You guys are NOT doing enuff riding!!!!!!!
-
I paid 600 for my 84standard in Oct. 06. Just put 1200+ change in rebuilding her from front to back, including 2nd gear, all orings and seals in the motor, etc. Pretty much if it could be rebuilt or replaced, it was. The only thing I didn't have time to do was the final drive. Year old tires (500) and miscellaneous (600-Road Sofa seat) stuff. I'm sure I could get what I invested & most of my labor back out of it if I was to sell it. BUT WHY WOULD I!!!!!!!!!

Just for info-wife and I booked a double, willing to split it with someone. Dan
-
Nah, Gig would never do that!
-
I'm gonna try to make it up to Squids, so I'll catch you guys on the next go-round. Dan
-
HMMMMM, and Squid tells ME to be nice!!!! Dan

If you're on Maui, check out Island Riders if they're still there. We rented a 95 Heritage softail when we were there in 96, great bike for checkin' out the coastline. Wouldn't want to do it in a cage!! Dan
-
Yeah Dan, but since it's soooooo long since you been on a bike, doesn't that qualify just as practice so you can remember how to get her back up????!!!!
-
We missed ya'. Can't figure out how you're in two places at once, though. I was sure we saw you in Columbus at the M&E this past Saturday!!!! Dan
-
I too took a young on a trip today, albeit just around the country "block". My little buddy Nathan from Columbus, Ohio was in town so his Grammy and brother could go to the "YellowFlag" 400. It was his first ride on a bike and he loved it.

Nope, not the thermostat housing, but you will have to remove the water pump or the thermostat to replace it. It feeds the pump from the thermostat. Look it up at www.flatoutmotorcycles.com under the parts finder, water pump section. Great prices, tell them you're with Venturerider when you order. It's quite a common occurence when the bike is dropped. Dan

115 mph and room to go further...

Better give those tires a bit of time to scrub in, or you'll be on yer butt in a heartbeat!! Dan -
And they wanted new Hummers for Iraq? We already gottem'! Send that sucker over there, bet it'll come thru with flying colors. Can't let my wife see that other stuff on there, tho. Won't have any M&E $$ left. Dan

All my vehicles have a frame hitch, and I leave in the tongue and ball. Left a nice ball and imprint on one young gentlemans front plastic bumper one day!!! Matter of fact, and this is nothing against LEO's, I was coming back from Dallas one time in the 90's, the back way up through Muscogie(?), LEO's all around this town and one pulled me over. After the usual questions (whadya doin', been drinkin'(25mph crosswind-van with a box trailer, you get the idea)), he walks around back of the van to look in the back, and BLAM, there goes his knee into the hitch!! Had to laugh, so did he, told me to go on, he was goin home to soak his bruised knee!! I also watch behind me at lights, ready to go anytime. Dan

Thanks for the reply, Orrin. Hope he posts when he gets home tonite to make sure he's OK. Oh, you forgot the #1 rule Where are the pics!!!! Dan

That is correct Igya. It's really not hard to fix, and it allows you to see how the mechanics of the motor & tranny interchange and allows you to learn more about how these fine beasts operate. When I did mine, it allowed me to repair/check/replace numerous o-rings, seals, gaskets, water pump etc. that really needed to be done while I had it out. After it was done and back together, the feeling of having a virtually "bullet-proof" bike under my seat is very exhilerating. I don't worry anymore about jumping on it- literally and figuratively (that spelling s**ks!) anytime I want, and go anywhere I want. Good luck with your bike, Dan

You sure Yammer Dan don't need it more, Condor? With as many bikes as he's tryin' to get running, he can use all the help he can get!!!!!! Dan

Been there, done that, still tryin' to design the t-shirt!!

I think in an earlier post, he said it was before the cutoff #. They replaced the thrust washer and split clip with harder metal. Not sure if they changed parameters of 2nd/5th gear interchange any (deeper engagement).

What happened to the fireman???? Haven't heard anything??????

I have a posting in here about how I did my gears. Used a drill press vise with changeable angle and a 1/4" dremel grind tip in my drill press. Using the vise allows you to duplicate the same angle on the dogs of the 5th gear and the slots on the 2nd gear. On inspecting the clip itself, when you look at the end of the driven shaft (behind left rear cover) you will see the split clip that goes into the groove of the shaft holding everything in. The metal they made this out of was too soft, and wears down, allowing the shaft to move towards the clutch. You can then tell how much it's worn by looking right at the groove and seeing shiny metal. Only a fraction of an inch will allow the dogs on the 5th gear to move away from the slots on 2nd gear, letting them slip out of the slots and "ratchet" around to the next slot under load. Here's a couple of pics from my repair. Dan

I think you got that one right, Condor. The 83's were the quickest out of the factory, 84 &85's the next quickest. CC's don't necessarily mean more power (350 small block versus standard 400 big block). Many items including cams, valve size, carburetion, TCI control, boost sensor operation all contribute to the effort. Also, maybe not so much, is weight difference. MK1's have smaller bags, albeit not much, but can make a difference. 100 pounds on a car is worth a 1/10 of a second on the track. I'm sure our resident techie Squeeze, will jump in here and 'splain the difference. Dan BTW, not bustin' your chops on this, Igya, just havin' some fun (OK Brad, I'm tryin'!!!). But I do know that you are able to tell the difference.

Glad to have you Erik, you earned some MAJOR brownie points with the M-in-law yesterday!!!!! Either that, or she thinks that you are REALLY sick now!!! Dan
