  1. Sent you a PM reply....... Waiting on mine!!
  2. Just ONE of their surprises on the way up north!
  3. Best thing to do is fix it, think about bevel cutting the 5th gear dogs and the 2nd gear slots to match so they try to pull each other together under acceleration (that's what I did to my '84) and I tried mightily but could never make it skip again.
  4. Thanks for reminding me George, I'll let him know to try that with both boxes and see how it comes out.
  5. Pickup coils not the problem. Only happens when the TCI warms up. When that happens and he switches immediately to a cool TCI, bike runs good till that one warms (heats) up. Told him about the Czech units and the possible cost,,,,,,don't know if he wants to go that high in $$ yet.
  6. I just talked with the guy who bought my 84, seems like as long as the TCI (relocated on top of the air box) is cool, bike runs great. As soon as it warms up, bike runs like crap. I let him use one of my extra 1st gen TCI boxes and it acts the same but just takes longer to heat up and then start running like crap. Anybody have any experience with this? Anybody repair these PIA TCI's? Or is the new programmable box from Czechoslovakia the only real way to fix it?
  7. Happy Birthday Lewis, glad you're still with us!!
  8. Welcome back Lowell, long time since I've seen ya! Hope you're doing OK out there! STILL laughing on your joke!!:rotf::rotf:
  9. I've got a set of knobby's on my '77 Yammi IT400 dirt bike you can borrow if'n you want to put 'em on your Venture.........
  10. Same from here
  11. You could stop and see Yammer then, he's along the way; I jus' saw you were south of here and knew you'd have to go back North some day.......
  12. A few things to consider, I've already been down the thought pattern on this..... 1) Leave the fuel tank where it is, low center for weight balance and not too high on the bike to allow "hunkerin' down" when twistin' that right wrist a lot, saves a lot of work...... 2) If you're good at metal fabrication, consider building a tight "skin" to wrap around the engine and front end to create a "crotch rocket" look to it..... (don't really like the "naked" bike look...) and you could continue the sheet metal all the way back but leaving the entire back tire exposed..... 3) Work on the motor (early 83's have the most power available, you can go into the 84's with a bit more work to produce the wanted free HP), you could include valve work, carb build-up, installing a VMax carb mounting unit to tie your front-to-back cylinders together with a 2 carb feed to each, using a thumb-worked slide switch to operate.... Might as well go with the new programmable ignition control device to be able to change your "spark curve" a bit for most power..... 4) Leave the dash on there, including it and the headlight in the "skin" work, that way you can include a small windshield like a "crotch rocket" for a good speed look..... Build it like this and I can guarentee you ability to raise up that front tire!! Considering a full built 83-84 is capable of doing this, it'd be a heck-of-a-lot easier to do that on this one!!!
  13. I looked at installing one inside the left front cover, not enuff room and no "easy" way to get it mounted there. I thought about the space up under the fairing 'tween the forks, but decided it would take too much room away from the fork's traveling distance...... Still thinkin' about a location tho....separate relay and feed from the battery would negate any power problems.......
  14. That's why I've always gotten a one-ton extended van to work with, never know what you need to handle in the future!! With a 3k rated and tagged trailer and 9k plate on the truck, I've been loaded up to 11,500 lbs at the scales for a long road trip before!! With the standard cargo I carry in the van (electrical contractor), it rides better than our Durango does!! I consider the new "Smart Car" as just a spare tire for the van! :cool10:
  15. So,,,,,are you heading back up thru or close to Indy?
  16. Yep, I fixed one for Big Dude a couple of years ago, seems like he hit the gas hard when he shifted into second gear and he's a bit heavy....... Had to tear it apart (the motor) to pull the tranny apart and repair..... got a new spring along with the cog, seems like the one Yammi replaced it with is a bit shorter and less strength.....
  17. Sorry to hear of it, prayers go out to ya. Hard to put a related one down.
  18. Congrats on getting closer to "re"tirement time Bob, miss seeing you and Becky this year, but I'm sure you might just make it thru Indy on your various nation-wide travels in the short future!!
  19. The guy that owns Cycle Outfitters actually worked for Yamaha back in the day and helped develop the V4 Venture motor,,,,,he can tell you some good stories.....
  20. I ran the ME880's on my 84 for 4 years, liked them a lot and never had a problem out of them. They are currently on my 08 2nd gen but when I get them up to around 5k on the odometer I'll probably put Venoms on there.
  21. Can't believe that Yammer is working on his skills with another 2nd Gen!!!!! Thanks for hooking up with me and helping with the trailer travels Rick.......
  22. I remember when my dad passed 17 years ago, I was able to see him the last moment of consciousness he had (a carotid vessel blew apart in his neck....) and the wife and I were with him when he passed a few days later, a good feeling for us..... I know how you feel and am with you in spirit
  23. Or is it a separate bore from the wheel? Able to be replaced? Or a sleeve and a bit smaller bolt used to fix the originals? Questions, questions, questions.........
  24. Happy Birthday Bob, I just turned 55 on the 2nd, I guess we're both lions!
  25. Good talkin' with ya, sorry you're having problems so far but it'll get better!
