and I'll recover! Dano
  23. Had an athletic booster club meeting to go to........
  24. You got what came thru here awhile ago. We've only got a 1/4" here and it'll be gone this afternoon.
  25. I'm starting to get hungry now....... Happy Birthday George!!
