I knew these bikes were made for this!!!! And the guys wanted to keep me from takin' my bike on the MX track when we went by Redbud last weekend!!!! Rode thru one of those "deep water" areas after a storm on July 4th. What a blast!!!! I was more concerned with my daughters Sebring behind us! Great pics, was in Palo Duro about 13 years ago. Great place to visit!! Should have taken him up to the Canadian River bed to do some moto-cross!! Dan

Boost/Pressure sensor
Dano replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Yes, sir. (BTW--Go Ferrari, Massa, that is!) Being curious and maybe funny at the same time, did you suck on it? Yanno, to pull the vacuum? I don't believe I'm gonna touch that one, either!!!! I go to my boys ballgames all afternoon, and LOOK what happens!!!! A new one is about $350.00!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Earl Only $279.95 at Flatout!!!!! Appreciate all the comments, got my carbs out today to put new gaskets in my "Twinkie", I'm pulling the plug out and doing a check on the unit tonite. Also found a chunk out of the top of one of the intake boots that could have been leaking, possibly causing part of my low-rpm, high load backfiring and hesitating that I've been experiencing. Sounds like others are having the same problem. Dan- 25 replies

When I come on here, it is to share time with my passion and relaxation method of choice and share those experiences with my FRIENDS. I can have all the political and social dialogues with plenty of people around my community, as I have been involved with our local government as a concerned citizen and community-involved person for some time. This is a life-style community we have here on this site, with a very large and diverse population. We all have our opinions and are entitled to them. We all just need to realize that maybe this isn't the place to express some of them. I would rather inflame somebody (Skinny Squidley style) by razzin' them about their slower 2nd gen or even MKII's, which we all know is just in jest, than by bringing my personal opinions on here about our socio-political shortcomings. Sometimes I also type replies, then delete them before posting, as it came over me that this is NOT the forum for that. Conversation is one thing, demeaning opinions are another. I, for one, will exercise EXTREME caution on my posts and replies to make sure of not crossing that line. Perhaps we all can, and then enjoy some Ice Cream together someday!!!!! Boost/Pressure sensor
Dano replied to Dano's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
With bike running and warm, pull the little tube coming off of Carb#2 (front left) and apply a little suction to the tube. Should hear a difference in the motor, as this changes timing electronically. You could probably do an electronics test on it also, but this should be easiest. The unit is located under the TCI, you can reach it by following the tube up to the unit. Dan- 25 replies

If you run your main power thru the relay, you cannot drain the battery thru the horn. I believe stock wiring has a hot going to the horn and they are switching the ground. If the coil in the horn is going bad, it can leak current to ground enuff to drain the battery but not enuff to "honk" the horn. I switched the 30 & 87 leads, because on DC voltage, there is a large arc when you break contacts, this arrangement will help lessen that effect (years of doing motor controls taught me that). Another thought, and this goes to theory that maybe GeorgeS or some of the other "thinkheads" can add to. With a hot going to the coil constantly, but no ground connection, is it possible that coil saturation is happening and draining power? My thinking says no, but anything is possible. Another way to check is to wire a small DC ammeter (maybe 10 amp?) in series with the battery (do NOT start bike with ammeter in circuit, could blow!). If there is current showing on the meter with the key off, start removing fuses till you find the circuit that the current is flowing through. Check this circuit for bare wires, bad coils or anything else that is pulling power.

Would've been nice to be on that ride! What a tribute.

I knew there was a reason he came up with the kits for the MK2's!!!!

All the 83 frame needs is a couple of braces and a little re-weld in the area.......

Doubt it though!!!!!!

I bet it pulls wheelies easy, tho.

They put a slow VDub in the rear? Why would you slow down? Appreciate the engineering, but I would have left the V4 in there.

Looks like HD insignia on the tank, tho. Dan

Tach Question
Dano replied to scott_sinky's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Scott, you could have a bad ground going onhere. There are 3 main grounds on the bike. THe main ground is right front on the engine (big heavy cable going up the right front frame tube. Second is on the left side of the bike under the fairing for the TCI box. 3rd is behind the light bucket for the instrument cluster, I believe. Make sure your battery terminals are clean, battery charged up. THese bikes will run like cr*p if the voltage is low. Dan -
Great stories and pics, Bob. Careful out there and enjoy it, you can always ask forgiveness when you get home!! Just think, no internet, no cell phone = no B*****ING!!!! Dan

What are you alluding to, Jay????? You know my motto is "have angle will weld"!!!!! I've actually been mulling over the idea of building my own hitch and rack. Cotton pickin' MK1's don't have a lot of storage on 'em for those weekend trips!!!! Dan

I still like the "8 ball" scenario, Brad. Put the Obert's down for 50 bucks towards your goal, will send it in a couple weeks when I get this remodel ruffed in. I personally think that 3 large is a little low for our fine group, I bet we beat it by a couple K. At least that's what I'm hoping for!!!!! Hmmmm, Ol'Ratso of the Toecutters MC here. Better watch it or I'll have to trim your toenails REAL close!!!!!

You beat me to it! Good job.

I think I have the same problem with my 84, except my right channel doesn't work. If you take the plugs out of the box and hook them straight to the unit, works fine. Almost like they're not making full contact. Sometimes I'll hit a bump and it'll work for a while....... Dan

symptoms of a stator going bad?
Dano replied to bobcat's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Pull the left side cover, just along the curve of the frame is a big white plug with 3 big white wires, take the straps loose and pull it out. Best thing to do is cut off the plugs and solder the wires together. Dan -
Ahhhhh, it's too bad THAT hasn't happened yet!!!!

I have a solution for the future----- buy a 1st gen and don't worry about getting "shot" by the radar, laser, lidar. I have been pegged with all 3, as recently as last Friday. All were single vehicle (me) no one else around. All 3 times the LEO's just look at their display, look at me and start shrugging their shoulders. 1st gen has no flat vertical surfaces, all plastic (don't know if that matters). Truly the 1st "stealth" vehicle available to the public! And just think of the billions they spent developing the stealth fighter & bomber!!! Seriously, even heading towards one of those school-zone "Your speed is...." radar trailers, at a consistent 25 mph, the display is going anywhere from 15 up to 39, with no other vehicles around! Anybody else with a 1st gen have the same experience?? Curious:detective: Dan
