transmission problem
Dano replied to chas m's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Oh no, the dreaded 2nd gear rises again!! Depending on your mechanical aptitude, it's an easy fix but you gotta pull the motor. If you can pull the motor, you can fix the tranny. Do what George said and check the threads, I've got one on there, just did mine. Dan BTW, don't forget to ask questions!!! -
Can't stop laughing, nor get that visual of Dan & Brad out of my head!!!!!!!!!

SO that's why you went to the slower RSV, huh?!?!?!?!? :stirthepot: DAN

New Fork Brace
Dano replied to lonestarmedic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Same thing I did, everything was loose but it just wouldn't go in. Just had the forks rebuilt with new sliders, bushings, springs. Didn't want to screw anything up!! Dan -
BTW, at Maintenance Day we made an executive decision. These braces from now on will be referred to as "CONDORBRACES" to eliminate any cornfusion!!!!!!!! Thanks again Condor, it worked great on my bike, too!! Dan

And where's the best place to get them?
-
Tell Dale in his semi-groggy state that you are going out to get a new bike, you just can't wait for him to get better! There's riding to do and rallys to go to! Seriously, hope his recovery goes well and I'm just glad it wasn't any worse. It was nice to have met you 2 over the weekend. Dan

Thanks goes from Rose and I to Eileen for making her feel at home with this group of guys all around. My wife thoroughly enjoyed herself. Know what you mean about the haircut, last one that cut my hair got 3" off my ponytail. Not as fortunate as you on the top of the head, so it hurts when they take it off the back!! Dan

Thankfully we sit on high ground here, but seeing some of the fields the other day when I went down to Franklin, In., if I was even close to a flood plain I would have bought it. We checked county records when we bought and we weren't even close to a 100 year flood. But I do carry earthquake ins.! Only 150 miles from "Earthquake Alley" down in SE Illinois.... already had 2 this year we could feel up here..... Hopefully this weather will settle down soon. Dan

Nah, I figured you knew where I stuck the stuff I got off of ebay last year! Or did you sell it to Eck along with the carbtune?!?!?! Dan

Jumps out of 2nd gear
Dano replied to blueblood's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I just put in the solid Delrin mounts from Blue Mountain (one of our sponsors, see link in the banner at the top of the page), can't really tell any difference in vibration, but I'll tell you this. This bike has never handled better, especially in the wind we rode in on Friday and partly on Sunday. Even with the head bearings working loose (brand new, ya gotta adjust them a couple of times), it never wobbled once due to the wind or the road. I can really feel a difference in the stiffness of the frame. Well worth it. Dan -
Jumps out of 2nd gear
Dano replied to blueblood's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yep, just re-route the harness to on top of the air box and strap it down there. Take it apart and bake it in the oven for an hour and a half I think at about 110d F. Theres a thread on it, I'm probably totally wrong here, but I know you put it in the oven!!!!! Dan -
Missing Hazard switch?
Dano replied to woz111's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
If it came from America, it should be on there. Is there a hole for it on the right side fairing screen piece that sits inside the fairing? You know, the spider web? I think I have a pic of it when I took some shots of my spkr plug, I'll try to upload tonight. Dan BTW, not to hijack, just wanted to let Squeeze know that we blew about 15 Hardleys away SUnday. We were following them for about 5 miles when the Navigator told me she was tired of listening to them. Was in 5th at 3500 rpm, got a full right hand of throttle twist goin', by the time I passed the leader we were well over 85 & still climbing! It was fun!! Dan -
I guess that we all make our own determination, I will keep an eye on mine for now, I don't think we will ever find a tire that is gonna be best for all of us.

Jumps out of 2nd gear

If I were you, I'd take a break and take that red '68 in the background out for a spin!!!! Helps to clear the mind about what's going on!! Those thrust washer clips look about like mine, almost chewed through. Looks like you haven't been too easy on those dogs, either!! You'll love it when shes done! Dan -
Maybe you can find my missing CB and fairing inserts while you're at it, too, Squidley!! Dan
-
Sorry ,my bad, must have had something else float thru the brain at that time. I was just relaying that which he had said about the inflation. Dan

The plug will be located to the right of the instrument cluster, coming out with the right speaker wiring. If it's not there, it's probably just fallen down a little bit. You should be able to remove the headlight and get to it. Dan -
Congratulations, now she can help support you riding addiction! Dan
