  1. Just short of 60k on my 84. Good to go for another 25 years! Dan
  2. Yes, the connection is behind the headlight. Sorry cannot help you on how to access it with the fairing on. Dan
  3. Same goes for 1st gens, there's a brass collar in the left side case that can get worn quickly, I plan to order one (if I can) to replace it soon, got about 3'8s inch play in it......
  4. HMMMMMM, we could probably use some of that "stress" testing around here--------------
  5. Better order me a large "newbie" Tshirt, then, don't know how the wifes gonna like it, but you gotta do it to get used to it, huh?!?!?!? Secondary RSVP confirmed Dan
  6. That's kinda what I was thinkin'
  7. I would just put the 2nd gen against the wall and ride that Blue Beast ya got sittin' there!!!!!!!------- problem solved!!!!!!! :stirthepot:
  8. When I found out last year coming home from Cincinnatti with 3rd gear the highest I could go, running 65 mph at 5500 rpm was considered "taking it easy on the bike" by several members of this board. I knew then I had found the perfect bike!! :bikersmilie:
  9. Hey Randy and Pegscraper. What takes the most time is lacing the harness back in there correctly. It took me 2 1/2 hrs to get it right there at the left rear frame/gas tank area. EVERYthing has to in there just right for it to fit. I will say it's been fun, it takes a long time to wire wheel all the bolts, nuts and washers on there (yup, every stinkin one of 'em). What a learning experience, though. I now know exactly how the bike is put together, so it'll be easier to diagnose in 20-25 years when it'll need to be done again! See ya down the road, Dan
  10. My thoughts are with the fuel pump. Where did smoke appear from? Were the wires getting hot at the connector when you jumped 12 volts to it? Did you check for the pump running while the motor was running? Concern I have is when you first jumped it and it was going slowly, the possible high amperage that was going through there, evidenced by the wisp of smoke. Could lead to damaged windings in the pump.
  11. Thanks guys, it's almost coming to an end; BUT, for some reason I keep trying to make sure there isn't something I've overlooked. Battery cables just came in from TupperJ, they look great and will be a huge improvement over the standard cables. The only mechanical item I won't have time to tie into is the rear pumpkin, I feel time is just too short. I am going to dump the existing fluid out of it, check for any metal (I know I'll have some) just to make sure nothing radical is going on in there. Replace the fluid, grease up the spline and start putting it back in. I just got done putting the zerk fittings in the shock links, they are ready to go in. Finish the rear end, start putting fluids in the lines for brakes and clutch, tie the handles back for the night, finish bleeding tomorrow night and hopefully "Bare Naked Lady" will make her appearance on the road Saturday for a "break-in" cruise b4 the body work goes back on. Thanks again guys (and gals!) Dan
  12. Here's a couple more of the undressed lady. BTW, just thought last nite, does anybody think of any assembled or unassembled (like the rear end, which is the only thing undone) areas that we need pics of b4 I start puttin the dressin' back on this weekend?
  13. Just throwing this out there, if the fuel pump is not running (just a spurt, that was it-quote), you might check the lead for the fuel pump. The connector is hidden between the left rear frame and in front of the gas tank where the Rectifier/Regulator wires run. It is squeezed in behind 2 other cables, pull those out of the way ( there is a cable clamp there, pull it off). The connector is a translucent plastic with a blue and a black wire running through it. BTW, the other connector is the kickstand connection.
  14. Finally, after 4 months of on again, off again work, got the exhaust finished up, put the new AGM sealed battery in, pulled the plugs (put a couple of squirts of oil in each cylinder just for the rings), disconnected the coils and the fuel pump, cranked it over freely for a minute or two to get the oil all distributed again and fill the filter. Put the plugs in, connected the coils and fuel pump, put some gas in her, turned the key on, set the choke, hit the button, 3 revolutions later,,,,,SHE FIRED RIGHT UP!!!!!!!!! Little rough, but need to resynch the carbs, run some seafoam thru her, put some premium in the tank. So far, everything is fine. Won't get a chance to check the gears, etc. till I get the rear end, tire and brakes on it. Just got 5 of the six bushings in I need for the rear shock link setup. Gonna start on that right now. I AM SO FREAKIN' HAPPY RIGHT NOW, CAN'T YOU TELL! :dancefool: Hope to have her back on the road by this weekend sometime. Dan
  15. Brain farts--- finally fired the bike up tonite(!!!!!!!!!!), noticed battery and a fluid light was on. Was checking the oil level, voltage at the battery, the famous white wires, ALL that good stuff. Pulled out the manual, went to the right chapter, started reading, then looked at the icon descriptions-----:bang head::bang head:----- fluid light was for the hydraulic fluids which I have not put in yet, and the battery light was cause I just installed a new sealed AGM battery without the lead!!!!!!!!! How many times in the past few weeks have we gone over this in the forums?!?!?!?!?!? How many times did I read those posts?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I'm just glad she started right up after sittin' on the bench for the last 4 months!!!!!!! Dan (Big Dummy!)
  16. Throw me a call when you're in the area , Strat, dinners on me. And we can put to rest the rumours about your existence!!!! Dan
  17. Pump will run for 5 seconds without a spark signal return to the TCI. The pump should squirt across the room for that 5 seconds IF it's getting fuel thru the petcock then through the filter. Make sure your filter is installed in the correct direction, before reinstalling I would hold the open end over a can, turn on the petcock valve (I know, you need 2 people for this and a pair of pliers!) and check flow thru the filter. If this is good, reconnect to fuel line to pump, turn key on and check flow, making sure there is not a kink or tight bend in the line up to the carbs. DOn't know what the pressure is supposed to be, but I know it's a diaphragm type pump and not a rotary (like the water pump), so it may be high volume, low pressure. Therefore, a kink in the line may stop the flow. How long is the pump running when you get the squirt? As b4, should be at least 5 seconds. Hope this helps Dan
  18. I've got the ME880's on mine, front and back. Did pretty good last year, but that was with worn out head bearings and the bushings in the rear shock link, rubber engine mounts shot, etc. Once I get her out on the road with these issues over and done with, I'll let you know. Dan
