  1. Like Wild hair (Lowell) says: After a 9985 mile ride, goin' 15 miles around town to make 10000 would be cheatin! Shame on you, Squid! (Hope you're feeling better) Dan
  2. I had a 2 hour window yesterday afternoon- 5-7 PM while the roads were dry and it was still a little light out. Rain and darkness coming. Let's go! Oops, sons basketball game at 6. Hope you guys had fun! Dan
  3. Very nice place, really like the stacked porches, something you don't find anymore. Remember the houses that were plain on the outside, but beautiful on the inside with all the plaster and woodwork?! That's what this house looks like. I wonder what the original exterior was like before they put the siding on? Interesting project, good luck with it. If I'm in the area over the next couple years, I'll bring my toolbag and spend a weekend. Love working on these houses. Dan
  4. To add to the funny side, you could have jumped off the bike, let it get totaled, took the money, bought a pristine quiet (and fast) 1st gen and still had money left over to trick it out! Seriously though, glad you were alert and able to escape. Could have been a whole lot worse. Dan
  5. Thanks for your input even tho I bought from them before. They have good parts, slow shipping, and when it comes to replying to my emails - They don't!..... Since they came to this family group maybe they will improve their service? Will call around first and see what comes up. buddy Sorry about your previous delay, I would let Chris at Flatout know about it, could have been a back order. He can explain their process. Still the best prices on the web, though. Dan
  6. I paid 600 for my beautiful red 1st gen MK1, put tires on her, changed the stator after riding back from Cincinnati overheating, not charging, and only shifting up to 3rd gear (stupid little tab holding in the shift pins bent out and dropped the 4th gear pin into the pan). Doing my 2nd gear fix this winter. All told, I'll have about 1500 in her, and not be skeered (for you southern guys!), to run her anywhere. She's comfortable, the wife likes her (unlike my other girlfriends!) and she takes up little room in the garage. And, she makes sure I will make it home! Handles the twisties just like I want, can beat about anything, sounds like a good deal to me! Spend your 15 grand if you want, but I'll keep my Classic forever! Dan PS-- If I'm not mistaken, our Ambassador rides a 1st Gen also, doesn't he!? Can't mess with our elder statesman!
  7. It's probably not helping, but you can get new diaphragms thru Flatout for about 55 bucks each (cheapest anywhere). www.flatoutmotorcycles.com When you send in your order or inquiry, make sure you mention that you're a member of Ventureriders. Dan
  8. Prayers are going out to both families from ours. I recently had an Uncle pass, and I have an Aunt in Florida who is close to passing (Lord knows how she is hanging on). I wish I were down in texas so I could help 'Snake, since I just got done doing my kitchen, I'm all primed and ready to go again. Good luck to you all down there, you've got my support (for what it's worth!) Dan
  9. Hmmmm, sounds like a normal spring here in the midwest, what with our tornadoes and such. You never lived till you stand outside your garage and watch one pass by within a hundred yards of you. Perfectly calm, normal around me. A good football throw away, complete and utter devastation. Happened last year. Good luck to you guys out there, and we'll send a snow shovel for those of you in the higher elevations. Dan
  10. But, were there any ponds around to put it in?!? Seriously, thanks Don, and your vacation is WAAAAAY too short! Dan
  11. I wouldn't vote for the one that most agreed with my answers, but the guy I like was second. Most interesting! Thanks for putting it up here. Dan
  12. I agree with you Squeeze, the losses inherent in the 110 volt system do not outweigh the lower voltage advantages. But, like you say, too late to change! Kinda like buying a 2nd gen when you should have gotten a 1st gen to begin with! Costs more, bigger load than you need, cost more to fix!:rotf: Dan
  13. On the other Hand, i'm tinkering around with my EFI and i'm 4 Weeks behind the Schedule. Need to get the 40mm Throttle Bodies completed and connected to the Airbox. Computer is tested and partly programmed. A other Exhaust needs to get a O2-Sensor mounted. Once i have the new Intake System ready, mounting and Rest of the programming should be done on a Saturday. New Schedule says, first Flight should be in first Week in March. Weather shouldn't be Problem then. At least some Days per Week.--- Squeeze It's nice to be you, Squeeze!! Good thing you don't live in the States or you would be to busy working on everybody elses bike! Good luck and give us the info on how it runs when you get done! And pics, too! Dan
  14. [quote=KiteSquid;161943]I have had no problem with my 2nd gear... is this something I need to worry about??? Nope, just a 1st gen MK1 sitiation. That and the stator are the only known problems for us 1st gens. However, you guys get to deal with----- CHirps, whining, overloaded electrical systems, looks like an HD, gets lost in a parking lot full of HD's, hotter than heck at a traffic light in summer, no where to mount your stuff, etc., etc., etc.:rotf: We still like ya', tho. Dan
  15. Thank the Lord above they are both OK. IF they need help when they come through Indiana, let me know, or call on cell (in members list). I'll help nout however it may be needed. Dan
  16. It sounds like rain is getting into the receptacles or where you're plugging in your charger. Put a baggie over the end of the cable where you plug in your charger, then go to your favorite "big-box" hardware store and get a "bubble cover" to fit over your outside receptacle. That way, it will cover the cord and plug while it is "in use". THis will probably cure your problem.
  17. Sorry Spear, old eyes aren't the same. THought it said Squeeze up there, then tried to edit it and couldn't do it. Same for you guys, though. 240 volt system is just better than 120. Now we can get into the discussion of 50 hertz versus 60 hertz for the carrier/ sine wave! By the way, have u heard back from Flatout yet? I stopped in there today, and Chris and Jim both had your email out discussing it when I came in the door.
  18. The Maxxes VBoost-System fits bolt on on the 1Gen's and surely give you a second Stage -Squeeze Send me more snow and I'll put the WHOLE Vmax setup on there!! Just need the money, then RandyA and I can line'em up and see what's up! Dan
  19. Send the snow over here to Indy, can't plow "dusting of Snow". If I can't plow, bike don't get fixed!!!!! Dan
  20. WOW! I hope I didn't miss anything! I could only read the red print, might have missed a step!! Thanks for the input Squeeze, I'll check this out when I have my bike apart this winter. Dan
  21. Saw this live on TV Monday night, this dudes got some kahunies! He did it twice!!! Dan
  22. Yes, that would be the same thing. They also make an "Arc Fault" Circuit Breaker that detects small current leakages (like an extension cord under a carpet getting hot and shorting out) that work on entire circuits (mandated for bedroom circuits). By the way, your 240 volt electrical system in Europe is much more efficient than our 120/240 volt system here in the states. Different devices (switches, etc.) but same wiring cables. Dan
  23. My understanding of those GFI's are that they trip as soon as a very small amperage (milliamp) is sent to ground - if you have no means to ground you have no GFI.. Actually, this is a falsehood. THe GFI detects the current running through the hot and neutral, if it detects up to 3-5 milliamp difference, it will trip. That is why you are allowed to replace a 2 prong outlet with a GFI if you need the ground pin. (As long as you identify there is no ground present. ) I would guess that the lost neutral is on a receptacle somewhere before the GFI (back-stabbed or under scew). I agree on the electrician coming out to fix it. Only way to do it right. Dan
  24. Guess I don't need to say the same thing, then, huh. Dan
  25. I'll be glad to come down and fix it for ya, but I would have to bring the bike and you'd have to put me up for awhile! Master Electrician for 25 years, been to Houston to wire up a conveyor for Federal-Mogul before. Need some heat (18f outside) Any more reasons?!? Dan
