  1. Forgot, just got done with the kitchen drywall. After 5 months of work, it's finally coming together. Dan
  2. Thanks again. Between the manual and you guys, I am learning what it takes to own these bikes, instead of just riding them. It is indeed a lifestyle, and I like it!
  3. What's weird is mine only does it at a specific speed, no other. Almost exactly at 65 mph. Weird, will check w/ straight edge, check pads, might be pads are just wore out allowing "floppy stuff". THanks again guys, Dan p.s.---shouldn't we be riding or working (me) instead of being online?!?!?!? :cool10::cool10::cool10:
  4. Thanks guys, when I get done hanging drywall in the kitchen tonight (after 5 months remodel) I'll pull the rear caliper and check. Need to check pads anyway. Thanks again! Dan
  5. At exactly 64-68 mph, I get a clack-clack-clack sound from the right rear of bike. Approx. 120 times per minute. Can't find anything loose, speed specific, don't have anyone to ride next to me. It only does it at these speeds. Any ideas? New me880's w/2k on them, no bumps noticible on rear tire. I'm stumped!!! Thanks, Dan
  6. Myself also, love to build instead of buy. Now,,, if I can get done with all the other projects...... Dan
  7. Crane is nice, Harbor Freight lift better, but they can't go out in the back yard and play like this one!!! I'm jealous!!! Dan
  8. Larn' sumtin new every day! Thanks Denden. More knowledge means smarter wrenches! Dan
  9. As I understand it, the 83's vacuum line comes from the intake side of the carb (above the carb), and the 84 & up bikes come from below the carb. I'm not sure if it's a restrictor or a gate valve to keep the vacuum in the line.
  10. I guess now that the 84 is running good, and I've got total clutch slippage in higher gears when I get it on, I'll add the Barnett to the list for this winters teardown & re-build. :mo money::mo money: Dan
  11. I found out that the '83 diaphragm is pricier than 84 & up. Don't know why, but the 84+ unit is still only 55.53 Dan
  12. Thanks once again, guys, hope to meet you all sometime. The wife and I are going to try to go up to Angola for the meet & eat. Hummmm, help a friend pour concrete, orrrrrrrrrr, take a day and ride up to Angola and see some cars and friends. Difficult choice!
  13. OK, it's just like anything I work on. Carbs rebuilt, synched, new plugs, wires coming from Buckeye Performance, tires, stator, factory radio. NOW it's the water pump!!!!!!! Please give me an idea of the parts needed. It just started seeping from the weep hole, so I know the seals about gone. Recommendations, PLEASE!!!!!! Hopefully not a complete unit, over 200 bucks!!!!!
  14. Thanks squeeze and gearhead, will try it tonight after the garage cools down. 98+ (F) here today. Dan
  15. www.flatoutmotorcycles.com has the best pricing for slider diaphragms. $55.53 on website as of this morning. That is 20-30 bucks less than anyone else. Web order only, plus shipping. Their counter guys work off of comission, so if you order over the web, that's what you're saving. I live 10 miles from there. But if I order over the counter, they cost me $72.00!
  16. George, not that I can tell, it just won't lay in the groove. I have the slides all the way in, but being new, it just wants to pop (flex) back out. I just wasn't sure if there was a trick to it. Thanks, Dan
  17. Ok guys, how do you get the lip to stay in the groove while you're trying to get the cover on? Do you use a little form-a-gasket or what?
  18. Thanks, Tim, you must have been reading my mind, as I need to do all these things tomy bike. Overcharging, phantom miss on right front cylinder, etc. Once again, Thanks Dan
  19. Yes, I know what you mean. If you need it to be there, you want it there. Possibly not enough fuel feed for that. Perhaps too much air for the lower fuel flow (lean condition). Dan
  20. Haven't laid my eyes on it, but follow the vacuum line that comes off of carb #2 (front left), it comes off of the manifold below the carb (a small 1/8" line with a check valve in it), and it should lead to it. I suspect it's behind the battery box by the TCI unit. Hope this helps. Dan
  21. Yes, it is "wide open throttle". Perhaps there was a typo, the redline on my 84 is 7500, not 5500. I have heard from others that there is a rev-limiter on these bikes, but it comes in past 7500 somewhere. Does it happen in every gear? Consistently at the same rpm? Famous question, have you synched the carbs? Others have more info than me, I just know more dumb questions I haven't got figured out for myself, yet. Others will post......Squeeze knows EVERYTHING about these bikes! Good luck, Dan
  22. Rides ridden, lessons learned, hope we learn from your unfortunate incident, I know I have. Hope you can get her back together. Bunch of stuff on ebay right now, including 1 lot of relays and under fairing stuff. I've got my ebay set up so it emails me when new postings of 83-93 Venture stuff is added. You might try that.:sign **** happens: Dan
  23. Is that a vacuum port on the lower left? Possibly the ignition advance module??? You guys know all the smart guys got to go to Vogel and are heading home now!!! Good Luck, Dan
  24. If you have the left side cover off, it is directly below the carbs. If you look into the valley of the motor from the left side, you will see the carbs. Look under the gold bracket that runs from the front carb to the rear carb. It has 2 small (1/8") rubber hoses coming through it. Directly under this bracket (it also has a warning label on it that says "Caution: read service manual first.....), if you look between the 2 small hoses, you will see the head of an approximately 1/2" diameter scew head that looks like it has bumbs on it. This is the "knurled" idle adjust screw. You will turn it towards the front of the bike to lower rpm's. Sorry, wife's got the camera or I would send pics. Hopefully this helps, if not I will be back in about 20 minutes or call me on my cell at 317-370-0139 Dan
