Just an Oily Question
Dano replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If you are driving the truck, and he is riding his bicycle, you are right!!! By the way, you would have to wait till the Bahamians were off their break, or lunch, or siesta, or smoke break or,,,,,,,,,,, till you could even ask the question!!! (Been there, waited on that!)- 41 replies

There is only a smaller Spring coming to light. The Spring sits on the Tip of the Pinion Gear. Normally it won't come loose, but if so, just make sure it's sits there and goes into the Boring in the Shaft when you mount the Pumpkin. Squeeze, I found the spring when I pulled mine out, but my shaft (84) has a post for the spring to go over. It doesn't want to go over the post. SHould it? Dan

He had gotten between the floors thru a small entry outside due to the kitchen remodel last year, had not been able to complete new siding on that side of the house yet. I believe a double barrell shotgun would have been better, but the wife over-ruled me. Can't figure out why! So you ready to go now? Dan Pic of new kitchen

Just an Oily Question
Dano replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Wow Brad, from the pics, looks like this is a spare motor project. That one piston sure needs cleaned up. I assume that's why the caps are off the cams in pic 1. Looks like a load of fun and I really would like to do that someday. Let us know how it goes! Dan- 41 replies

Just an Oily Question
Dano replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
In the meantime, which way does the waterpump turn????????? Carl, I'm not sure, as I haven't had the cover off while motors runnin', but I'm sure it's AROUND IN A CIRCLE!!!!:rotf: Sorry Carl, just couldn't help it!! It's raining cats and dogs, tired of this weather, can't finish cleaning motor while it's raining outside (re: Dragonslayers reply to my question in his post on "Getting motor ready for show" I think). GO ahead and get me for this, I deserve it! Seriously, when I take covers off to do my waterpump rebuild whilst I have the rest of the dang thing torn apart, I will do my best to answer this age old question. INQUIRING MINDS WANT TO KNOW! Best of luck, Dan- 41 replies

Glad you found your problem, enjoy your trip to Daytona. Finally got my motor half-way clean yesterday after spending 6 hours getting a bird out of my house. Great way to waste a 60d day! Ride safe! Dan

We have same problem on 1st gens, mostly caused by to much oil in the crankcase. The 'case vent will draw extra oil up through breather tube to the air box, where it seems to want to set on the left side of the box. Oil being the slippery devil it is, will seep out of the boots on the left side and drench the tops of your carbs. One place to start. Good luck, Dan
-
So who gets the goodies for suggesting the airbox????????????????? You know thats all we're in it for!!!!! Laughing with you,, Dan
-
Just a stupid question, have you tried it with air filter and box cover on? THese things are sensitive to too much air coming in, even drilling extra holes in air box cover will upset them. Just tryin' to help. Dan

Don, if I don't get busy on this bike and get it done,,,,,, I'll have to bring the van and tools to your maintenance day... The 16" 2x6's might fill up the truck, though!:rotf: Dan

1st Gen Driving Lights
Dano replied to lonestarmedic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Looks great, now I know what mine will look like when I'm done. Might be different lights, but same effect. Dan -
I'll check the forks and gears, maybe have it apart by Sunday night. Let you know. THanks Dragon. Dan

Second gear \ install issue
Dano replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'm glad to see what I've got to look forward to! Better not tell my son, huh?! Dan -
We need a report from our brother Spear "down-under", who may have even been there, to let us know what was going on! :rotf::rotf: As far as it being true, I don't doubt it, cause it doesn't sound like they were too smart to begin with! Dan

It's actually a VMax engine and frame, they're the only ones that have the fins on the cylinders. I like it, but I wouldn't want to ride behind someone and ruin that chrome job. Dan

If you supersize the pic, you can see that indeed, the left fork has separated from the axle!!!! Can anyone say----" NOT RATED FOR FULL LOAD OF BIKE STANDING ON IT'S NOSE"--- Next year there will be a sticker on the tank warning against this manuever. Or it's a simple case of non-maintenance catching up with the poor bloke. Anyway, it's back to the same- "Use for intended purposes only!" Dan

Dragon, kept the hose in the garage, in the 40's- 50's this weekend, gonna do it in the driveway!!! Dan
-
Also there is a tool that you will need to compress the transmission shaft assy to push the heavy spring down to remove the retaining clip to disassemble the shaft with the gears. Joe Joe, there are a couple guys here that built their own rig for this, pretty simple, gonna try that. Thanks though, Dan

Second gear \ install issue
Dano replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Like I learned from my Dad, If there's no blood loss, and no parts left over from rebuilding a motor, then you didn't really do a good job!!!!! Just seems like that's how it goes sometimes!!! Dan -
Hey Dragon, if'n he don't need it, I sure will. I'm gonna check my stealers for shim swap, if they do, I'll beg you, if they don't, I'll have to get ahold of Buddyrich's kit. Dan
-
You could always take the original tank, go to the parts store and buy some "Kreem". You clean out the tank with the stuff provided, apply the sealer, it coats the tank and also prevents rusting of the tank. Done this toa couple of dirt bikes, works great and doesn't cost that much. Good luck, Dan PS-- Don't know about the neck thing, somebody will, though.

Changing brake pads
Dano replied to Bulldawg's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I forget the name of it, but on my rears I had to use a brake pad adhesive to keep them from clattering around. Drove me nuts trying to figure out the noise! Cheap insurance, though. Good luck, Dan
