    [ Also make sure your washer/spacer on your axle is between the wheel and caliper bracket if it is not this will cause the brakes to drag too. Don't ask me how I know that part:whistling: buddy Same here!

    Thanks guys, moot point now. It went and I went up to 335 and I quit. I figured it was going to go for more than I wanted to pay, so I let it go. Maybe wishing for more than I could expect. Well, I was gonna fix mine anyway, plus vin # on motor wouldn't match bike, hassle with LEO's for that, I guess I'll stick to mine. Thanks for the input, Dan

    I've thought about that. Is it a drastic difference between the two on acceleration? Or fix mine and be done with it? I've got an hour and a half to make my decision. Dan

    Thinking about picking up an 86 on ebay (all platic gone, just frame, engine,etc.) for the motor to put in my 84 so I don't have to fix 2nd gear. That's the only reason for getting it. Thoughts? Right now it's at 261.00, maybe goes up, I wouldn't give over 350 for it. Thanks, Dan

    I myself ride and drive defensively all the time. One thing I do, that I've not seen yet, is I ride with my high-beam on during the day. I've not had anybody blink theirs at me and I know that it gives me that extra bit that I might not have without it. With the prevalence of DRLs on all the cars, it might help distinguish you from the cages. Just my 2 cents worth, Ride safe and often, Dan

    When I got my bike last fall at 54k, it would (and still does) jump out when you get on it 2nd gear. Sometimes I forget and it reminds me quickly. Buckeye Performance is 400.00 for the kit to repair. High/low? Dan

    I would sign up also, even though I read pretty much everyday. BBUUTTTT, it would also make a quick visual reference for repair/diagnoses posts that you could print and place in a notebook for the workshop. Then, you wouldn't have to get online, get hooked into reading all the new posts (who me?) and then search for your answer. More time working on the bike, less time online = more time riding! Just my opinion Dan

    Not to highjack, but I don't have the separate dipstick for measuring rear diff oil level. Anybody know the parameters I can use to check this? Thanks, Dan

    I noticed the pinstriping on your bike. It looks similar to what is on my 84. Do you (or anybody else) know if it is factory or personal? Mines a little different, but same style.

    Once again I'll say, without this site, I'd have still been working on past repairs, debating on which way to go with what, would've had the kitchen done 2 months ago, etc., etc., etc. Right now I should be doing invoices for my side work this evening, butttttttttt----- where am I?!?!?!?!?!?

    Did mine in the garage 1st time, putting it up on center stand. Second out front of the house, didn't have kickstand down all the way + on gravel. Only rolled on the guards, no damage. Dan

    Mine is a titled 84, but the manuf. tag on right bottom rail gives "born-on" date of 10/83. I wonder if I've got the frame upgrade? Any way to tell from visual inspection? Dan

    When I first got my bike last fall, if it was 40+, sunny and not too windy, I'd take it out just to get used to it and see how she ran. A pair of Carharts and the open vents, I was just fine. Now if I could figure out how to vent engine air up to the handgrips, I'd be rich. Dan

    WHilst riding to and from Fort Wayne today, with it clacking, dumby me finally figured out to tap the rear brake pedal. Any guesses as to what went away? Checked pads at rest stop, just flopping around in the caliper. Picked up the black "goo" from A-Zone, will put it on tonight. Thanks again guys, sometimes I forget the lessons my dad taught me way back when. Dan

    It also has to do with not developing a flat spot in the tire where it contacts the ground, with the weight of the bike on it all winter. Dan

    Just a personal preference, but Citgo is owned by Hugo Chavez, the leader of Venezuela. He is using his countries oil to finance his own personal and political gain. I myself will not buy from him. Sorry to highjack, off the soapbox now. Dan:sign13:
