Just a thought, but where does the neutral indicator switch on the shift cam fit in? If it's not making contact in neutral, would this cause your problem? Dan

Sounds like that's the way to go, Mark. Just be carefull bending that tab back over so you don't break it. It'll be pretty weak there at the bend. Dan -

At least the important stuff, like satellite TV, is working good. That, and a coffee pot, is all that's neccesary! Hey Frog, you might have to set 1 of your bikes up like they did the tanks at Normandy, you know-- full float skirts and temporary pontoon floats!!!! The "oil pump sump screen" (which is what I should have said the first time) is under the motor towards the back end. If you've still got the pan off, take a flashlight and see if you can look in there or possibly run/ drag a small wire between the screen and the plate. If i remember correctly, I think that plate/ cap just pops off and on, just carefully start at 1 corner. It will be there somewhere! And yes, once you find it, put it back in and bend the tab back over. Mine looked like it had made contact with the clutch basket. Wonder if the basket can flex under certain conditions? I should have looked at mine closer when I had it off. I replaced that retainer ring when I fixed my second gear. Good luck, Dan -

The 30mm is for the clutch boss nut, the 32mm is for the crankshaft nut under the left cover. I agree with Squeeze, if you broke the clutch boss nut loose without something holding the clutch boss itself, then it is in gear and it will have some back and forth play. The shaft that the pushrod is going through is actually the drive axle, so it is steel. Glad to hear of the magnet trick, in case in 15 years or so I need a new o-ring on there! When you rotate it back and forth, is the total travel in one direction 2"? Depending on what gear it's in, total lash back to the rear wheel could be that much. Dan

I would have posted pics of the frame just back from the sandblasters, but I know this is a PG rated site! I didn't think the 2nd genners could stand to see a 1st gen nekked like that! Here are the latest pics, I'm at the shop with first coat on, and yes, RandyA, we put the gussets in this PM just b4 paint! Pics of that included. Get these loaded on here and go back down to the booth, spray the second coat then let it set till SUnday and come up and pick it up. Shoot, camera won't upload to this 'puter, will have to wait till I'm home. Boss didn't load windows picture on here. Dan -

I too have not been able to meet anyone except for on here, and I talk to you guys more than anybody else. Since Condor wasn't able to convince Odyssey that we are good customers and he broke off that arrangement, I just took part of the refund and gave it to Don. It was already there in paypal and in my mind it was already spent, so--- no biggy. Oh, by the way, what was left over is now sitting ready to go to the shop with my forks to get rebuilt---new Progressive springs!!!!!!! Thanks again Don, without you and this site, I don't know where I'd be with this bike! Dan

Don't know if it's anything, just got back from east of Cleveland, when I logged in the first time, the home page opened but I noticed I wasn't logged in. Had to do it again. I will try it later on, Squeeze says I only have 5 minutes at a time allowed to be on here till my bike is done. I've already used 2-1/2 of that checkin' this new space out!!!!! Thanks Don, Dan

If it has not been turned over in a long time (turning the rear tire will not allow you to turn the motor over), remove the spark plugs (thin wall 18mm socket) drop alittle bit of oil into the cylinders. Remove the 5" round chrome cover off of the left side and the little steel plate behind that. Take a 32mm socket on a 1/2" drive ratchet or breaker bar and turn the crank CCW. If the rings are stuck this will help break them loose and then make it easier for the starter to turn it over. This will also be easier on all the rotating parts in there (bearings, races, plastic gears, water pump, oil pump) to resume their normal operation. Just think about yourself sleeping in bed for a long time, and how it is to get moving again!!! Then before installing the plugs and turning on the gas, use the starter to turn the bike over (after changing the oil!) and get the oil flowing back through all the passageways. This will help insure that you don't spin a crank bearing or something like that. Good luck! Dan BTW, whats the VIN # on his bike? We found the 1st one offf the line, like to see where his falls in! 0101 is the first.
