Nah, as Mike figured out, that's from last fall and is in the calender. Scoots almost done, putting the fairing on her right now, do the stereo and the rest of the electronics. Wifes OK with it, she knew the would be no piece(!) if I didn't have peace to work on the bike. The people getting pissed are my my side work customers!!!! Ain't touched any of it in the last couple of weeks. Kinda' enjoy it. Took the bike out Sunday morning, naked of course. Ran it a little to check the gears and get it warmed up. SYnched the carbs went out again,,,, all I can say is--they better replace some asphalt along that road cause I burnt her up real good!!! Runs like a bat-out-of-h*ll and very smooth thru the gears. Still looks the same, will do major redecorating next year. Gonna be at Dons this weekend. Thanks, Dan

On a more serious note, I had planned on showing how to do a valve adjustment on my bike, as the gaskets are fresh and I know it won't leak after putting her back together. Just a quick run through on how to use the tool and feeler gauges, how to remove and replace a shim and recheck. I knew I didn't want to take all day, as I got cheesecake to eat!!!!!! Thanks for the reminder, though, as I'm sure that we can become consumed by this stuff. Dan

Come on Squeeze, can't you tell that his framberlitz is on the rise and the doomaflotchy thingy is mis-combobulated and the hair dryer quit working this morning??????

Don't forget the mouse nest you're gonna find!!! Next door neighbor bought an 87 Grand National, mice had eaten almost every wire under the hood!!!!!

Mine was a project, that one needs a carwash!!!! Let us know if you need some help, has it been turned over recently or in the past couple years? If not, I'd be carefull of just stickin a battery in there and cranking it over without an oil change, pulling the plugs and putting a couple squirts of oil in there and then cranking it over by hand a couple of times to get things moving. Good luck!!! Dan

Are the coils plugged into the right connector????????? Trying to find the right schematic to let you know. OOps, dinner time. -
No problem GW, that's why I've got all this useless information in my head. Anything I can help you with, don't hesitate to ask. Dan

Well, at least you're breaking her in on the RIGHT bike!!! She could never get used to that sssslllloooowwww feeling you get on a 2nd gen!!!!!!!! :stirthepot:

GW, start on the left side, hook your tubes up 1-4. 1 is left rear, 2 is left front, 3 is right rear, 4 is right front. Hook them into the ports right under the carbs on the intake boots. Balance 1 & 2 first, with the straight slotted screw directly above the cross bar (single screw) where the drain tubes come out. Then go to the right side and set the balance between 3 & 4 with the screw on the left (Screw "B"). After this, set the balance between # 2 & 4 by adjusting the screw on the right (Screw "C"). You probably will have to reset the idle by adjusting the thumb screw which is located under the cross bar on the left side (screw is vertical, right behind and underneath the bracket) down to 1000 rpm. Screws B & C are on the right side, Screw "A" and idle screw is on the left. You may have to do this a couple times as you adjust your idle speed. Manual also states that valve adjustment should be done before doing this procedure, but it certainly wouldn't hurt!!!! Good luck, Dan

So we gonna see you there then Yammer? Hope so, look forward to meetin you face to face! Dan

Sounds like you have some "Post traumatic Stress Syndrome" goin' on there, Dan. Me thinks you need another project to help work out all that anxiety you've got built up from all the work the warden is makin' you do. Keeps you from gettin' those bikes runnin'!!!!! I told my "warden" a couple of weeks ago that nothin' was gettin done till the bike was done and Maintenance Day was over!!! Looks like my vacations almost over!?!?!?!?!? Dan

nice Job on chasing down the other Guy, but whas it necessary to state how easy those 2Gens are to take down ?? (Only used 1st gear!!!!!) are you gonna polish those ugly "yellow" valve covers, before you put all the "clothes" back on her? lol:confused24::whistling:: whistling: (Would have done that when I had the motor out and the covers off, didn't have time this year, next winters project to clean and repaint everything!!!!) Naked pictures!!! Now we are getting somewhere!! (I knew you'd like that one, Dan!!) BTW, after synching her up, that's after we found one of the YICS nipple (there ya go, Dan!) plugs off and fixing that, what a difference!!! Remember, I redid all the exhaust shims cause they were out of tolerance. Man, will she light up the sky now!!! Gotta be carefull of that back tire on take-off now!!!! One test was 95 in third at 6500 rpm!!! And that was within the length of a football field AND takin' it somewhat easy!!! -
Soooo, when is the vest being made??????
-
I want to do the colortune and re-synch. Just synched em today, but that's for the trip up. Workin' on getting the plastic back on. I think I covered everything else while I had it tore apart. I'm bringing the valve shim kit with me (BuddyRich's) to show folks how to do the valve adjustment. Hope Don has a 30mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet!!!!! These things are soooo easy to work on, but I did my valve adjustment on the bench!!! Thanks Goose, Dan

After 5 hours of brake bleeding, battery cable change-outs, etc. last night---ending at 2am, got up this morning, looked her over and went "Self-it's time to see what she's got". First thing I learned that without a windshield, you gots to have a helmet on!!!!! Had to take my glasses off because of the wind, but at 65 you still can't see!!!! Got the helmet, took off around the corner, got in the straights, and lit it up!!!!!!! Absolutely smooth thru the power, only took it up to 6k on the tach for right now, NO problems with several hard runs thru 2nd gear, extremely smooth ride up to 85 mph. Gonna have my neighbor check the synch, then start putting her clothes back on!!!! BTW, sitting in my neighbors driveway, what rode by but a beautiful new Black Cherry RSV!!!!! Chased him down (didn't take long). Come to find out, he's always ridden a Venture (84, 87, 89 and a 99)!!! He didn't know about the website, so look for another Central In. rider to appear on here!!!!!! Time to get back to work!!!! Dan

I feel more relaxed already!!!! Dan

Well, I should be joining you also today, Don. FINALLY got all the brakes bled, cables changed and all the little neccesities that make it "roadable". Test ride scheduled for this morning after another look-see to make sure I didn't miss anything. Glad you finally got your therapy in. Dan

Found what we were looking for, it's a 5/8ths cap that taps right into the hole. I'm thinkin a little silicone around the ring, pop it in and your screw heads are nice and sealed up. Any hardware store should have them. Button caps, I think they're called.
